What drew you to SG1 and what keeps you?

I've just skimmed this thread. Here's my answer to the original question. I started watching SG-1 because there was:
1. A basic lack of any Sci-Fi I had been able to watch on TV to decide whether I liked it or not.
2.I was being persauded by some friends to watch 'Star Trek' and 'Farscape', but with my Science Fictionally-speaking unimaginative sister always wanting to watch something else, I didn't get a chance. (Poor excuse, I know)
Well, I discovered Stargate, before seeing the film, in my school holidays. I stuck to it, basically, because I like the characters. Those of you who think that, like the Farscape people, Sg-1 are far from perfect, have a definite point, I mean, think about episodes like 'Thor's Hammer'/Thor's Chariot', now that really was their fault!

Oh, yeah, Archiver (sorry, I didn't catch any other name) I did think 'Solitudes' wasn't all that bad.

I like the idea - to go somewhere and to discover something, and if you have good friends, what could be better? What I do not like is that sometimes the stories are too "military." Is it necessary to wear allways those army stuff?

I'm a newbie here, but I thought I'd say it was definitely the characters that drew me. The first ep I watched was (I forget the name) an early one, with the blue crystal-beings. There was a lot of Jack development, and I really liked his character, so I was hooked from that time on. I also really like the interaction between Daniel and Jack.

WELCOME, JADE_DRAGONFLIER !

Hi, Jade_Dragonflier,

Welcome to our forum. The episode is Cold Lazarus, a favorite of many.

Glad that you decided to delurk and join us. That is an interesting name. People would love seeing the why behind it and we have a thread for that. "Why *THAT* name" in the chit chat fora which you can find on the pull down menu at the bottom of the screen. Rare and unusual name! You seem to be getting along well and are brave enough to post! If you can't find a thread you want you can open a new thread in the appropriate forum! Just read the information about spoiler space in the threads and keep it general or many get spoiled because we have four season of SG-1 and some people are only on the Second Season.

Look around, have a good time , post and enjoy!

i seen the film first, and loved it.
the mixture of sci-fi & egyptology and
i was hooked. then of course there's danny
what keeps me hooked is the humour, jack is
so funny. i also like the way there like family
i also like the adventure of visiting new worlds
and people..peachy

Hey peachy - U stole my line ... it's almost the same here... what drew me in the first place was the curiosity to find out how they were gonna continue the story from the movie ... and then the odd yet fascinating combination of sci fi and archaeoloy...

What kept me - apart from the really cool stories - THE SPACEMONKEY of course (I like RDA too but Danny Boy is one of a kind..) .. back then I thought James Spader was the perfect man for the job but MS has taken the character to heights (and depths) Spader couldn't have (methinks)

However - I'm always looking forward to my next SG1 fix and in the meantime I read FF...

that's it - short story long ... ;-)

Hello, Teena!

Welcome to our Forum Teena,

Everyone has a favorite reason of staying with SG-1.

We are a large part of a many sectioned beast. On the tope of the screen are the names of other Universes you can clik o to visit. There is also a pull down menu at the bottom of your screen for the Stargate (as well as other sections) Forum. Browse around, post, have a good time and enjoy yourself. This is now your forum, too!

I liked the movie originally. What a pleasant surprise that several years later they developed the series.

The characters and their interactions are what keep me attracted to the series. This group of actors have mastered the art of nuance. They speak volumes to each other with their body language, eye contact and significant speech pauses. So much so, that the audience cannot help feeling part of their close-knit group.

I admire the way RDA characterizes O'Neill -- tough exterior, disguising a loyalty and respect for his comrades that seems rare in this day and age. Michael Shanks conveys beautifully Daniel's sense of wonder and love of learning. Amanda Tapping captures the strength required for Major Carter to cut it in what essentially remains a boys club, while not losing her personality. And Christopher Judge. . .What can be said about him except that he manages to give what could have been a two-dimensional alien, a solid third-dimension with his incredibly expressive eyes and face.

I'll keep watching as long as this talented group keeps making episodes for us.

I started watching Stargate because a friend of mine who was a big fan of the show urged me too. She told me I'd love it once I started to watch regularly. I began watching and I loved the fact RDA was in it but it wasn't until I saw Season 2's Serpent's Song did I get hooked so completely! I came into the series late Season 2 but thanks to a marvelous friend I have seen all the episodes up to Season 3's The Devil You Know.

I love RDA but he's no longer the sole reason I watch the series: I love the characters, the storyline, writing, and superb acting by everyone on this show. I love it that I feel so strongly with and for these characters and I love watching them grow.

All this is why I keep coming back for more of Stargate SG-1...

lots of good reasons, i have to agree with almost all of that. Teal'c especially, i can't think of any actor with facial expressions that good.

And by the way, welcome to the site :) great to see another member de-lurking and posting away :)

Oh my turn.

Huge sci-fi fan, saw the ad for stargate thought yep give it a go, luvvvvved it and the rest is history.

I'm still watching it coz i'm addicted (i know alot of you are) every week i get my sg1 shot and during the week the net feeds my cravings.

the film sold StarGate to me... when I heard about the series, I watched it and loved it. I totally agree with the above comments about the characters being very well acted, epecially Teal'C :)

SG1

I agree with you Mark. I loved the film Stargate so when I heard about a series, thought give it a go and I am completely hooked. I'm so sad I even watch the repeats. Thanks to my hubby I am also collecting the DVD's. Just a good excuse really to spend some money on something GREAT!!!!.

Amazing, we're still on topic, 3 pages later! :D
I saw the movie, and thought it was great, and then saw Within the Serpents Lair on Sky, and it looked good. (It's now one of my fave eps!) Finally tracked down when the series was airing, and been a dedicated fan since!
What keeps me? Cute actors, mythology and the deep voices/glowing eyes!;)
And the hope that one day they'll give away a free symbiote...:D

what drew me?

JACK O'NIELL! and DANIEL and TEAL'C and SAM and of course my favorite besides Jack is GENERAL HAMMOND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :p

What drew me?

I did the opposite to most people here. I saw the advetisement on Sky for the series while watching ST:VOY (well i think it was) and saw RDA was in it and thought it had to be good - so i watched it and have been hooked ever since.

Cool plots, great cast, fun & humour - need I saw anything more????

What drew me?

I should of said I didn't see the film until I watched season 2!!!!

the film was good, and it was plain to me that there would either be a sequel, or a series to come out of it! (and it looks like we'll get both ;)) I like the way they've been able to develop the main characters in ways that can't be done in the space of a movie, I far prefer RDA and MS to Kurt Russel and James Spader ;) neither of them had much charisma in the roles...
