Book Hauls!

Thanks Gollum. Silk is a sensational book and it was well worth the money, I have lent it to about 5 different people now, who have all loved it, however I brought another one of Barrico's books which was only 82 pages long and cost just as much. In that case I think they may have just been cashing in on a reputation already founded......

I've also read a couple of other small novels like Reef and The Ice Queen which were equally expensive. I expect to pay more when the book is large. Still I guess I shouldn't complain, it is after all my choice if I buy it or not.

Well as I said it's the production quality rather than size that can be a determining factor for these kinds of things.

Today I picked up....

The Stormcaller - Tom Lloyd *This book has received strong reviews so I thought I would check it out.
Hunter's Run - Gerorge RR Martin, Gardiner Dozios and Daniel Abraham *Anything involving GRRM I'm going to read.

There was just a knock at my door "Package for Miss Hoopy Frood" (OK, they didn't say that, they said my real name :D) and I was handed a big fat parcel, woop! It's my hardback version of English Renaissance Drama for my course. It's a very purdy book.

OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD! *Major spasm of joy* I've just looked at the contents list and it has DOCTOR FAUSTUS in it by Christopher Marlowe! That's one of my favourite plays ever!! I am stupidly happy. :D:D

Today the post brought...

The Last Continet - New Tales Of Zothique. *This limited HB edition of 500 copies (I have copy 476) has the signatures of all 20 contributing authors inlcuding Gene Wolfe. I'm very happy with this buy!!

I just bought The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss, The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch, and Myrren's Gift by Fiona McIntosh

I keep telling myself not to buy anymore books... never works :p

I know what you mean :)

Just bought the Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe, 1st book club edition. I can justify it this way: I had borrowed the book from the library but someone has requested it and I have to return it. Clearly I had no choice and had to go and buy it, at least that's I justify it to my significant other :D

Sounds like a good enough reason to me... beats my usual excuse "the book wanted me to buy it" :p

I don't know, but when books look at you with big puppy eyes and beg you to buy them, how can you bear to turn them down. :D

The Religion -- Tim Willocks
Running Blind -- Lee Child
Natural Ordermage --L. E. Modesitt, Jr.

Ok, I'm unsubscribing to this thread right now, and I won't buy any more books until I'm down to at least 10 books left on my TBR pile. Honest to God.

Oh, I've tried that -- no more books for Hoopy! Lasted about three days, then I went into my favourite second hand book shop and I was doomed. I've finally admitted that it's an addiction, I'll always buy books. My to read pile is about two storeys high now, but I just can't stop buying

Just as a matter of curiosity, has your book buying increased since you came on the internet? I know mine has, tremendously. Thank goodness for online shopping.

Definitely since joining the Chronicles! Before that I was completely on top of my reading, but now I've realised, due to this site, that there's so much I want to read, and so many recommendations, and thus I keep buying more books much faster than I can read them! Online buying has indeed greatly helped this. But also every time I pop into a second hand book shop, I feel bad if I don't leave without at least two books, so that doesn't help either :D

Fortunately for me (or rather, my bank balance :p) buying books off the Internet is not cost effective over here. Otherwise, given how hard it is to complete certain series just based on bookshops over here and how easy it is to find books online, I'd probably have an even bigger TBR pile than I currently do :)

The True Game trilogy - Sheri S. Tepper *This is supposed to include the original trilogy by Tepper that helped launch the career, so it will be interesting to compare to 2 classics Grass and Beauty.
