Lud-in-the-Mist by Hope Mirrlees. This actually completes my collection of the 50 Fantasy Masterwork novels (older covers). I remember I used to see these everywhere in the secondhand bookshops, unfortunately by the time I started collecting them that was well past and most of these have been bought online.

And this one (The Forever War by Joe Haldeman) means I now have just one single hardcover to find and I will have completed my collection of SF, Fantasy and Crime Masterworks. Now I just need to finish reading them.

I've always wanted to read Lud-in-the-Mist but I've never found a copy... Let us know if it's any good, once you get around to it, please?

Will do, I'm just finishing up another story then plan on reading this next, Was going to put it on the shelf but being the last one it felt right to read it first (I'm way behind on reading the Fantasy and Crime Masterworks).

Lud-in-the-Mist is superb. Completely one off.

The cover of that vampire anthology needs a closer lookView attachment 119307
Looks like a kiddie drawing of a Pterodactyl "kidnapping" a ghost or possibly someone in a nightdress, probably for munchies at some later date. At least it's interesting and different and unique to that book (one hopes).

May we see the table of contents please? I would love to know what stories are in that book.

Edit: I have the memory of a Swiss Cheese that the mice have been nibbling at. I forgot the title was Vampire stories, so then the "pterodactyl" would be a funny looking vampire bat? And the "ghost" would be future snack in a nightdress. It's still a much better cover graphic than half the new books on the market.

That would be Edward Gorey.

The contents list is quite good: Penguin Book of Vampire Stories

I really should finish off the stories I haven't read, but it's kind of enjoyable knowing there's still a few waiting for me.

Thank you. That really is a nice selection of stories. Now I want the book. I don't recognize the titles to about 2/3 of the stories. And I like my vampires to be non-sparkly and vaguely demonic, not cuddly and moody.
