Book Hauls!

I've just had a birthday and as a result hauled more books.
Ursula le Guin's 'Earthsea' books;
Anita Desai's 'In Custody' which I had heard so much about for so long, and I've had on my wish list for ages and now I can finally read!
G.K. Chesterton's 'The Man Who Knew Too Much', which was the last remaining Chesterton mystery or drama for me. Now Chesterton will be done, and I will have to move on.:(

My latest couple of trips netted the following:

The Faded Sun Trilogy by C. J. Cherryh
Pandora’s Star by Peter F. Hamilton
Slow River by Nicola Griffith
The Rise of Endymion by Dan Simmons
Furious Gulf and Sailing Bright Eternity by Gregory Benford

Throne of Jade by Naomi Novik
Black Powder War by Naomi Novik
Proven Gulity by Jim Butcher
Bridge of Dreams by Chaz Brenchley
Icarus by Roger Levy
Tall Dark and Dead by Tate Hallaway

So which books have you recently spent your hard earned cash or pocket money on :)

What little gems couldnt you resist and ended up on your bookshelf:D

I have to be careful with my pennies these days so the only books that get onto my bookshelves (yep got more than one) now are my favourite authors works.

There was a special offer on (last week) at the book club I am a member of and I've sent for -

Sabriel, Lirael and Abhorsen by Garth Nix
Grass for his Pillow and Brilliance of the Moon by Lian Hearn

Havent' got them yet but eagerly awaiting them :D

I recently bought all of mark robsons work: the dark weaver legacy and the start of the imperial series, and also i bought sabriel, lirael and abhorsen by garth nix aswell,:p

I have finally bought GRR Martin's Game of Thrones and King Rat - China Mieville. I guess as the rest of you all seem to be reading these guys, I ought to make the effort some time soon.

Pretty soon we'll be putting you onto Gene Wolfe too if you haven't tried him yet either..:D

Well you are converting them, left, right and centre!:D

Just picked up a copy of Ancient Sorceries and Other Stories by Algernon Blackwood.

I imagine it will be a completely different style than what I am used to, leaning more to the psychic detectives, Cat People - fear and tensions, tales of horror...

I like getting books for free. Justin Holt sends me his book called Payday. Not that anyone of you have ever heard of Justin...

I just got this anthology entitled Mythic, edited by Mike Allen, that I was really interested in reading after seeing the talent assembled participating in it in some press releases. It features work by Catherynne M. Valente, Ian Watson, Matthew Cheney who is one of the truly outsanding souces of opionion on fantasy, so I'm interested in seeing his fiction), Theodora Goss, Joe Hadleman, Sonya Taffe among others.

Great news;)

Mind you, I found King Rat to be weaker than either Perdido Street Station or The Scar... but a bit better than Iron Council:)

Sabriel & Lirael by Garth Nix (I already have Abhorsen)
Judge Dredd: The Complete Case Files
Lenore Noogies by Roman Dirge

xx

WOOHOOO!! now got my hands on a copy of George RR Martin's 1974 Vampiric tale about romance and horror in 1857 on the Mississippi river Fevre Dream (also part of Masterwork series). The cover by Bantam is absoultely beautiful to boot!.....:D

Won this as part of the Chronicles recent book competition.....:)

I got quite a lot today - most of it with speculative fiction elements, but those which are placed in the general fiction section. Some highlights include:
King Rat by China Mieville
The Thousandfold Thought by R Scott Bakker
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon
Life of Pi by Yann Martel
Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy
Blindness by Jose Saramago

Hey, that's terrific Kye. Love to read Raymond Feist's books myself !

Two books arrived in the mail today (from entirely different sources): The Alchemist's Daughter by Eileen Kernaghan, and a signed copy of Crown of Stars by Kate Elliott.
