Thanks Mithfanion, I didn't know A Sword From Red Ice was available yet. So, thanks to your post I just ordered:

A Sword From Red Ice by J. V. Jones
Reader and Raelynx by Sharon Shinn (latest book in her 13 Houses series)

Is the [SIZE=-1]Sword of Shadows series any good, Murphy/Mithfanion?
I've only read The Barbed Coil by JVJ, and thought it wasn't bad, but that the end was a bit abrupt.....

I've found it very engrossing so far. An epic fantasy with lots of blood and gore and pretty well written. Maybe not on a part with Eriksona and GRRM, but I liked it better than Bakker.

edit: Maybe not that much blood and gore.

Thanks, Murphy - one more to go on my "to read" list.......:D

Wow! My post was sure full of errors.

The Sword of Shadows is a trilogy, so you will have to add three books to your list:
A Cavern of Black Ice
A Fortress of Grey Ice
A Sword from Red Ice

:D

I come, once again, to sing the praises of the library book sale. This afternoon I picked up the following books:

Faerie Tale - Raymond E. Feist (I've been looking for a copy of this for just about ever)
The Third Secret - Steve Berry (likely to be somewhere in Da Vinci Code territory, which is where this writer usually goes)
Interview with the Vampire - Anne Rice (replacement copy)
Son of Avonar - Carol Berg
Guardians of the Keep - Carol Berg (this and the previous are the first two volumes of a series)
Day of Atonement - Faye Kellerman (part of the Peter Decker/Rina Lazarus series of police procedural/mystery novels)
The Chosen - Chaim Potok (replacement copy - very good mainstream novel)
The Word - Irving Wallace (goes to Da Vinci Code territory long before Dan Brown ever thought of going there...first published in 1972)
Icy Sparks - Gwyn Hyman Rubio (mainstream fiction)
The Last Guardian - Shane Johnson (apparently "Christian fiction", which I don't usually read, but it looked to be a good story)
Crime Beat - Michael Connelly (the only non-fiction title in the haul)

Total for all 11 books? $7. :D

My most recent moment of weakness was for the Serenity Companion and the two volumes of the Firefly Companion. I'm a big fan of Joss Whedon's work, especially Firefly/Serenity, so when I spotted them in Waterstones recently I just had to have them... and then walked home because I'd spent my bus fare. :D

Hello guys, ran into a nice little bookshop yesterday, lots of graphic novels and SF&F. They had all the Neil Gaiman's Sandman volumes, but of cause as they say, their can't be too much of good thing, so obviously Endless Nights (the 11th and last volume) was missing . Also got The House of Chains, Midnight Tides I've read the first three Malazaan books and had been eargerly looking forwards to getting my hands on these two babies. Can't say I'm not happy with this haul:D. Anyway here's the list:

Preludes and Nocturnes, by Neil Gaiman
The Doll's House
Dream Country
Season of Mists
A Game of You
Fables and Reflections
Brief Lives
World's End
The Kindly Ones
The Wake
The House of Chains, Steven Erikson
Midnight Tides

Nice haul DT, especially the Erikson novels. I've got the complete Sandman series and plenty of other completed series are available from Minotaurs in Melbourne. It's a shame you can't fly over here, you'ld love it!!....:D

Murphy is right, JV Jones curent series is excellent EPIC fantasy....:)
