The Revived Tolkien Trivia

As long as no-one whinges about it......

Who or what is the representation of "Lore"?

Well, it depends on what you mean with "Lore" really. I thought of several answers, but it could very well be that you're looking for something completely different. Here's two answers anyway...

Thus it was that Men called King Felagund, whom they met first of all the Eldar, Nom, that is Wisdom, in the language of that people, and after him they named his folk Nomin, the Wise.
The Silmarillion, Quenta Silmarillion, Ch. 17: Of The Coming Of Men Into The West

Also:

This word was derived from the same ancient stem ngol- that appears in Noldor, cf. Quenya nole 'long study, lore, knowledge,'
The Silmarillion Appendix, Elements in Quenya and Sindarin Names

Next try:
'Alas for the weakness of the great! For a mighty king is Gil-galad and wise in all lore is Master Elrond, and yet they will not aid me in my labours'
The Silmarillion, Of The Rings Of Power And The Third Age

Not really what I was looking for....there is a specific phrase:

"###### symbolises throughout the ancient wisdom and ### ##### represents Lore"

Ah of course! Silly me

Elrond symbolises throughout the ancient wisdom, and his House represents Lore.

And:

Elrond the Half-elven, son of Earendil, maintains a kind of enchanted sanctuary at Imladris...

That's the one, Marky!:)
Please accept a silver-gilt bell, and bring on the next one....:D

Thank you, Pyan...

I'd like you to provide me with four persons/things that had the title 'The White.' (I mean literally The White here and not, for example, Telperion the White Tree).

Ok, I'll admit to being a bit stumped here. I can think of quite a few that you won't allow ( White Mountains, White Council etc) but just The White.....I come up short:(

Much as I hate to admit it, I'm the same - I've got two, (Saruman and Gandalf), but that's it. There's lots of white things, (KMQ's list, plus Hand, Tower, Ship, snows of Mindolluin, etc, ) but no more with the title "The White" as such....

The two easy ones:

‘Behold, I am not Gandalf the Grey, whom you betrayed. I am Gandalf the White, who has returned from the death.’
The Voice of Saruman

‘I could only watch and wait. I might perhaps have consulted Saruman the White, but something always held me back.’
The Shadow of the Past

The two others... How about a hint?

Hint for the first: Gimli
Hint for the second: Fingolfin

[SIZE=-1]The sons of Fingolfin were Fingon.....and their sister was Aredhel the White.

Silmarillion, Of Eldamar

I always thought she was the White Lady of Gondolin, not just the white. Ah well.

Still cogitating on the Gimli one. Gods this is annoying me now! Grrrrr.

Of course, if it's in Letters, I'm stuffed, but let's hope Father Christmas comes through for me

Got it!
'There is the land where our fathers worked of old, and we have wrought the image of those mountains into many works of metal and of stone, and into many songs and tales. They stand tall in our dreams: Baraz, Zirak, Shathûr.
'Only once before have I seen them from afar in waking life, but I know them and their names, for under them lies Khazad-Dûm, the Dwarrowdelf, that is now called the Black Pit, Moria in the Elvish tongue. Yonder stands Barazinbar, the Redhorn, cruel Caradhras; and beyond him are Silvertine and Cloudyhead: Celebdil the White and Fanuidhol the Grey, that we call Zirakzigil and Bundushathûr.'
Gimli is naming the peaks of the Misty Mountains to Pippin and the rest of the Walkers.

Two from Marky, one each from KMQ and me...who's to go?
I reckon Mr Lazer should go again....:D

Well, if it's ok with KMQ as well...

A nice easy one...what were the heirlooms of Arnor?

After Arvedui the North-kingdom ended, for the Dunedain were now few and all the peoples of Eriador diminished. Yet the line of the kings was continued by the Cheiftains of the Dunedain, of whom Aranarth son of Arvedui was the first. Arahael his son was fostered in Rivendell, and so were all the sons of the cheiftans after him; and there also were kept the heirlooms of the house: the ring of Barahir, the shards of Narsil, the star of Elindil, and the sceptre of Annuminas.
