I've just skimmed this thread. Here's my answer to the original question. I started watching SG-1 because there was:
1. A basic lack of any Sci-Fi I had been able to watch on TV to decide whether I liked it or not.
2.I was being persauded by some friends to watch 'Star Trek' and 'Farscape', but with my Science Fictionally-speaking unimaginative sister always wanting to watch something else, I didn't get a chance. (Poor excuse, I know)
Well, I discovered Stargate, before seeing the film, in my school holidays. I stuck to it, basically, because I like the characters. Those of you who think that, like the Farscape people, Sg-1 are far from perfect, have a definite point, I mean, think about episodes like 'Thor's Hammer'/Thor's Chariot', now that really was their fault!
Oh, yeah, Archiver (sorry, I didn't catch any other name) I did think 'Solitudes' wasn't all that bad.
