ADwD POV's.

Yes, I'm sorry Culhwch, I have not been concise lately.

But I can imagine in a Time for Wolves a Blackfish POV.

Actually GRRM has dropped A Time for Wolves as a title. The last 2 books after ADWD will be:

The Winds of Winter
A Dream of Spring

And GRRM has also said that the new POV in ADWD will be the last new POV introduced in ASOIF. So you are SOL on a Blackfish POV, bub.

Ahh I was just kidding anyhow....'sides even George knows a Blackfish POV would cause the manuscript to implode from sheer awesomeness!!!!omgfordfocus!!!!!

Ford Focus! Isn't the Focus an updated Aspire? What a name for a car... is it the car that aspires or the owner? I aspire to be a car! or I aspire to actually own a car someday, I'm just driving this in the meantime. Wait, focus. Focus. Focus. Stay on topic.

Jamie is supposed to rhyme with maim? No, that's lame. I'm with Aegon on this one. Jamie rhymes with Amy. It makes him sound more effeminate, more boyish, more carefree, more of an anomaly... the only reason Westros accepts him is because of his family name.

Brienne is supposed to rhyme with Vienna? No. Brienne rhymes with peein', as in Don't bother me when I'm peein'.

What are you guys gonna tell me next... that Ned is pronounced Tom?

What was the topic of this thread anyway? ADWD POVs. Got it.

I still want a Hodor POV. You know he might be more than he appears. He might be one of Varys' disguises. Ack. Hodor=Varys. Think about it, they never actually appear at the same time...

Ew, Boaz, 'peein'? What the hell did you do with the 'i' after the r in her name?
Are you one of 'those people' who turns 'a' into an 'i' when you pronounce it? Cos I hate it when people do that to my name - grrrr.
;)

Well, GRRM pronounces it Bree-ehn-ee not Bree-ehn-ah, which is even worse. (And sorry, Funky, he does pronounce that first 'i' as 'ee'. ;))

Actually Boaz, George discussed a Hodor PoV at one his booksignings. Let me find my notes....

Okay this isnt verbatim, but its what I scribbled down as he spoke.

"Hodor Hodor Hodor, in the Hodor Hodor Hodor. With the Hodor Hodor Hodor was Hodor Hodor to Hodor the Hodor Hodor. "Ha Hodor Ha Hodor" said Hodor to the Hodor Hodor. Why was Hodor Hodoring the Hodor Hodor? It Hodor Hodor Hodor the Hodor Hodor. Hodoriffic!!!"

Enjoy.

(Oh and all the above is a joke, I never went to a book signing...and odds are good George never said anything like this)

Aegon, you kill me. And I'm soooo glad you explained the joke...

Sorry, my ideal pronunciation of peein' is pee ehn like we said in Tennessee when I was a kid.

My sincere apologies to the OP.

I want to add an amen to TKs point above...this is bordering on crazy-people speak (myself included) with the prononunciation guides and the general lack of new insane theories. Heck at this point I would accept rehashing an old argument for the sake of kindling some discussion. So anyone want to tell me why Danny isnt the George W Bush of Martins world? Or discuss Stannis' capabilities of leading men? Or try to convince me Jon broke his vows in letter and in spirit? Seriously Im up for anything about now...

Im gonna go read the world affairs section and try not insult people with my right-wing fascist ideas.....

I wouldn't joke about that if i were you mate! If George ever gets to the pount where he just can't be arsed anymore, the final book will probably reveal that Hodor really is TPWWP and be told entirely from his POV ;)

And you know you'd still buy it!

If u are bored try to find some not important connections. They are stuff that insane theories are made off. Like have you noticed that Reyland Vesterling deathe is not confirmed? or something like that... I wish that ADWD is out.

Are you one of those people who forgot the proper use of "because". ;)

ADWD anyday now please, BECAUSE this is depressing...:p

Nah, I just have lazy fingers. It's terrible, I know.

OK....new stuff to discuss...umm...Does anyone think GRRM's stuff could ever be seen as a 'classic' of our time in years to come? Or is fantasy always going to be seen as rather low brow (excepting Tolkien, probably)?

And does anyone know if there is any GRRM fan-fic out there? If there was, would you read it?

This one is for Aegon - can anyone think of a good use for Dany's dragons in peacetime? I thought that maybe the Others might be such a long term threat that she'd need them all to constantly be beating back the hordes long after the human population of Westeros has surrendered to her (if they surrender). I know this is dependent on her getting there and her dragons surviving a few battles and so forth. Apologies if anyone has floated this one before.

GRRM expressly forbids any kind of fanfic whatsoever based on his books. Any site that indulges in it will get trodden on and the reputable ASoIaF boards will refuse to link to them. This has caused some headaches in other areas - such as the Game of Thrones: Total War computer game mod that's underway which is having to tread very carefully around this factor - but GRRM's attitude is that writing fanfic is a bad habit to get into. He thinks writers should develop their own settings, ideas and characters rather than use other people's.

Amen to that.

Amen to that.

Hmmm...whilst I can understand a writer's reluctance to see other, less capable authors take their characters and concepts and write inferior fiction with them, I think it will be nigh on impossible to stop net fan-fic appearing after the TV series. In fact, there's not many TV series that haven't spawned some kind of online fan fiction, even series that ended before the net was invented.
But by that time, hopefully, the last book will be out and GRRM will be working on some new and wonderful creation!
