Favourite characters?

How could anyone like littlefinger?? or sansa for that matter??? there are truly some awesome characters generated by martin, but those two gotta be the worst ever. but the hag sister at the eyrie takes the cake. oh i hate that stupid kid and his fat mom! vargo hoat sucks too.

and what's up with not developing the tyrells? oldtown, the heart of knowledge and history of the seven kingdoms there in the southwest, but little to nothing on the house that rules there. maybe some of the next 1300 will go towards that, but knowing martin, probably not.

my top ten favourite characters who live:
10. Bran - he flies from walls, bounces, and owns any animal he wants.
9. Shagga son of Timmett - he now has steel weapons
8. Elia Sand - [line removed]
7. Dondarrian - dead man walking! ANGRY!!!
6. Red Viper - unforgettable fight scene!
5. Eddard - he's so honorable, it's bad!
4. Hodor - enough said
3. Dany - hottie with great storyline; owns multiple dragons and a nice horse!
2. Tyrion - hands down quality taunter
1. Shaggydog - just kidding! i meant to write Arya Stark, clearly the best character ever!
MAN!, I can't believe you just said [that]. No way! I refuse to have read that!

OBTW, In reality ALL the characters are written well. Just the fact that you can't stand Sansa proves she was written well. I really don't think that GRRM wrote her that way for you to like?!

Ned Stark is my favorite character. However, I liked Theon Greyjoy a tremendous amount. I feel this character is underappreciated by fans, his family and the Starks alike. After seeing your opinions on the Hound and Jaime, I would like to know what you all think about Theon. I am hoping to see more of him in Feast.

I, personally, think Theon is weak (a well written character though). He is weak in that he doesn't stand up for anything and submits to his father. He only takes what appears to be easy to him at the moment. He is just weak imo. I don't picture Theon doing to much in the foreseeable future though I did when the books started.

welcome zuriz!
I cannot bear Theon... the Hound is a tortured character, but u see the human being in his with Sansa, and a bit with Arya. Besides, he finally kill the tickler and polliver, and that moment is priceless.
With Jaime,I know the first time we know him ("the things I do for love")sounds terrible, but oh, please, you read ASOS, his relation with Brienne, his feelings about Cersei and all this secretism... and how it ends with Tyrion! And he is clever, not as Theon.
Theon goes back to the Iron islands believing he is the rightful king and treating "his" folk as bad as he can. And I was very sad with the poor daughter of the ship captain that brings him home... Asha is really a good character, that ride to the castle was so cool!

Hi Zuriz, and welcome to the chronicles network. :)

As for Theon - only read up to book 2, but he never struck as a character with any real purpose - for someone brought up with the Starks, he seemed someone closed-minded and spoilt. Very well written though - the scenes on the Iron Lands were great, if completely irrelevant. :)

Ned Stark remains one of the absolute towers of the series, though - we do so love characters with their dilemnas of personal vs public duties. :)

Theon...a spoilt brat with a hell of a chip on his shoulder...
Which sort of makes him a prime target for 'jump first, then look down and realise you needed a parachute' syndrome...He seriously has a problem in his lack of thinking ahead...

He and Davos are the only two characters who have begun to bore me so far...up to the point that when I'm re-reading the books, I skip their chapters, as I know what happens, just don't see the need to read them again

I really liked reading the Jon Snow chapters because he was always being confronted with some kind of emotional or physical problem. Tyrion was fantastic, especially his crossbow skills:D . Tyrion was very manipulative and could have secured kings landing if everyone wasn't working against him. When he lead a charge out of the red keep against Renly's army i was cheering him on. I wan't a big fan of Davos or Sansa mostly because they seem to be very restricted in what they can do, Davos by his oath to Stannis, and Sansa with her "armor of courtesy. Someone also asked before if Stannis is Azhure'azzi (sp?) reborn. I'm pretty sure by now that Danny is that reincarnation.

You are absolutely right Brian, Ned Stark is such a marvellously drawn character. I went fricking ape when he was.... you know. I don't like to talk about it. :)

How can you possibly talk about a series you haven't even read? Get out of this forum. Anyone who can put down Martin must truly be a non-athlete

Everyone knew Ned had to die. He should have been allowed to take the black, yes, but no other fitting end to Ned would do. He is still the champ.

What a shocker on Robb though. I never saw it coming. Re-reading the novels you can totally see Martin's leads, but first time through, no way!

As for Theon Turncloak, I think he has a role yet to play in ASoIaF. He will be flayed but he'll come back strong.

What about Barristan the Bold? Any takers on the old man for a favourite to win back the iron throne for his new liege???

And how do you feel about Arya? No one's really given much praise to her creation and development as a character. I love Arya.

Mate he owns the site, if he leaves we all leave. :)

Although I agree with your sentiment, you have to let the small minority who are not Martin fans have their mutterings.

Dude, he owns it? My bad. I shouldn't offend owners.

Not a smart move, but I am sure I have offended him on a number of occasions. :)

There is really no battles to be fought in the Martin thread, we outnumber the non-believers ten to one. You can not touch perfection. I think the Sci-fi loving peoples are at odds with all the great exposure fantasy is currently getting.
