Bonehunters

Well said. I can't wait to get back to Lether for RG... but MT was too much of a break in the series when the next book wasn't out yet :D

GUESS WHAT? It was the middle of the night when I suddenly realised that I should have stated that Bonehunters was better than Midnight Tides, not Memories of Ice.

So, I have not only confused myself but dear Nixie and all of the other Erikson fans, including the 'rocking Cal/Rane! :(

Apologies to all...

That's ok Rosie, I knew you meant MT:D

Fair enough:)

Mind you, you're still wrong:p

I think what MT suffered from on my first read was the lack of a linking character. Each of the other books has a linking element to Gardens of the Moon. However on my subsequent re-reads I really enjoy the book.

On another note I've finally finished the Bonehunters ...... roll on the next one. It was a great book but asked more questions than it answered.

At last, the book seems to return to the original story about the Malazans, and the various armies of that time.

AND some of my favourite characters have returned, albeit in other guises. :D
I feel that I am getting somewhere at last...:)

I feel much the same as Dolorous Edd about MT...which is probably another reason for enjoying The Bonehunters...

Oh bother, he's killed of a couple of my favourite characters again !!

oh, I know they will be around probably in the next book, but as someone else...I do wish he wouldn't do it though !!

I just wish they'd stay dead :(
Too true. Its the only thing that's starting to annoy me about Erikson. Too many of his characters that he kills off come back again. The ones that stay dead are so much better - like Itkovian, and Whiskeyjack.

spoiler------------

he didnt really bring anyone back from the dead in bonehunters! apart from again mentioning coltaine being reiterated. but hedge is a ghost and well the other major possible resurrection was momentary at best.

True, ben, but...

SPOILERS

He was so close to letting Kalam die, and then he had some random stuff with Dancer and left him in the Deadhouse. Whats that about? Just let him die, Hood damn it!!

NO... I liked that I didn't want Kalam to die

I don't think anyone gets my point. I've tried to explain it on a number of forums, and failed every time.

SPOILERS

I don't want these characters to die. Kalam is awesome, one of the best characters in the series, and I'd severely miss him if he went. But having said that, if Erikson is gonna make him wade through 600 Claw, only to have him fall gallantly at the end, then JUST LET HIM GO WITH SOME DIGNITY!!! Dragging them off into the malazan equivilent of cold-storage in an Azath is just not good story-making. If he's gonna do it, go the whole hog Stevie m'boy, don't chicken out half way!!

I agree completely. Plus imo, conversationalist ghost = back from the dead. Let them be.

SPOILERS

In Bonehunters, Scillara and Cutter both should have died. I don't care who was supposed to be protecting them (there's no evidence of that anyway). They both should have died. Probably the baby too. And Greyfrog. Very fortunate that his race can shed a dead body, don't you think? Grow some balls, man.

I daresay you are all correct in saying that the dead should stay dead...
however after thinking about it, that does take an element of speculation out of the story. Do you not wonder, like I do, how a character will reappear? Yes, I know I said it was frustrating but perhaps that is part of Erikson's plan!
