The Revived Tolkien Trivia

Apologies, Clansman, for anticipating your confirmation, but I'll second that..there can't be any other answer I can see.

Take it as correct please, Marky, and set us a question...

Sorry for my absenteeism. That is precisely what I was looking for. And yes, it was too easy.

Yes, sorry to usurp your confirmation, but there have been times when the thread has stuck because of people not being able to confirm an answer - if there had been any ambiguity in the solution, we would have left it a bit longer.

Incidently, ordinary squirrel is delicious...must be just the Mirkwood variety that tastes bad....:D

Down on the Road, in Bree:

"Down on the Road, where it swept to the right to go round the foot of the hill, there was a large inn...The Inn of Bree was still there, however..."

FotR, Chapter 10: At the Sign of the Prancing Pony", pp. 162-3.

The only other inn I know of is the Green Dragon:

"The conversation in The Green Dragon at Bywater, one evening in the spring of Frodo's fiftieth year, showed that even in the comfortable heart of the Shire rumours had been heard, though most hobbits still laughed at them." FotR, Chapter 2, The Shadow of the Past, p. 53.

Are there any others, or am I being completely daft?

Well, there's the Floating Log, in Frogmorton(1): the Golden Perch in Stock, north of Bucklebury(2), said by Pippin to serve the best beer in the Eastfarthing: the Ivy Bush, located on the Bywater Road(3): and the Bridge Inn, on the west side of the Brandywine Bridge(4). These are all in the Shire.
Then there's the Forsaken Inn, a day's ride east of Bree(5), and lastly, The Old Guesthouse in Minas Tirith(6), where Pippin met Bergil.

The Prancing Pony, in Bree...but I think that's the one Clansman mentioned...the Inn of Bree is another name for it.

Never Mind, I was looking for, "... beneath an old, grey hill,"

FOTR "At the Sign of the Prancing Pony," Frodo's song pp174-6. (Guild Publishing single volume.)

Maybe someone else should set the questions.

Sorry, I should have said that, but I was being legalistic about its name.

And I stand in awe of Pyan's incredible knowledge of the Inns of Middle Earth.

Time for a re-read.

So am I correct, or what?

Oh, I AM daft!! Our posts were too close. The "Hey diddle, diddle" should have been a great clue for me, but I missed it! The Ostler and his cat and the laughing dog.

Just a hint, try and set some context. And the name of the song is "The Man in the Moon Stayed Up too Late" (credit Teresa E for correcting me in another thread).

Okay, I guess I was swept in under the back door, so hear goes:

Where is there a different green?

I think Ace was looking for the inn in the song...which is just called "the inn"..so really, everyone is wrong, and it's Ace to go again.:p

Edit..whoops, overtaken by events,so please ignore this post....
