I say Ra, cos he was the most powerfull of the system lords.
In a way ithink its a pity hes dead.:dead: He would make a good SG-1 villan.
Also cos he speaks egyptian, not english.
Thats probably the only thing that i dont like about the show.

In the world of tv anything ois possible, so he may not have snuffed it!:D
Maybe, when they decide Stargate has had it's day, they'll wrap things up with how it all started? (Kind of like the x-files going full circle).
Just a thought...
:D

I miss those episodes too Gemmie, but to be honest, the fans generally get the kind of episodes they demand, and the demand is quite clearly for more Jack,Sam,Teal'c and Daniel. Just look at the Daniel's Boddy thread, or indeed any of the others. In all of them the demand and desire is for more SG1, more personal interaction, and now, interestingly enough, there seems to be a whole new idea starting up about internal intrigue and the possibility of Goa'uld on earth still.

I shall reserve judgement on the latter idea, I am not totally convinced. Although I think that there would have been many like Seth who decided to stay and make the most of the primitive humans and their propensity for worshipping gods or believing in cult figures.

We shall see.....

I have only seen a few pleas for more Goa'uld action, and those generally involved Apophis, who has gained the same sort of hero worship elevation as SG1. But the series has well and truly turned Apophis into a running joke. At first, it seemed to me that he was a worth successor to Ra (that pretty but extremely dangerous little man! and I agree, I think they should resurrect him, because he had absolutely no morals and no qualms about killing anyone), but as the series has worn on, he has become the biggest laugh in the show.

Most of the viewers loved the fact that the System Lords bit the dust so easily, it perhaps never occurred to them that these characters are required if the show is to maintain a balance.

I guess there will now be a big outcry from everyone hastening to inform me that Osiris is still out there..... but let's face it campers (apologies to Jack). Osiris is nothing but a 'big girl's blouse'. And he has the added disadvantage of being Daniels ex-girlfriend. And methinks that can only be a problem for the poor Goa'uld. If I was Osiris, I'd ditch the pathetic skinny blonde chick and find myself a big, hunky tough bloke to jump into. As for the threats that there will be more Goa'uld action, I'll believe that when it happens. But I suspect that it will only be yet another epiosde in which SG1 kicks butt and decimates them.

But alas, I am just one voice of reason crying in the wilderness!!!

Hmm, if I was Osiris I wouldn't be too hasty in leaving the blonde girl. It may prove more of an advantage - and appearances can be deceiving!
I don't think brute force and muscular bodies make the best villians. I like a guy (or girl) who is intellegent, has an uneasy calmness, and shows little emotion.
This character works because he/she retains their mysterious nature and you're unable to get inside their mind - making them unpredictabe.

Sorry Nic..... IMHO..... this character is yet another example of the de-fanging of the Goa'uld. And no, I don't think that a character has to be big and hunky to be menacing. Hathor wasn't and she made a whole heap better Goa'uld than Sarah.

And if they wanted to make anything of this character, then the development should be a lot more pointed than it has been.

And apart from one mention in the Fifth Man Episode, she/he hasn't even been hinted at. And yes I know that the Goa'uld Baltimore has been hinted at, but I really think that the writers/producers of Stargate often indulge themselves in a lot of mirth at the expense of the Stargate fan community. They know you guys absolutely adore SG1 and they could have General Hammond bare his bum in front of the Stargate and they know that most people would find some rational reason why he should. All the writers/producers have to do is to hint at something regarding future episodes and everyone on these lists shoots off at the most weird and wonderful tangents. Of course this is why people like me come on these lists. Because the amount of entertainment supplied by the die hard viewers and fans far outstrips ANYTHING the series could produce ANYDAY!! And some of the comments made have caused me to almost fall off the chair in fits of laughter.

I don't mean this horribly at all either. Every day I fight a horrific illness, and sometimes my spirits have only been buoyed by the people on the lists, and for that I salute you all and offer grateful thanks.

Be that as it may, I find it hard to understand why the writers have begun to establish many Goa'uld characters only to make them bite the dust under the 'expertise' :)rolleyes: ) of SG1 without even making an attempt to re-establish the mystery that made this series something to watch and which it has lost. The same will happen to Osiris, no matter what body he/she is in, after all, this nasty nasty creature had the nerve to take over the body of someone close to Daniel. They absolutely cannot be allowed live!

Some unpredicatability from the show would be very welcome from this viewer.

I agree with many of the points you make Anni.
I feel that SG1 defeat the system lords far to easily, and yes, apophis has become a joke.
I think you may have wrote in an early post that SG1 succeed most the time due to luck, and I side with you there too.

Maybe the writers enjoy killing off system lords after 2 or three episodes because they know there's a load of other Egyptian (or other ancient culture) gods and goddesses out there for them to use.
They knock one down and another pops up.
Problem is it gives us no time to become familiar with a character that isn't a good guy.

Hathor, although great, has had her day I think.
Personally, I'd liked to have seen a bit more around Cronus and/or Seth.

I think that the problem is that many of the writers are going in for the quick kill... and not letting things build slowly... like characterizations... with that cardboardization and emphasis on strictly action a roundedness gets lost... And that includes menace from the system lords. SEASON 4 SPOILERS AHEAD>

Chronos' take down in "Double Jeopardy" was too pat and really not very smart on the part of the writers... I did appreciate that he was trying to Kill the T-Man the same way he killed his father....there was a certain irony in that..... but it was the getting there I found.... trite.

I do agree..... The death of Chronos was far too pat. I don't for one minute buy into the notion that this guy, who must have lived a few centuries if not millennia and who got the reputation of being one of the most influential System Lords, would have been on that ship without protection. And with only one female Goa'uld scientist along for the ride. Even Heru-Ur wasn't that daft. Chronos wouldn't have survived that long by being that stupid. Or that SG1 would have gained access to the ship so simply. As for his death, the writers were obviously trying to encourage the 'Teal'c revenge' thing which of course was carried on in Exodus with his hounding of Tanith. despite putting both himself and Jack in jeopardy. And of course, Daniel did slightly take him to task for that revenge thing. It's almost as if the writers realised what kind of mistake they may have made and were trying to backpedal a little.

But you see, the hyped up ire of the fans and viewers regarding Chronos had already been fuelled by the Fair Game episode in which they not only stated that he had killed Tea'c's father, but had also had the extreme gall to send the Ashrak after Jolinar. So they had already set the scene and also set in stone the hatred of the fans for this Goa'uld who had upset SG1. Then in Crossroads, they portrayed him as being a complete villain, by showing him executing T-Man's dad in what was obviously a typical Goa'uld method of execution. And considering that in the US they put people in the electric chair and watch them twitch for a good few minutes or so before they finally die. Who is worse?

Or are we saying that we are more justified in the actions we take? Or that our moral value set should be the same as another species? Perhaps in the eyes of Chronos and the moral code of the Goa'uld, T-Man's dad's failure was as bad as someone on earth murdering someone else and being executed.

I still say that we are nowhere near being at the stage where we could go out there and accept other species for what they are, without trying to impose our human moral values on their society. We don't have the right. But the writers by sheer dint of their scripts are constantly telling the viewers that our values are tthe right ones and that some alien couldn't possibly be right.

Okay! Off the Soapbox ....... PHEW!!!

:dead: :D

Anni,

"But the writers by sheer dint of their scripts are constantly telling the viewers that our values are tthe right ones and that some alien couldn't possibly be right. "

That is why that is a good example of cultural propoganda.... and at its worst... jingoism!

Why do you think I enjoy your novel so much.... besides the adventure, good dialogue and characterizations, and the sex!

LOL.... you just keep mentioning that 'sex' thing jsc.... I sent the first two parts to Asmiley last night and she hasn't come up for air yet! I guess that could be either a negative or a positive comment!!!

I am just about to send Bee the novel also.

Hi Anni.
Is this a novel you're wanting to get published?

I have an idea! Where does all our folklore come from? The Gou'ald that's who! Who was the real Vlad? Maybe Frankenstein was an alien lifeform implanted with a symbiot that didn't take. I think they should do a show on the "fact" that vampires were real. That would be interesting as long as the writers don't wrap everything up nice and tidy by the end of the show.

:laugh2:

I can picture a Stargate guide book written by the writers:
"How to kill a goa'uld in 50 minutes"!

Actually it's my novel that I write for fun while I write my real book which will get published when I've managed to write it all! ~The novel couldn't be published without the consent of the owners of the Stargate property anyway.

Don't know if it would be considered good enough for that......

But I have deadlines on the other book.....

Vampire Goa'uld? Now that's an interesting concept. But I do wish that they'd stop killing Goa'uld in 50 minutes and leave them long enough to cook up into some sort of reasonably menacing enemy!!!

I couldn't have put that better!;)

so what you goin go do about your "fun" novel? Are you going to put it up as fanfic? I'd love to read it if you do!:D

It's a bit long to post and it's not finished. But I have sent it to Asmiley, Peachy and Bee for them to read..... and jsc has been reading it from the beginning. We've had some great discussions over my ideas! I can send the first two parts to you if you like. but SG1 doesn't actually come in to it for the first few chapters.

yeh, that would be sweet!
I warn you though, Im a slow reader... very slow (I try to picture everthing!), so don't be offended if you want feedback and I don't reply straight away:D

I thought picturing everything was what everyone did when they read!!!

I can't really post it because it's too big, but if Nic and Gemmie send me email addies I will send you the first two parts. But I give you the same warning as I gave everyone else. It's not finished, it needs to be properly proofread which I haven't got time to do at present and it's a story from the point of view of two people mainly.... that of the chief characters who are a Goa'uld and a human. It's about their relationship and SG1 do have a role, but its very much a supporting one. I introduce the notions of Goa'uld still being on earth and a connection to a much more highly advance species than any met so far. I've also tried to tie in my take on what god might be... which many might not agre with, but I've tried to make it believable and palatable.

Give me your addies and Iwill send it. You might think its a load of tripe, but that doesn't matter because it only exists to help me chill out really. I hadn't actually intended it for wide public consumption....
