What comic books/graphic novels are you reading at the moment?

Well having the tablet has certainly helped my reading of comics. I've just read the complete Dark Angel storyline in The Uncanny X-Force, which took me to the point I decided to stop buying it.

Ironically it has to be said that this was probably one of the best X-stories I have read in years, giving all they used to give. Strongly written, good story, good characterisation, stunning art (reminded me of some classic British stuff - John Ridgway?).

Writer Rick Remender did a brilliant job of side-lining Wolverine and using the other characters, and twists you one way and then another as he closes the story down with the final issue of the arc, and just when he has stopped pulling your emotions first one way and then the other, he gives you those last three words...

Almost enough to make me start reading the X-Titles again.

Jason Aaron writing Wolverine is the only reason i can go near the messy world X-men these days. I have ever only been fan of X-Factor with Peter David, old Claremont Wolverine series.

I started reading One Piece recently. It's kinda funny with Luffy's general 'carefree' attitude.

His abilities are pretty cool too (he became a boy made of rubber).

That's one of the reasons I stopped (just catching up on the reading to the point where I stopped - if that make's any sense at all!), and on top of that no matter how good the writer is, it is just repeating itself now.

I have read the first 35 volumes of One Piece when i collected the series in swedish translated volumes. I just bought vol 36 after 5,6 years of not reading the series but i cant remember where the story was, where the manga started heh.

I have to refresh my memory of the first volumes. I rated it as one of the best shonen mangas, Luffy attitude is a big reason of that.

Re-reading (for the umpteenth time) Miracleman. Just started Book Three.

Ex Machina, big series, so far so good.
Powers, always finding niche approaches in Super Hero story telling.
Ellis's Planetary, a modern day League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Ocean is a good quick.
Gotham Central, not about Batman, but when he's there, he's badass (excuse americanism.) Joker is very good, but most impressive is the non freak that is Corrigan as a badguy.
And lastly The Boys, though stupidly named, a bit of a free-for-all anti-super hero series (I haven't read them all.) very funny in places, and like Powers, finds new areas of the genre to play with- from a starting point of civilians against power types. (yes they have some powers too, but their methods always begin with CIA/FBI tactics.) underground hero-bashing, very fun. maybe fans of Fight Club would like it.

oh, and I realise that these have all been mentioned in this incredibly long thread. But thought worth reminding. some great suggestions coming in.

I am extremely new to reading any sort of graphic novels. I have read the three current hardcover collections being release of the original Eastman and Laird , Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I loved them. TMNT was the best thing to me as a young boy and 20+ years later I have renewed my appreciation by reading these stories.

Back in the late 80's early 90's I had no access to these so I never had the chance to read them. Definetly not the Archie comic versions.

And I am smack dab in the middle of Jeff Smith's Bone series right now. Now that is a fat 1300+ page graphic novel. And being a huge Fantasy fan this is right up my alley. It is for a younger audience but I can appreciate it.

Perp, if you see this...I just read your Top 10 of all time and might have to give a try to a few of them. Thanks for sharing.

Eesh, I've been tempted by even more comics now. So as well as getting Batwoman (the #0 for September was brilliant. Really one of the best characters in comics at the moment), Birds of Prey and Before Watchmen, I also decided to pick up the starting issue of Team 7, because I like Black Canary -- but I don't know if I'm going to carry on with it.

And I also got Wonder Woman's issue #0 this week -- seeing as it's a one off and it let's me dabble in the comic. But uugggh, the art is so awesome and Chiang draws Wonder Woman so brilliantly that I may just have to start buying this every month too, now.

But I've dropped Batman for the meantime so it's all right. I know there's the whole Death of the Family with the new faceless Joker coming up, but I'll probably just follow that through what other people post and say.

Anyway, I've also made the move over to Marvel for the first time. I'm getting Captain Marvel, the new Carol Danvers series and again the art is just stunning. And there are some beautiful full page pictures of her looking totally BAMF and kickass. Love it. And Spiderman cracks me up.

It's mostly Before Watchmen that's chiselling at my monies, seeing as it comes out every week. And will do until January! Didn't realise they'd be so many. But I am loving (most of) them and the artists have been so well chosen.

Started on Uncanny X-Men V2 today...not bad...not bad. Haven't read comics in forever so some mutant rampaging is ok in my book right now.

With the massive pile of comics growing to the point of ridiculousness I've decided to claw back through it and try and get it down to reasonable proportions. As things stand it seems to be about three years worth of comics...

I've had a crack at Jennifer Blood (Garth Ennis) and the spin off Ninjettes. Both good reads, some fun and rudeness ;)

Then read 25 issues of the Dynamite adaptation of Robert Jordan's The Eye of the World, it seemed a bit hard going to start with but soon found it's flow, and reminded me why I enjoyed the earlier WoT books so much.

I've managed toe first story arc of Buffy Season 9 - I'm not sure as though it was as much fun as Season 8, but it's okay; and the sister title Angel and Faith, which turned out to be a superb read so far.

Currently I'm reading the Fables spin-off Fairest, which has been magnificent.

I've just finished the first 6 part storyline in Fairest and thought it was superb. Hardly surprised as it was written by Fables creator Bill Willingham with art by Phil Jiminez.

The next issue was a stand alone story that featured Beast (from Beauty and the) St. George and a Lamia, a bit of fun, but somehow I'm not sure I enjoyed it as much - cracking last panel though!

I'm now starting on the first 10 issues of the adaptation of George R R Martin's Game of Thrones. It'll be interesting to see how this compares to The Wheel of Time adaptation

I devoured yesterday the gorgeous GN Richard Stark's The Score by the original Darwyn Cooke.

I adore Cooke respectful faithful adaptation that still had much new to the great heist noir books by Richard Stark. Parker comics in orange toned art is just too good.

My two favourite reads are long term commitments:
'Blade of the Immortal' is a good series, (black and white so not for everyone) it's by dark horse and has to be in my top ten favourite titles, perhaps even number one. That said No 26 isn't out till March2013 and its been a good few years reading since they first started the run.
'Chinese Hero' by Wing Shing Ma is (i think) his most recent series and although his older stuff is out of print and hard to get hold of I consider it quite fun hunting missing issues down and adding them to my collection.
More recently I found 'the boys' to be quite entertaining and a little different than the norm.

i'm American Vampire vol#1, new to the series and i'm loving it. good to see a real vampire story. also working my way through Hellboy. up to vol#4: right hand of doom

Have now caught up with the excellent adaptation of A Game of Thrones (as far as issue 10) and will probably work my way through Kick Ass 2 by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.

Started on Uncanny X-Men V2 today...not bad...not bad. Haven't read comics in forever so some mutant rampaging is ok in my book right now.

I've got these sitting on my too read pile, and have no idea when I will get to them. Are they any good?

Just finished Kick Ass 2 and think I'll take a little break from the Too Read, Catch up pile and go and read a chapter of my book....
