The Revived Tolkien Trivia

Thankee-sai...
From what were the replacement gates of Minas Tirith made?...and what was the title of their maker?

LOTR appx A , Durin's folk

Spot on. KMQ - Have a leucodermatous bell, and set your question....

Thanks for the bell, I think.

Ok, a nice easy one for Monday moring to ease us into the week.

Whose 'Blood runs chill' and why?

'My blood runs chill,' said Gimli, but the others were silent, and his voice fell dead on the dank fir-needles at his feet.
The Lord of the Rings, The Return of the King V, Ch. II The Passing of the Grey Company.

Gimli's blood runs chill because he's about to enter the Paths of the Dead under the Dwimorberg.

I hope the next question I answer correct will get me a pair of them funny tingly shoes :D

Where lie the grey ships?

Me? No, not at all....

Grey ships...The only mention I can think of is in Legolas's song....

To the Sea, to the Sea! The white gulls are crying,
The wind is blowing, and the white foam is flying.
West, west away, the round sun is falling.
Grey ship, grey ship, do you hear them calling,
The voices of my people that have gone before me?
I will leave, I will leave the woods that bore me;
For our days are ending and our years falling.
I will pass the wide waters lonely sailing.
Long are the waves on the Last Shore falling,
Sweet are the voices in the Lost Isle calling,
In Eressëa, in Elvenhome that no man can discover,
Where the leaves fall not: land of my people for ever!
RotK - Book VI - Chapter IV - The Field of Cormallen

So they'd be lying at Mithlond - the Grey Havens...

Easier would have been:

...and Elendil's Stone was on the Tower Hills that look towards Mithlond in the Gulf of Lune where the grey ships lie.
The Lord of the Rings, The Two Towers, III, Ch. XI The Palantir

However, correct is correct :D

Master Samwise got a bit carried away:

Before Frodo could stop him, he sat down, swung his legs over the brink, and twisted round, scrabbling with his toes for a foothold. It is doubtful if he ever did anything braver in cold blood, or more unwise.
'No, no! Sam, you old ass!' said Frodo. 'You'll kill yourself for certain going over like that without even a look to see what to make for. Come back!'

The Lord of the Rings, The Two Towers (IV), Ch. I, The Taming of Sméagol

Thank you kindly:

Mountains loomed dark in the distance against a pale sky. A long grey road wound back out of sight. Far away a figure came slowly down the road, faint and small at first, but growing larger and clearer as it approached.
Who was this figure?

Mountains loomed dark in the distance against a pale sky. A long grey road wound back out of sight. Far away a figure came slowly down the road, faint and small at first, but growing larger and clearer as it approached.Suddenly Frodo realized that it reminded of Gandalf........The head was so bowed that he could see no face.......Doubt came into Frodo's mind: was this a vision of Galdalf on one of his many lonely journeys long ago, or was it Saruman?
FotR - Book II - Chapter VII - The Mirror of Galadriel

We never actually find out; we don't actually know yet that Gandalf has been reincarnated as the White, and the description could fit either him or Saruman.

And that's precisely the answer I was seeking.

One bell for you, Master!

I think it was Éowyn wasn't it

"But in the morning, as Faramir came from the Houses, he saw her, as she stood upon the walls; and she was clad all in white, and gleamed in the sun. And he called to her, and she came down, and they walked on the grass or sat under a green tree together, now in silence, now in speech. And each day after they did likewise."

You're right, Morrigu, but if I could have the book, chapter number, title of chapter, etc?
We had problems with the old Trivia thread, not least with people just googling the question, so this one was started with very specific rules, in post #1.
Sorry to sound so pendantic, but....:D

Thats quite alright Pyan.

It is in Lord of the Rings, Part 3 Return of the King, Book 6 chapter 5 "The Steward and the King" in my copy of the book which is the one with the movie cover on it it can be found on page 287 if that is specific enough, if not I could probably count the paragraphs for you :D
