What drew you to SG1 and what keeps you?

These are the types of shows that I enjoy the most - the ones that take the human drama and play it out. It comes out as 'entertainment' rather than lecturing or speech making if done well. In some cases, a person isn't even aware that that is what has happened.
As I sit and scroll through the listings each day, I'm wondering what we're coming to as I see that the highest rated shows are 'reality shows' or 'get rich quick' shows.

Imagination on some fronts seems to have come to a screaming halt.

Cheers,

The first episode I ever saw was the syndicated version of emancipation, and to tell the truth I watched it because Sam looked really hot in that low cut dress. But now I love the show for just about every aspect of it. The characters, the stories, and the effects. Plus Sam still looks hot.

Testosterone levels just hit the roof. HAHA. did anyone else like Solitudes?

Back to the original question, how did I get hooked?
A friend rang me and raved on and on and on about it,so obviously I had to watch it and now can't stop! Why thats due to the storylines, character interactions, acting and the added bonus of lead characters that are kind to the eyes.
I agree with you on Farscape padders they are more 'human' not perfect.I was put off by the Jim Henson link to start with so missed the first half of S1,but I'm there to stay now(I really must get a life).

DSD sounds as if he was been reading Octavia E. Butler, one of my favorite writers. That is why she writes SF. Saw Brief Candle and First Commandment. Thought it was O.K. Then saw "The Serpent's Grasp" and fell hard, especially over Teal'c. Started watching regularly and loved it. Then having DSD, who I have liked since "Twin Peaks", wasn't a bad move.
It is generally well written and always well acted...not that I always agree with what is going on... Had problems with Scorched Earth and a some of Season 1. Like the arcs in the stories and the fact that the government undermines a lot of what the SGC tries to do...

Being an avid sci fi fan, I saw the movie, which I loved. I was intrigued by the whole plot and the mythology and the characters. When the series began, I was so excited. I have always been a fan of Richard Dean Anderson, so I tuned in. "Children of The Gods" was amazing - it took over right where the movie ended. I loved the way RDA was playing O'Neill, with more emotion, humanity and humor than Kurt Russell. I immediately fell in love with Michael Shanks as Daniel. There was just no turning back.

Hm... always likled Eqyptian stuff and the film was good. Thecharacters are believable and human- gotta go, dinners over!

Yeah, I got hooked from the outset too. I've always been a sci-fi fan and, after a trip to Egypt, got hooked on ancient Egyptian mythology too, so the original film was a "must see" for me. My hubby got interested in the spin-off series while I wasn't keen on the idea as I usually find these a bit of a let down, but Stargate proved me wrong. The ground base of the film idea was expanded out well, and the new characters added the needed ingredients for an engaging series. I hope they keep the quality up 'cos it's been great so far.
cheers

when stargate started, i didn't have showtime so i had no idea what it was about, i just remember my general manager at the time coming to me asking if i'd watch the show and my response was something like an hour with mcgyver...absofreakinglutely.
course we didn't get the show but as soon as it started on another station i started watching it and was hooked.
good writing, funny moments, high drama. and it was set in my world...sorta. see i've been to colorado springs before and since. this summer when i was there i kept staring at cheyenne mountain, i dunno maybe i was hoping to see a mother ship landing on top of it or something.
do know when i was wandering the streets of manitou springs i kept hoping to see someone(snowball's chance in netu but...well a girl can hope)
then, face it i was hooked. a sci fi show WITH a PLOT, good characters, relatively believable, and mixing mythology into the mix made it even better. i've often found myself wishing i'd paid more attention to that mythology class i had back in high school.

I fell in love with James Sprander(sp) and saw that he was in this movie "Stargate" and decided to watch, saw the first show and saw Tealc and then...... heck with James Sprander(sp) :D

Teal'c is definately the main of the four stars! Then Jack and Daniel and Sam. But the Other characters are great but supporting and continueing!

Hooked on Stargate!

Oh Yeah Sur, You Betcha! Anyone who loves adventure and travel would surely not find it hard to get hooked on this series. The thought of being able to jump through a portal to discover new worlds and civilizations! Wow, and the team....well, dey ain't bad on the eye candy either!

Oh for sure, there are so many possibilities.... Just look at the weird and wonderful stuff on the net!

actually, i love science, anything to do with science, can't remember what episode i saw first. but i remember hearing Sam talk and thinking 'this is so cool!' then i caught sight of RDA's rear end.

Now, not a day goes by without me thinking of sg or some sg related topic. i'm nuts i tell you. (i need a padded cell- with Daniel, of course) people think i'm in my own world i dont live in my reality no more. i keep wondering which reality i'm from, and a myriad of other questions enough to give Jack a headache.

i'm going to make one hell of an astrophysics with my head filled with info about the stargate. I can just picture the day i get transferred to work on another project and i see the stargate and i burst into the tears b/c it's the one moment in my life i've been living for. and everyone looks at me as if i've gone mad(which i have) and ask why i'm crying and i'll say "it's a bloody stargate!" (okay i'll continue this crazy fantasy in my head)

bye!

Ah, like languages and astrophys, also great characters. Love all sci-fi esp. those that can poke fun of themselves... Am obsessed!

I started to watch SG-1 because of RDA.
I've always been a big sci-fi fan and love the Stargate film. I was hooked since the beginning. It has everything that usually has a good sci-fi show - great writing, acting, special effects. Love the SG-1 team, gen. Hammond, dr. Fraiser and the others and the interactions between them. Love the idea that, thanks to alien's artefact, people can travel across the universe without using spaceships. It's something new and different from the other sci-fi shows. Also mythological aspects are very interesting. And of course I can see RDA a lot. ;)

Stargate the movie was great. I remember thinking it was mind blowing when I saw it at the pictures. The series is even better now. Of course the other thing that helped was the fact that I used to love Macgyver. RDA is sooo sexy!
