Don't hate Cat

The problem is that Raven posts on these forums... and after I read his arguments I always finding myself agreeing with him 100%. My distaste for Catelyn dies when he makes sense.

Raven is always 100% accurate when it comes to details. This is opinion. Some people look at Jean Valjean as a theif and criminal others as a provider and hero. The fact is that he stole bread. Two seperate things.

I'm with you.

To agree with DE, Cat's a b!tch. THe sooner she gets rung up the better!

So I am not really a huge fan of Cat but sometimes I get confused by how much credit people who hate her give her. Quite a few people contributed to the fall of the Starks. For example, She did tell her husband to go to King's Landing but she didn't make him so freakin bad at the game of thrones. She says he can trust Petyr but a smart man would think "gee, mabye he has changed since she knew him and oh wait he just might hate me for marrying his dream woman, I think I won't pin all my hopes on him". Also, what kind of idiot listens to his mom, who has no milatary experience, when fighting a war. I would say Robb messed up the Starks pretty bad with that whole falling in love thing. He also wasn't too into pity when he cut off Karstark's head. Kipnapping Tyrion was a good move, trusting her sister to deal with him rationaly was not. About the being a bad mom thing, I think just mabye if I was crippled from the waist down in a freak accident at the age of 7 or so and in a coma, my mom might just be sad enough to withdraw from the rest of my family a smidge. Its really not that shocking. Neither is the fact that she doesn't like having the symbol of her husbands infidelity hanging out with her. Find me some women who do. Oh and misplaced anger a a father's deathbed is not really unheard of either.

I don't see a problem with Cat and Co. hanging Brienne and Co.
A Tarly catspaw, Tyrion's own squire, and Brienne, who was wearing Lanister Arms, and the Kings seal to go about his business.
I can definitly see why they would hang all three. They're at war!

Yes, but who exactly are they at war with? The "bad guys?" It seems to me that they were completely unjust. For people who claim to have the right to judge others, they did an awful job of putting Brienne and her companions on trial. At least Beric Dondarrion allowed people to fight back. Cat's condemnation of Brienne was about as sane as Aerys' killing of Ned's father and brother. Cat is mad at the world, plain and simple. What will it take to put her soul at rest?

First time i read AGOT, I didnt blame Cat so much. I thought she was just A mother trying to do the best by her Husband and Children......

When I re-read, then read the next books I thought she was Blundering, Mad Old Trollop!!!!

I see her as the Protagonist to the whole Grand War of Kings... Kidnapping Tyrion...(despite Eddards wish to lay low and investigate JA's murder) Instigated the Houses fighting each other. Granted it may have gone that way once the Incest was discovered but Eddard could have been ready and had suitable protection!!

She seems to be as stupid as Cersei in her playing of the Game of Thrones, but where Cersei is Cruel and power hungry Catelyn is just..... A Daft Ol' BINT!!!
So it seems she is just carrying on in her old ways of one mistake to the next!!!

but what will Brienne call out??? As it said she shouted a Word ( and not a name ) I think maybe:

TRIAL....for trial by sword
or BUGGER!....just for fun ( waiting possibly 2 books, to find out she said "Bugger" then Died...Brilliant )

From reading Cat's POV I feel that the only way to stop her would be to appeal to love for her family. I think Brienne called out one of Cat's daughter's names. or mabye "FREEEDOOOM"

thought about Ice too...but wouldnt that make Stoneheart worse, knowing her Husbands Sword has been melted down and made into 2 Lannister swords......

Maybe she'll shout " Look its a plane" then when they look up she'll cut herself down and run away.........or not

You don't know how ticked I am gonna be when we finally read this in 4 years only to find out that Brienne screams "Wait".

If I were about to be hanged I think I could come up with a few words to say!

I don't know why, but I think she would have shouted "Sansa" or "Arya" (probably Sansa) to let her know that at least 1 of her daughters is alive and that's she's on the trail of them and has information on her last known whereabouts.
As far as Cat's concerned all her family are dead, remember? This word may jolt her back into her (slightly nicer) former self. :)

My..I am surprised to see so much anti-Catness..I am definitely not crazy about her and she did treat Jon like crap.. but I guess my dislike is tempered by the fact that her path to hell was paved with good intentions (for the most part)

I like Stoneheart..can't wait to see her tear into the Freys :littledance:

OKAY... just digging up the old dregs of the conversation here. but Catelyn Stark deserves the have the rotted face she donnes to valliantly now. She had failed as both a mother and a wife.
"How has she failed as a mother" you may ask? well. first off, her leaving winterfell and all her boys which Eddard has SPECIFICALLY asked her to watch over and went down to kings landing with Rod (who could have gone alone no problem to talkt o eddard, why did caitlyn need to come) and then go later on and do the worst she could possibly do by letting the kingslayer go, through miles and miles of outlaw infested terrain with nobody but one bodyguard? all the while hoping that the oh so valliant knight who have no honor(at the time) to go and fufil himself and bring back the darling stark girls who were his enemy. such rash decisions are really weird for such an intelligent woman (possibly shes not so different than Lysa after all). The whole time i read her chapters i only liked when robb was around. the rest of the time she was either a bitch, complaining or was doing something stupid. She is liek that fly that would not go away till you smash it. which afterall happered. but Robb, they deadly awesome dragonfly was swatted too. Sad to say. and that made me quite corss and then she has the nerve to come up again (unwanted) replaces Beric, and then goes about what she wants for revenge and kills her most failthful servant (maybe) who was only dedicating herself to Caitlyn! i think its safe to say that Cat was a pretty, but F*CKING ANNOYING one. i wouldnt gave her to the pound right away.

What could she have done in Winterfell to save it? Politically, letting Jaime go was a bad move, but if Edmure wasn't such an idiot(refusing to let Lord Tywin go back to the west lands, which happened becuase he DIDN'T LISTEN TO CATELYN, thus ruining Robb's plans and forcing Tywin to participate in the Battle of the Blackwater Rush and put an end to Tyrion's power) and Tyrion had survived as a player then her plan would most likely have worked. Most of the problems attributed to Cat were either the result of men being morons and not listening to her or completely random events that she could have done nothing to prevent. Okay, so she did kidnap Tyrion, but she honestly thought that he was responsible for trying to kill Bran and who hasn't ever done something rash and stupid?(characters in the books or people in general)

Even after she has become UNCAT I still dont hate her. I have a feeling that GRRM is going to position her in a heroic death. I feel sorry for her , she wants justice & she wants revenge.

Before she was turned into a wight she was always one step from loony-ville with her sister Lysa "watch you step" Arryn.

snow

Did you just indicate that Rhollor is the god that is behind making Wights? Since it was Rhollor who brought her back to life. Therefore, if she's a wight, then someone in the North just had their position cut down by a really large margin.

Along with your precious Lord Snow in grave danger through Melisandre... With the King Stannis and all his men and the Watch and the North.

My reasons for hating Cat.

1) I love Jaime and she wants him dead :)
2) I love Lannisters and she does not
3) She just annoys me.

To make one thing clear, though...if an undead Brienne was forcing Catelyn to kill, I dunno, Eddard because she blames him for Jaime's death, I would completely adore her.

But when Catelyn wants Brienne to kill Jaime for pretty much the same reason(even though it is unvalid, because he is trying to fulfill his oath to her! :D ;) )...well, I hate her. :D

It's not like Jaime doesn't deserve it, though. Hey, I'm a big Jaime fan and a Catelyn hater... but honestly, he deserves to be thrown screaming from the top of the Wall.
