Yep it's part of the trilogy which also includes Lirael and Abhorsen. It's the first book. A decent read but not as good as his Keys to the Kingdom series.

Oh, good to know. I just picked it up one day because it was pretty inexpensive and he was an author I had been meaning to read.

Yeah that's her! I got Clan of the Cave Bear. What do you think of the rest of them?

Sorry to take so long to answer, but I've been offline for 2 weeks. Computer problems, phone problems, etc.

The rest of the series is not bad, but as I said Clan of the Cave Bear was the best. She hasn't finished the series yet. There's supposed to be one more book coming out.

OOH I do envy you on the Machen works mate, very nice get indeed...:D

Borribles is a bit of a classic and influenced Mieville, so I'm a little amazed someone with your obvious breadth of SFF knoweldge hasn't tried it yet unless you're referring to that particular edition LOL!

Recently ordered a 1950 edition of Mervyn Peake's The Glassblowers .

These are the first copies I have had of it.

I had heard of it, and seen it mentioned ,but just never picked them up and read them (hence why I never mention them). I had only heard of them in recent years actually, during timws when I never buy a older book (25 year or back or something tgat has some vintage quality to it) without looking for the first edition first. I decided to cheat this time and buy the mdoenr collected edition and just the first edition of the first book. I was reminded of it recently by Brys, and decided to cop it. Looking forward to getting to it perhaps sometime next month.

Not that I'm an addict or anything, but I just had to get more books this weekend. I've got to stop visiting Chapters and Starbucks  .
Picked up the Belgariad Omnibus Volume 2, Nightlife, and the Last Light of the Sun (Guy Gavriel Kay).

I have a friend who runs an independent bookshop and quite often assist in consulting on an informal basis about notable items he may wish to include in his SFF collection from numerous boxes of books that come his way. Now just today he was showing me a box of goodies that inlcuded a book by Fletcher Pratt (of the classic L Sprague De Camp and Pratt collaboration The Compleat Enchanter series and Masterwork book Well Of The Unicorn) which I happily received free of charge. Not one of his better known books I'm guessing but I've not read this SF book and so for me it's a treasure to explore.....:D

Invaders From Rigel - Fletcher Pratt

The Magical Worlds of Philip Pullman by David Colbert
Time Dancers by Steve Cash
The Shining City by Kate Forsyth
To Serve and Submit by Susan Wright
Treasure Forest by Cat Bordhi
A Shadow in Summer by Daniel Abraham (which I posted my review of yesterday)
Once Upon an Autumn Eve by Dennis L. Mckiernan
Red Lightning by John Varley

Karavan by Jennifer Roberson
Giants' Dance by Robert Carter
The Borgia Bride by Jennifer Kalogridis

I got this rather interesting anthology today, and while I generally like to journey into stories unknown to me this one, Novel Ideas, edited by Brian Thomson, offers a nice group of 7 stories that led to definitive SF works, and includes, Lady in the Tower which inspired The Rowan by Anne Mccaffery, Air Raid whic inspired Millenium by Jon Varley , Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card, Firewatch, which inspired To Say Nothing of the Dog , All Clear and Doomsday Book by Connie Willis, The Postman by David Brin, and Beggars in Spain by Nancy Kress.

It highlights author's ashor stories that later became landmark novels. Good stuff.
