The Revived Tolkien Trivia

No, no, no, it's grief that's been lulled to sleep, not all of you! Come now, surely an intrepid soul among the lot has something....

*Hears the expected response "Don't flatter yourself, and don't call us "Shirley"!*

*Wonders with trepidation if Cece's pooch has graduated to audiobooks yet*

*Looks around* No other takers? OK, then...

It's Melian trying to warn Thingol, who reckons he knows better......

But Melian said: "Truly for these causes they came; but for others also. Beware of the sons of Fëanor! The shadow of the wrath of the Valar lies upon them; and they have done evil, I perceive, both in Aman and to their own kin. A grief but lulled to sleep lies between the princes of the Noldor."
And Thingol answered: "What is that to me? Of Fëanor I have heard but report, which makes him great indeed. Of his sons I hear little to my pleasure; yet they are likely to prove the deadliest foes of our foe."
"Their swords and their counsels shall have two edges," said Melian...

Silmarillion - Quenta Silmarillion - Chapter 15 - Of the Noldor in Beleriand

And yet, Thingol ultimately was slain by dwarves....go figure.

Ting!

A sleeping, grievous bell to the Green One, and the floor, as well....

Thank you, Grim One....

Hokay...a nice easy one.

Who first founded Minas Tirith?

And a bell for the Grandmaster, who didn't mention Anárion...:p

Go, Marky, go...

Okay, I'm ill so if this question don't make sense, that's my defense.

In what season did the Eldar increase?

"Life teemed upon the soil and in the waters in the Second Spring of Arda, and the Eldar increased ..."

Silmarillion, ch12: "Of Men"

So they got two springs and we didn't even get a summer this year. I call that mighty unfair.

Well, it's been two days now I've been sat in this field waiting for someone to bring me an answer, and all I've had is a cow come and poo on my head.

Having not played this for long, should I be giving a clue without being asked?

A bit early yet, HB - give them a little longer...:)

*tumbleweed*

OK, here's a little clue.

Who wanted a stout drink?

(Marky, with your avatar you should get this)

My monosynaptic brain understood what you meant, HB, but I can't think of any reference to stout...

The name "stout" is pretty much interchangeable with another name for dark beer.

In this case, given the drinkers, "stout" is perhaps more appropriate.

Do you mean porter? That, to me, is not synonymous with stout, as the two, though coloured similarly, are not at all the same. Stout is much heavier, and I know of no instance of "porter" in Tolkien.

Perhaps you refer to a dark ale? Ale might get us somewhere with the quote, but ale is certainly not stout, nor is stout ale. Stout is stout, and that is that.

Sorry to be pedantic, but as my screen name suggests, I am quite well-versed in the results of the fermentation of barley and various kinds of hopps.

It is obviously hobbits that are wanting the drink, as they are well known to be stout. It is more likely that they are looking for ale, though?
