5.10: 2001

I agree, very wrong. Why can't the directors or SOMEONE figure out these inconsistancies! The whole show was really good, except for the MAJOR problem at the end.

To me, that is the problem with the show, which I still like very much. However, they have a great story line, strong acting, good sets and techinical stuff, but actually bringing the whole story together is something of a mystery to them. It seems there has to be one part that is completely out of charactor, story line or something.

As a shippie lover in the uk, im begining to wonder if its worth hanging in there, for season 5.

I'm not expecting s/j to start shedding clothes and doing the wild thing but i live for the little looks and touches which was there by the bucketfull in season 4.

Form what you guys are saying they dont seem to give a rats 'ahem tail' about whats happend to sam in this ep.

PLEASE TELL ME IS THERE ANYTHING FOR A SHIPPER TO LOOK FORWARD TO ?

i dunno, but there better be.

rite i've seen the eppie (even though i said i wouldn't) and you are all rite about the end thing with the guys and carter. but

but but but
maybe a dot of shippiness (i'm desperate) jack is looking at sam or near sam nearly the entire scene. and he does look genuine when he tells here she did a good job.

one thing, sg1archive cuts off just as he asks if she okay. what hapens after that. does she say "yes sir" and thats it, or what?

plz tell me
ciao
jaxie :rolly2: :blah: :freak4: :karate:  :smokin: :star:

Just entirely out of curiosity, but I can't resist asking.......

The shippers who are mourning the lack of shippiness... Can I ask you if this aspect is the only thing you like in the show, or do you enjoy other parts of the Stargate concept?

Speaking as a non shipper, I can see why you're all confused. It appears to be either the feast or the famine. The writers and producers don't seem to be able to make up their mind whether to have the characters care about each other or not. They keep see-sawing from almost declarations of love and serious bonding between the team members to a sort of 'we don't give a crap about each other really' disinterest and it doesn't make for good continuity at all.

As for Sam at the end. Well they wouldn't have known just how badly she was hurt and if she had dislocated anything it wouldn't have been a good idea for them to move her until she'd been checked over. And as for nobody showing concern, that may well have been for Senator Kinsey's benefit. If he saw them being over-emotional about each other, he may well have tried to use that as a lever to get rid of them. 'They're not impartial enough', 'too emotionally attached to each other to be a viable team' yada yada yada......

as one who was terribly annoyed at the boys friday i do have to say i do see the point of how it was played.
yes you don't go hurrying to hug/comfort an injured person, especially a person injured in the rough way sam was, heck she coulda broke her back on that fall.
and yes there was a medic right there who sure as heck knew more than they did
and yes it was probably appropriate not to give kinsey any more against them then he already had

still don't care for it too much but i can see why they did what they did and i can live vicariously through the fic of others.

as to the ship....they have toned it down. for good or bad several folks were not too fond of season 4 adn the rather blatant ship in season 4.
also for good or bad i recall an interview of RDA in which he said they were toning it down for season 5 and 'anything they do is depending on whether or not there will be a season 6' (paraphrased but close enough)

so shippers take heart, i think it is more than likely s&j will get together in the end..but likely in THE END so...all of you wishing for undying declarations of love and roses...you're gonna likely have to wait for 22 plus episodes.

i don't want any of the mushy crap....just sum nice tension EVERYNOW AND THEN

oh and to anni

i'm in it for the show, everything...this includes the almost dead shippiness.

i like the plot, the action, the actors, the drolling over danny, the everything. i just like the shippiness tooo...........:smiliea: :rain:  :star: :erm:  :blah:

jaxie my bud, you said it..:D

i love the show for the show...if there was no shippy ness i'd still love it for its originality, its possibilities, the exploration of what's out there, the plausability of the exploration, the team dynamics, the acting of the actors, the special effects, the production design..etc....but.....i really liked the tension of unrequited affection...and i think they have made the characters too blase (not sure of sp?) about each other. all of them, danny and teal'c included.:D

as already said, i do love the show there are great eps with no shippyness at all, but the interaction between characters is my fav part of the show, to build up this tension over the past 4 seasons then totaly ignore it just doesn't seem wright or make any sense, surely they can still flirt ect without going overboard and offending non shipper lovers.

a compromise is all im asking they managed it through seasons 1-3. maybe a bit to much for some in season 4, but hey it worked for me.

so respect to the show, and i will as always watch every ep and buy it on dvd when its out, but will i enjoy it as much i dunno heres hoppin.

Sorry! Slightly OT!

Thank you for answering my question, those of you who did, and you only confirmed what I have always thought.... that there are many many fans out there who still basically love the concept, whether the shippiness or other aspects had existed or not.... I know that there ARE many fans who still just like the show because the the SG1 team characters, but I was curious to see whether people would watch it for the actual show concept itself. i.e. the Gate travel, other species and worlds, discovering the roots of civilisations etc.

I have a distinct feeling that the IDEA of gate travel to other worlds involving human beings from earth and from OUR timeline (unlike Star Trek, Andromeda etc) and not only involving futuristic spacecraft is what turned many of the fans on in the first place and of course the character development followed. I think that the Stargate series kind of brings it closer to home somehow and makes the idea more accessible. Star Trek was all very well, and wonderfully innovative for its day (the 1960's), but Stargate is hugely popular I think, not just because of the acting team and their convincing protrayal of their characters, but because the concept of gate travel is very enticing and thrilling to most of us and because many folk find it difficult to relate to events that are set at a future time in which we wouldn't be alive (24th century etc etc).

As much as many of you might think that the Stargate universe would end without RDA and Co. I think that the concept of something like a stargate to other worlds is something that will remain long after we've forgotten that SG1 existed. And no offence intended to the actors who will no doubt, move on with their careers after the show ends.

Definately. I would be first in line if we could ever figure out gate travel.:rolly2:

considering how bad the publicity for stargate is by showtime, like not promoing it or anything, and at least here in the nyc area in syndication its on at midnite on saturdays *sarcastically-wonderful time slot*
though occaisionally its on sat afternoon if its not pre-emted for sports then is moved to sun afternoon or am depending on the stations whim.......the following that the show has managed to get give kudos to the storyline and attraction of the show.

can you image the following if it is aired on one the big networks during primetime?

Yeah, I think the show has many concepts that I like, such as ancient history.
If I'm honest, I don't watch much sci-fi (other than Voyager and X-files). I'm not really into all that space stuff, but Stargate is based in our own time and therefore (when alien technology isn't involved) our heroes have to solve things based on our knowledge and technology instead of fictional things in the furture.
... did that last sentence make sense? I've never been good at expressing myself!

I watch it for 2 things, one is the wonderful team dynammics and characerizations, and the other is for the fun of imagining gate travel itself.

I'm not a shipper either; I can deal with the UST, that's cool, the occasional lingering glance, but if I wanted to watch a soap, I'd watch a soap. If there is any chance of a movie with the SG1 cast after season 6, I'm betting the bank that we won't see Sam and Jack, or Daniel and Janet, or any other combo (how about Sam and Thor??), 'cause they'd leave it open for a movie.

actually if it aired on a network it'd have died after 3 eps, maybe 6...the nets are horribly unforgiving to sci-fi. none of them have really given it a chance in prime time since battle star galactica (fox doesn't count, they pull such sucky rating most of the time)

unfoirtunately for a net to consider a show a 'hit' they like it to pull about 20 percent of all tv's that are on...so they like 1 in 5 tv's that are on to be watching them to consider it a hit....and with most folks having dozens of channels, that ain't easy.

that is one thing that i hate about network tv, they never give a show enough time to be established before they yank it.

Too true. If X-Files or ST:TNG, ST:DS9, or ST:Voyager had been on one of the big 3, they either never would have aired, or been killed after a few weeks. Even Fox, now, is killing series too soon. Anyone recall Strange Luck, Brimstone, Harsh Realm? It's something of a minor miracle that Dark Angel survived, and mostly because of sex appeal. Roswell is on life-support, but being on UPN paired with Buffy might help it alot.

Which is why I say, thank god for cable. At least we have niche cable channels like SciFi (though for the life of me I just don't understand the "Golf Channel". 24 hours of golf? Give me a break!)

The shippy aspect doesn't bother me, as long as it is only a part of the whole story, but...

I would have rather had ship that 3 dead boyfriends in 10 episodes, that's beyond belief.

And, while I agree that they shouldn't move Carter after her fall, there is such a thing as First Aid, part of that is showing a little concern for your patient.

And, someone would have asked where the Ambassador was. It was as if they knew the story already!!

Kinsey -- I don't understand his attitude unless he is mentally unbalanced and only obsessed with Jack alone. Yet he becomes President in one possible future -- OK, maybe he is mentally unbalanced, maybe you need to be!!

Ok Just seen this one last night.
It did end rather upbruptly, guess they ran out of time for all they wanted to put in!
I'm assuming Joe is dead but I suppose they left it open so fans who like Joe can still consider the possibility of he and Sam marrying etc, And those that dont want that are happy too.
As for the S/J thing, I loved Starghate before all that was introduced and still love it without. But the writers introduced a storyline then abandoned it. Even for non fans of shippyness doesnt this seem a little inconsisitent?
however, i did notice that when Joe asked Sam out Jack kinda rolled his eyes, a hint of disapproval maybe? And his sarcasm increases tenfold to all the characters Sam shows interest in. Maybe this is his way of dealing with it. Straight up jealousy wouldnt be Jacks style I dont think. And I guess he knows that a future for him and Sam is almost impossible so has come to accept she will move on, as will he. He just takes it in his stride, which seems to be his way with most things.
