ADwD POV's.

Like being not wordy enough is a typical problem for Boaz......

Thats like saying Stannis needs to "find some discipline"

or Cersei needs to "get her bitch on"

or....well you get the idea...
ROFLMAO!

Everyone in the room is looking at me... they think I'm having a conip... connipti... kuhnippshyu... a fit. No need to let them in on the joke, they'd just join in.

True, TK, and thats why i admire Doran Martell, but i want some spectacular:D fire, as it were.

Oh yes, that woman in the video pronounced Jaime as 'Jamie'!
She should be hung, drawn and quartered!

'Jamie' is the pronounciation that George uses, so that's actually the right way of saying it.

Oh, gods. I'm not sure I can keep reading the series now I know that one the main characters could fit effortlessly into a boy band, pretentiously spelt common name and all that. Blergh.

Huh...not for a second did I ever think 'Jaime' was pronounced any other way but 'Jamie'. Is the alternative pronounced like 'James' without the 's'?

I was about to take Culwhch to task for twice using the word 'spelt'-but I looked in the dictionary and found out that it is actually a word (primarily used by Brits as the past of spell.) I was taught to use 'spelled' and that 'spelt' was incorrect.

Back to topic: Does anyone else think that Quentyn's POV will be the most revealing POV to date? Assuming he was privy to his father's plans no other character knows more about the central intrigues other than the people who will defininately not have POV's (L.F., Varys, Howland, etc.) ADWD cannot come out soon enough!

I pronounced it Himee.

Well, not really.

Here's to hoping so, it certainly has the potential.

Interesting, it's usually the Americans shortening words, not making them longer. I guess 'spelt' must be a little confusing when all other past-tense words (besides 'dreamt') end in '-ed'. But while we're on spelling, it's 'Culhwch'... [grins]

Yeah, I've always pronounced it as it's spelt, like James without the 's'. It seemed a whole lot more aristocratic to me than Jay-mee, which sounds like something Britney Spears would name her kid. I reiterate, blergh...

Bizarre. 'Jamie' is a name (of primarily Scottish origin, I believe) that goes back centuries. The first fictional character I ever encountered called Jamie was a Highlander warrior who fought at the Battle of Culloden and kicked some serious arse before being dragged away for adventures in time and space by a bedraggled old geezer traversing the multiverse in a telephone box ( ;) ), so I had no problem attaching the name to a skilled swordsman.

'Spelt' is an English term, whilst 'spelled' is also correct, I believe. However, in American 'spelt' is generally regarded as incorrect. I have no idea why. It's not quite as weird as the way we say 'sceptical' and the Americans say 'skeptical' (which just looks wrong).

In the defence of all the Jamie, Jaime of the world and poor little Britney who's having a hard time staying in rehab, blergh yourself :D

have to say i alway pronounces Jaime as jay-mee... i mean not for a second did i consider Jaime to be pronounced Jame (why anyone would i cannot comprehend...) or even Hai-Mee as it is in Spanish.

Also, Cul, how does Jame sound more aristocratic than Jamie? I realise that its a matter of subjective perspective, but...come on...talk about a blergh name.
It only makes sense that its Jaime (as of course Jaime is recognised as the alternate spelling of Jamie - though usually when used for a female name) is pronounced Jay-mee, his twin sister is named Cersei (pronounced Ser-Sea as far as i pronounce it) after all.

Wait, you don't pronounce it 'Sirse'? Just kidding... Actually, I pronounce it Sir-say [prepares to flamed again] so it wouldn't match, regardless.

It is purely subjective, I'll admit. Possibly because most 'Jamie's I've come across are either a) girls, b) effeminate guys, or c) bogans. Jaime is none of those (well, maybe a little bit b)). And none of those seem particularly aristocratic (except, again, maybe b)).

And I pronounced it Jaime (as I'm guessing millions did... Centurion for one) because, well, that's how it's spelt, simple as that. It doesn't make sense to me to say it 'Jamie'. [shudders involuntarily]

Plus it sounds better. Say it aloud to yourself. 'Jaime. Jaime.' Tell me you don't like it....

" 'Jaime. Jaime.' Tell me you don't like it.... " isn't that what Cersie( Ser- Sea) said????:p  :D

My Axe.............quickly!

Jamie, however, is not spelt 'Jaime'. So I never thought it was pronounced that way either. But then, GRRM thinks 'Brienne' is pronounced Bree-ehn-ee. So what does he know?

(Actually, I'm slightly serious about the last point - GRRM's attitude is that it doesn't matter how you pronounce the names, whatever works for you is just as 'right' as how he pronounces it.)

I still remember being hauled over the coals by some ignorant Yank at Ran's who thought I'd spelt 'sceptical' wrong. That was hilarious. :D

LOL!!!!!!!! Yes, that's certainly what she said and will make great TV on HBO.

I think the pronunciation of the character names was hatched out in the attached thread:
http://www.chronicles-network.com/forum/4560-character-name-pronunciations.html

Do we seriously have a thread about everything ever to have anything to do with this series? My hat is off to those forum-goers what went before me for covering this and other much needed topics

Now back to an earlier portion of this thread....I dont think the Martell scion will make a revealing POV. Like Tywin has Jaime (pronounce Jay-me in my head thank you very much) and Euron has Victarion and Robert has his flagon, wench and the Boar that gutted him, only so much of the larger House plan has been revealed to the minions....

I think the revealing one would have Kevan Lannister, or Blackfish....guys that were privy once but are now left to make use of what they know.

So can we change it to a Brynden chapter....pretty please?

Aegon, maybe I'm over thinking a bit, but I do not believe we will see another northern POV until a Time for Wolves (if that is a correct title) (that coupled with what GRRM said regarding Q.Martell, which obviously is the end all). With all the Starks presumed dead or missing, and Winterfell in dissarray, I think it will take one of the Starks to publicly reimmerge for that to happen.

Having said that, I do believe the Starks will eventually regain Winterfell. I also believe that Winterfell as a location will be a major player with events North of the wall.

Oh speculation.....I'd much rather take a month off of posting to read Dance, err or study it so to speak. :)
