Torchwood

I live in Australia and we aren't getting it here either. Thank god for bit torrent.

I understand, I too lurve Captain Jack :)

Trouble is...Everyone else's TV is so heavily censored on the main networks it seems from over here...Torchwood is only likely to turn up on something like HBO or cable (I think)...Which I think is ironic as everyone else seems to regard the Brits as somewhat staid...But we've got it on within reach of Kids (admittedly ones who stay up late-ish) on one of the main British channels...Weird that...It'll turn up at some point..Especially if it's as big a hit as it should be...:D ...

I really do hope so, I'm loving what I've seen. I've watched the first two eps about three times!

Thanks, your hope is like a beacon to us old colonials :D

Ladygiggs! I never picked you for a supporter of colonialism!

I don't know about the censorship on our TV networks. They seem pretty happy to show an astounding amount of sex and violence in mainstream programs.

I think the main complaint will be that Torchwood is too marginal and they believe it will only appeal to "Trekkies" (because thats how ignorant TV execs are! )

An audience for a show like Torchwood in Australia might be on the fringes, but that doesn't mean they can't show it in non-rating times.

I would compare it to the way 'Ultraviolet' was received. It was a small, but loyal following.

Never saw Ultraviolet. Vampires, yeah?

You know what would be good though? A "The Cat's Away, The Mice Will Play" episode.
Jack would have to travel away on some non-Cardiff-centric alien artifact investigation and the team are left unsupervised.
I'm sure it would start with them all bickering because they have no clear leader without him.

We could really get to see some interesting dynamics then.
Who would try to fill the vacuum of power? (I'm picking Owen, but we all know Gwen has the commonsense.)
Who would be Jack's secret spy? (Ianto. No question.)
Who would be picking at Jack's foibles (I'm watching you ladygiggs, cos you have a naughty mind...) and bitching about him behind his back? (All of them probably, but in a respectfully teasing way ;) I can picture Toshiko doing some side-splittingly funny Jack imitations )

And then when he comes back they all appreciate him more because balance is restored. Then we would be left wondering if he left them alone on purpose as a test or some kind of team-building exercise...

Damn. That was good. Who needs TV?!:)

You sure? After this weeks episode (1.06)?

Ah, but you must remember that due to the limitations of downloading, we have only seen up to ep (1.03 Ghost Machine).

Loner, that ep idea was fantastic. I agree that the team would sort of fall apart without Jack. Owen would try to lead but ultimately fail and I can see what you're saying about Tosh. I like her more and more every ep.

I have never, ever thought about Jack's foibles. I only went on that website once and I'm sure that was photoshopped

AH HA HA HA! :p You're priceless! I'm sure you don't frequent those kinds of sites.*

And yes, pyanfaruk, I'm afraid we have only seen up to ep1.03. That is because we live in the backwoods.

* (Actually I'm sure of no such thing!)

Can anyone confirm whether or not Canada has the rights to show Torchwood or not? I would go searching, but I'm too lazy.

Australian authorities reckon it hasn't gone up for sale yet.

Well then how come they have confirmed that New Zealand have picked it up?

I found this BBC - Press Office - BBC Worldwide secures first international pre-sale for Torchwood
they say: "BBC Worldwide announced today it has concluded two major co-production deals with Canadian broadcaster, CBC, for Torchwood, the BBC's latest sci-fi thriller, and Doctor Who series three. "

"Canada has taken Doctor Who to its heart with passion and enthusiasm. I am delighted that our working relationship with CBC means that the Doctor and the TARDIS will rematerialize on CBC screens for the third series and that it will be joined by Russell T Davies' thrilling new series, Torchwood".

"CBC is proud to supplement our overwhelmingly Canadian schedule with the best of the rest of the world, and our British programming has struck a real chord with audiences here. We're delighted with the success of Doctor Who, and we're sure Torchwood will prove equally popular."

So that's a yes.Canada has it. Australian authorities are lying (as always) and then will make the excuse that they didn't know it was available.

That's it. I'm moving to Kiwi land.

One thing confused me in the latest epidose. (possible spoiler?) At the end Ianto said 'Theres lots of things you can do with a stopwatch', and jack agreed and said he would send everyone home early and meet him in his office. I didn't quite get what was being implied here, because the only thing i can think of is.................not what im guessing is what was meant by this. Am i missing something with this?

Not too sure about the stopwatch thing - but this episode was the best by far!

If they continue making episodes like this, Torchwood can't go wrong!
The team working as a team on a case that is compelling, dramatic, emotional and driven - with no sex/expletive gimmicks.

FANTASTIC!

The stopwatch thing was a come-on. There was then sex. You are so naive.
Moistfish, you were right. I know Ianto had a girlfriend, but that is no barrier, none at all.

i suppose it makes sense when you think of the 'CPR' jack gave him after the cyberwoman attack...................................
