The chronicles word counter!

Chronicles I dropped a couple of words, Chronicles II has been split into two documents, so progress is hard to sketch out. "Future storyline" has gone up though, so not bad, this month of March...

Did some writing just now while the dog had a snooze. The Barbarians' Key is now at just over 50k words. Yay.

Progress as of 4 April 2011

1) Novel: The Cry of Angels (provisional title)
Genre: Fantasy/Magical Realism, possible series
Current Word Count: 62,488 (includes about 500 words of synopsis of the next 8 chapters) of 100,000
Status: On a minor hold until I finish ...

2) Novella: Obsessed, working title, the real title is Us
Genre: Erotica, self-indulgent fantasy of fantasies
Current Word Count: 33,000 of ca 38,000
Status: Just filling in a couple final gaps

3) Novel: The Cult of Hahn
Genre: Epic Fantasy (creation myth/parallel universe)
Current Word Count: 57,257 of 125,000
Status: On hold until I finish 1) or get stuck on it.

4) Novel: The Fantastical Adventures of S-69 Lost, working title
Genre: Epic Sci-Fi, first of possible series
Current Word Count: 27,545 of 100,000+
Status: On hold, until I figure out a new plot arc

5) Novel: The Wind Whisperer (I'm going to have to change this title)
Genre: Literary Supernatural Fantasy
Current Word Count: 17,745 of 100,000?
Status: Some of my best writing, but it is on hold until I have fully contemplated my navel.

So what do I want you to thrash me on? I need to finish Obsessed, so I can get back to The Cry of Angels.

I easily get sidetracked on short stories, so I might plead extenuating circumstances. (Obsessed was supposed to be a short story.)

whahey! welcome to the self-flagellation section! them's some hardcore hills you've set out to climb.

Well, I just wrote another 600 words in Obsessed, but now I need to go make some dinner. Maybe it won't be 38,000. Just two bridging sections to go.

1000 more words today, just a brief scene to end that section, and one more gap to fill. Then I'm finished!

HTTN now at the dizzy heights of 122500 words - and still with a great chunky gap between chapter 15 and "Cassia meets Dragon" (currently pegged as chapter 18; anybody interested can find the first draft of that way back here in 2008).

the road, it seems, goes ever on. :)

36,100 now. One gap filled, one left to fill. Could be a lot - 2 maybe 3 scenes. We'll see how I am moved.

Obsessed, first draft complete at 38,445 words. Now I have to give it an edit, and then put it away in a drawer somewhere. (Maybe I'll post it at the WritersCafe first and then bury it.) At least that means I can get back to what I am supposed to be writing.

Having recently been informed that it would be a good idea to join the fun on this thread, I decided that I'd follow up on it all and actually post.

In the last few weeks, I've found the writing bug again, so this s the rather big list of what I'm working on at the moment... mostly short stories.

This first little batch are stories I've actually finished (1st draft only)

This is Not My Life 4798
The Finger of God 4457
The One That Got Away 4742
Stories and Rumours 3115
A Tale In The Telling 4491
In The Shadow of Harker 10892
Aggressive Passivity 1295
Ares 1618
Descent into Dystopia 3287
Dreams of Supermen 1999
For the Want of a Mouse 5203
Unnamed 4036
Inception 1567
1000 798

The next few are all stories I want to finish (before I go back and work on the others). The word count on these is where they currently stand.

Density 321
Dinosaur 2998
Dinosaur 2 289
The Gardener 348
Ghost 917
Time Travel 627

Finally my completed novel (YA). I've drafted, redrafted and just about done all I can to this, I'm not sure what I'm going to do next. It probably needs to go to an editor so I guess I'll start thinking about that.

Sarah's House 90,818

Phew

wow, that's a heck of a lot of stories. i wish i could do short stuff as easily! some of the titles are rather intriguing - For the Want of a Mouse? which Mouse? :D

Meanwhile, Cassia is on her way to Galliarca - at last!
HTTN/MC1
Genre: big-style fantasy
Wordcount: 123600 and rising
Status: the gap is closing....

Unfinished
Novel: The Eternity Sphere
Genre: SF for YA (probably)
Word Count: 75,000 or so
Status: Slow progress. Have been distracted by 6,100 word Fantasy short story that I hope to get into an anthology. First time at Fantasy, and kind of enjoyed it. There's a satisfaction in cleaving heads in two with an axe.
As for the main event, it's all downhill from here. 2/3 of the way through the story and it's all action and revelation to come.

It's fantasy, but unlike anything I ever thought of writing, I did not even know if it was going to work when I first started it (or whether I would be able to make it work... but it did come together fairly well in the end. I'm not sure whether the title gives something away, so it might be worth changing it, but I rather like it ...)

No particular Mouse... but there might be a thank you in there somewhere.

It's quite amazing how much most of you write, I'm in awe. I won't even have a look at any of my old stuff (In fact I don't think I ever did a word count of the attempted novel... hmmm)

Ooooh. :D Is it the story that I know about?

As for me, The Barbarians' Key now at just over 51k.

Possibly, but probably not - I forgot to include the one I think you are talking about, but then that one is finished! :)

Again, oooooh! I didn't think the title fit with the one I was thinking about.

It was an attempt to do a traditional type fantasy story, and it turned out a little like that and a little not like that... if that makes any sense.

But as it stands in it's first draft I'm happy with it
