Actually, I liked Kes. I thought she was a better character than Neelix. Now Quark's people {I forget their name} were scary. With their LAWS OF ACQUISITION!

Maybe Stargate can get character ideas from fairytales. There are some really gruesome ones out there.

Hmm... now about little Red Riding Hood?

Little Red Riding Hood - Sam

The wolf - Maybourne!!!

The LumberJack - why of course Jack!

Grandmother - Teal'c :laugh2: :laugh2:

Daniel can be a cute woodland creature or something!

CUTE! I said gruesome, not cute. Tales from the Brothers Grimm, or some of the really scary, evil, grisly Irish fairytales.

My dear! There is nothing cute about wolves eating old age pensioners!:D ;) :D

Actually, I find the comment about the Goa'uld not being scary rather sad, because it bears out what I have always felt about this show, and keep watching because I want them to prove me wrong and that is, that the whole idea of it is to make the humans in the form of SG1 & co look like invincible heroes. So the enemy are dehumanised and reduced to either a comic opera character like Apophi or if the enemy character looks close to have any kind of substance to him or her, they kill them off.

It makes the show very two dimensional which saddens me greatly because it could have great depths to it, even given limited budgets and timescales.

I still maintain that the quiet menace of Cronos, and indeed Yu added a certain something to the mix, but because the majority of the fans can't add a romantic dimension to them, they mostly don't even notice these cameo parts, or indeed the excellent actors who played them....

Very sad indeed......

:(

Well, if you put it THAT WAY. :D I guess I've grown up with the sanitized version in school and thru Bugs Bunny cartoons. It just isn't that scary! Funny, but not scary.

Yeh, you got that right.
It's hard these days to do something that people will find truely scary.

The greatest System Lord

Well finally! Someone else who actually thought the character of Cronos had something. Thanks Nic. I was beginning to feel as though I was living in a desert, surrounded by rabid SG1 fans. His character was the first one that made me sit up and really take notice of the show, he hovered at the edge of my consciouness long after the episode had ended.

That's called 'good acting'. He was an attractively oily, mean, menacing creature, who made me really think about the Goa'uld as something rather formidable. His calm, but utter disregard for everything human spoke volumes. In comparison, the rest of them looked like jokes, the only other one who came close to giving me those feelings in the show was Hathor, and in the film, Ra. the rest are a complete joke.

But so far, in amongst all of the SG1 and Apophis hysteria, characters like him haven't stood a chance. And they killed him off, which was singularly the stupidest thing they could have done.

But then maybe Ron Halder had commitments which precluded him from taking on a regular spot, and maybe he was sensible enough not to want to be typecast. So in many ways, although I miss the character of Cronos, I applaud the actor for being sensible about his career.

;)

Yes!!!!! Anni - Chronus was the best system lord. He was truly magnificent! Evil yet handsome, menacing and powerful. I find Apophis a manered charicature. And if he comes back once again I'll scream. It's ridiculous, folks. The other system lords die and stay dead, except A.

Besides, I love Greet mythology, I wish they had developed Chronus' character more and included other Greek gods/heroes, like Hercules (a fight with Teal'c?), Aphrodite (a new Hathor?) could she cause jealous rivalry between the SG1 men, all 3 competing for her and Sam fuming?; Pluto (the original Lord of Hell); Apollo, maybe a system lord so beautiful and seemingly good that he would "confuse" the SGC and SG1; Dyonisius, the god of wine and extasy, has been used to great effect in a fan story, the Wine of Dyonisius; Prometheus, a "good" system lord who tought man to use fire and initiated them in learning (half bad and half good), etc. Greek mythology is great! I wish they had use it more. :(

Yeh, I know what you mean Norita.
Sure, Stargate the film was based around egyptian mythology, but it's been great how the television series has been adapted to show other cultures.
Greek - being my favourite ancient culture.

Like you said, there is so many great Gods and myths that they could follow.

Have they been hanging off because of the Hurecles and Xena series? I know the SG-1 enviroment would give them Gods a menacing, more historically accurate spin rather than a humorous one, but maybe it's a case of "been there, done that." The Xena series has made a hash of 'real' Greek/Roman mythology. I'd hate to see the show become SG-1: the Xena Connection.

I started watching Xena through my interest in greek mythology. I thought it was quite cool, but then I started to think: Hey, does this woman have to work her way into EVERY myth???
Reason I still watch Xena now is because it's hilarious - even the "serious" bits are funny to me! :laugh2:
Plus Gabrielle is a great character - love the development the writers have done with her considering the whiney kid she started off as!

Yeah, the intents of the shows are different. I just hope that the writers of SG-1 remain careful. I want my baddies bad and my human heros cracking each other up.

As we know from seeing characters killed and revived on SG-1, send a character to hell a few times and they come back with an attitude adjustment... :wink2:

:laugh2: got that right!

Too true!! But only if they reactivate the right characters. Apophis is getting silly, I hope he stays dead.

Still I do wish Chronos was still around, he was pretty cool!

Apparently they will be pulling in new system lords... I just hope they have menace! but they need to be more than just one dementional... Apophis started aout as nasty and got femmed...Somewhere near the end Season 3 he became more of a fashion plate and continued that in season 4... His best episode was in the 4/5 end ones where he got menacing again... but not enough

I fear it might be too little, too late though jsc. The damage regarding the credibility of the Goa'uld System Lords has already been damaged by the Writers and producers in their desires to gratify the human need for humans to be strong characters with a sense of honour. Realistically they know that most of the fans would not accept the idea of their human heroes getting their butts kicked, even once in a while. And before there is a mewling outcry from anyone else about SG1 DO get their butts kicked sometimes. Well, yes, they have come fairly close, but in all honesty, they have the devil's own luck in getting free usually. In reality one of more of them would be dead by now and replaced by BCR's (Battle Casualty Replacements)

That fact is that they have shot themselves in the foot earlier in the other seasons by cariacaturing the Goa'uld instead of maintaining that air of menace and mystery they originally had. Now the viewers of Stargate are nochalant and blase about this seemingly highly deadly enemy. The Goa'uld have turned into a joke and the series has turned into a space opera. The Fifth Man did try to go some way into correcting this (I won't give details for those who have not yet seen this), but again I fear it's too little too late, and I still maintain that this show has turned into a 'SG1 kicks butt' or 'SG1 kicks butt against all the odds', farce.

They are obviously trying to pull it back from the brink of incredulity, but methinks that the new System Lords would have to be VERY menacing and convincing indeed in order to redress the balance a little. And quite frankly? I think the need of Stargate production people, writers etc to have SG1 'coming thru' against millions of Jaffa yet again, will hold sway over anything else.

I wish I could feel otherwise, but so far, even though the episodes have been well done and well written, there is nothing in Season 5 to indicate that that wonderful concept of exploring, finding out about earth's origins and amazingly mysterious history is going to take place any time soon.

Oh well, back off the soapbox!

 :( ;)

Whoo! Anni, pulling no punches! I think your soapbox is higher than mine. Having only seen random episodes from season one thru three I haven't seen the slide. What we can't see is what direction the writers and directors were given to follow by TPTB. By season four they should know what sort of director to put on a script. Maybe they got a whole pack of new directors in cold.

If it's something to keep someone happy and on the show, it's their own deal with the devil. What may have seemed reasonable start of season three may have gone out of control in a unexpected way. It's sort of sad that they'd forget to pay attention to the gestalt Gou'auld character and let it slide.

I have to see more of that Hur'our guy. He seemed bent on enslaving the Tauri again. I already know Hathor was a meany and crafty enough to recreate the SGC. From what I've gleened from the site about some season four stuff is that other System Lords wanted to limit the Tauri to Earth and take away all the gates. Sounded to me like a catch-22 situation. That's mean. Especially when the Asguard like and sort of accept that the Tauri are aspiring to take a place as a fifth peaceful race.

i voted hathor, coz she has (had) style!

but i kanda feel sorry for nurti after the SAM incident!!

Got "femmed"? What does that mean? He became feminine???

Remember when the team used to visit interesting cultures?

I miss those kinds of episodes.
