What Anime and Animation are you currently watching?

I liked Haibane Renmei when I saw it a couple of years ago. The gentle pace and the charming storyline made a lovely change from what I'd been watching prior to that. I must watch it again - thanks for reminding me!:)

You're welcome!

Avatar is awesome. I still haven't seen nearly as much of it as I'd like. I suppose I'm going to have to buy a box set one day...

I think I'll dig out my old VCR again and watch Heroic Legend of Arislan (that really is going back a bit, even by my standards;):)). I just hope the tapes still work!

THAT'S what is was called! I saw several episodes of this on TV (Channel 4's anime season I think) about 13 years ago and could never remember what it was called, so could never find it again.

Let me know if it's still any good. (Mind you, just looking on Wiki suggests it was never finsihed.)

It's pretty good; the storyline wanders a bit at the start, but it gets right into the action later on. The artwork was lovely, if I remember rightly, and I loved the fact that it had a British dub, rather than a US one. Now that you mention it, I think I remember reading that only five episodes were made, but two of them were never released over here. I'll have to check that.

And I have a confession to make: I taped those episodes off the tv, during Channel 4's anime season.;) I can't believe I still have them!:)

Yes, I remember the artwork, and I liked the Middle Eastern flavour. Of course, anything would look good next to Doomed Megalopopolopolis.

Doomed Megalopolis? Now there's a title I haven't heard in a long time! I didn't see it (although I'm wondering if that wasn't a bad thing), although I do remember the other titles Channel 4 showed in their late night anime slot. I think Legend of the Four Kings was my favourite of these, although I can't remember exactly what others were shown.

Speaking of old Manga video releases, I must watch Dominion Tank Police again.:)

I'll have to watch that one again myself - it's been such a long time since I watched any Cowboy Bebop. The movie was excellent.:)

I don't know. I had no idea there was any mention of it. I've actually only seen a few episodes of the series, but got enough introduction to the characters to find it interesting. After seeing the movie, given the chance, I will definitely try to watch the series.

I had heard something about a live action version of Blood+, but that was some time ago and I haven't heard anything since.

Unfortunately, I'm not too keen on live action versions, since they often don't hold the same appeal for me as the anime. I watched the live action movie Shrill Cries of Summer (Higurashi) a few month ago and was actually disappointed with it. It just didn't have the same flair, the same power to entrall me as When the Cicadas Cry. On the other hand, the same style of movie making seemed to work rather well for Death Note, but that's another story.

I agree about live action versions of anime - possibly the best I've seen was Death Note (not that I've seen that many, only heard about them - DN being the exception).

The live action Cowboy Bebop, though... I'm not sure about what the current status is, but BookStop started a thread for it a while ago, and there might be a bit more information on it in the link there.

So it seems. I'm of the same opinion, although part of me hopes it turns out well. I don't think it'll measure up to the anime, though.

Ooh, while not technically anime, but certainly appeals to me in a very similar fashion, has anyone seen the ads for M. Night Shyalaman's The Last Airbender? That's a live action I'll definitely be looking forward to.

I've just watched the trailer, and was all ready to dismiss it as a disaster in waiting. However, to the surprise of my cynical self, it looks like it might be pretty good. Is this a one-off, though, or one of a series? How much of the story will it cover?

Good question. I'll have to look it up. So far, my only introduction to it is a poster at the movie theatre.

EDIT: Oh, well ... I can't seem to find anything about subsequent films, so it might be a stand-alone. But the trailer seems to suggest the film only covers Book One, so maybe we'll get lucky.

Okay, I know this is a double-post, but the last one looks a lot like a hijack anyway, so I apologize for both transgressions and now add something that's actually relevant to the thread.

I started watching Cowboy Bepop: The Perfect Sessions. So far I've only had time to see four episodes. They're pretty good, though, and I hope to see more soon.

Ah, memories: I dug out my old Legend of the Four Kings videos, and I've started to watch them. It's been ages since I've seen them, and even though the animation looks dated and not really up to the modern standard, they're still enjoyable after all this time.
