The Revived Tolkien Trivia

Ohhh, bell. Precious, precious bell.

I don't know if this was asked before but:

Who's cats can find their way home in a blind night?

Queen Beruthiel.

Aragorn reassures the Company as they travel through Moria with tales of the resourcefulness of Gandalf:
'Do not be afraid! I have been with him on many a journey, if never on one so dark; ... He is surer of finding the way home in a blind night than the cats of Queen Beruthiel.'

FotR - Book 2 - Chapter IV - A Journey in the Dark

Ding dong, the witch is dead.

The bell goes to pyan, oh great tentacled one.

I thank you!:)

Now: many swords carry names in the tales of JRRT - can you give me the name of a bow?

Yes I can. But why? Are we running out of tough question, kind green... ehm... sir... ish.... entity?

...and together they laid Beleg in a shallow grave, and placed beside him Belthronding his great bow, that was made of black yew-wood.
Quenta Silmarillion, Ch. 21 Of Túrin Turambar

Man, I go away for 2 days and the place goes nuts! Would have to agree with Marky here, Py; you must be setting us up for something nasty....

(Did Legolas' bow ever get named properly? I can't see him going around referring to it as "the Great Bow of Lorien"....:D)

Well, the way I see it, and without intending to sound patronizing in anyway, I'd rather have a few people having a go, than just Marky and I batting questions back and forth and everyone else looking at them and thinking "Oh no, I'm not even going to try this, far too erudite and picky for me..."

I'm not suggesting it should be dumbed down, but I see no harm in the odd less intimidating question...

If you disagree, you're perfectly within your rights to tell me I'm being patronising: that was not my intention, just to broaden the responses to the thread...

Not at all, the more the merrier! I like to think that the rest of us interrupt your volleys now and again...:D:D:D

*Still thinks that Py's got a nasty stinker up his sleeve, though:rolleyes:*

Hey guys! I have a great idea! Why don't we just keep doing what we are doing?

Each question is relevant and challenging. Some people know the answer right off and others do not. There's no dumbing down going on IMO. Most of the questions I can answer, it's finding the quote I struggle with which for me is the fun part. Some of us like to be challenged.:D

Like it or not, you turkeys are stuck with me!:cool:;)

Nyanyanyanyanya! *sticks thumbs in ears, wiggles fingers, and blows a raspberry*

Not sure that there was any question of us changing (64 pages should be proof to the contrary!), Double Dub-yah, and there's no need to be rude...;)

*Flares a little brighter and the raspberry evaporates*

Oh Maaarkyyy,

ASK A BLOOMIN' QUESTION, WILL YA?

GEEEEEEZ!

Sorry - got carried away there for a moment - carry on.....I'll just stand over here by the post and polish my nails while I wait...

Sorry WW, but while he's usually on in the mornings, it's 3:25 (I think!) in the morning for him right now, so you and I here on the East Coast aren't likely to see anything tonight. He's good about checking, though, so you should only have finished the nails of half your relatives by the time he complies....;)

I was kiddin, Pyan. We need to sort a particular colour in which we type when we don't mean what we're saying all that seriously. Pretty much everything I say in other words :D

For the question: Who or what is as crooked as Melkor?

Well, er ... "all".

"She looked to find her son here awaiting her. But if you are he, then I fear that all has gone awry."

Then Turin laughed bitterly. "Awry, awry?" he cried. "Yes, ever awry: as crooked as Morgoth!"

(Children of Hurin, chXII - "The Return of Turin to Dor-Lomin")

Oh, and for completeness:

Last of all is set the name of Melkor, He who arises in Might. But that name he has forfeited; and the Noldor, who among the Elves suffered most from his malice, will not utter it, and they name him Morgoth ...

Silmarillion, "Valaquenta"

(Just in case someone might need me to demonstrate that Melkor=Morgoth, because pedantry is not unknown in these parts :D)
