The chronicles word counter!

P for Pleistocene

Well, I've just finished chapter 40, which brings the tale to ~118,000 words, with at least a dozen chapters to go.

As far as I can tell, I've been writing this non-stop for just over a year. It is certainly my longest single work to date.

I've got the opening of its sequel written, and the core of the plot roughed out, but I think I'll give that a miss for a while as I don't think I can sustain this level of effort for another year...

For example, I've just had to re-read the whole of PfP and draw a map of what timber was felled where and when, and when it was hauled...

Well I've managed to do a bit more writing this week and am well into the next short story, suddenly seems as though there is so much to do! Writing comments for our little writing challenges here - that people seem to appreciate them makes it very hard to stop.and I enjoy it too; then I'm trying to keep up with the X-Men history I'm doing elsewhere on this site!

On the other hand found an old CD with a couple of shorts on it that look like I can add to my current pile!

Current Word Count: 57,257 of 125,000
Status: On hold until I finish 1) or get stuck on it.

4) Novel: The Fantastical Adventures of S-69 Lost, working title
Genre: Epic Sci-Fi, first of possible series
Current Word Count: 27,545 of 100,000+

5) Novel: The Wind Whisperer (I'm going to have to change this title)
Genre: Literary Supernatural Fantasy
Current Word Count: 17,745 of 100,000?
Status: Some of my best writing, but it is on hold until I have fully contemplated my navel.

I'm going to post Us at WritersCafe.org (since it isn't family friendly) as soon as this edit is done, hopefully sometime next week. I'll post it in ten ca 4000-word segments, probably weekly.

I'm spending most of my writing time on The Cry of Angels, to which I somehow added 2000 words yesterday.

Crikey Anne, that is busy - and impressive too.

I've managed, somehow to do another 1000 words today, what with all my chores, and perhaps slightly more important/frighteningly have submitted my long 'floating' novel to an editor. Gulp

Novel: Innocence
Genre: High Fantasy (Dark)
Current Word Count: 5058 of 200-300k
Status: Lots of lore built for the world. Writing of the novel itself, recently started, aiming at min 1000 words a day.

I've just finished the one I'd called The Gardener, but was not coming in with a proper title for it. In this instance though, it's completed at 9,500 and is bay far the longest of the new stories I've been working on.

It's also got a proper title now, which is ahem: Just A Gardener.

I'm slowly whittling down my to write column, and will then go back to the tidying up of all these tales I've been playing with.

Next up an attempt to do something really different (and out of my comfort zone)

Novel: Innocence
Genre: High Fantasy (Dark)
Current Word Count: 12710 of approx 250k.
Status: Making decent progress. Chapter 1 first draft done. Following few chapters completely outlined. Planning on doing quite a bit today.

that's one heck of a prospective word count. and it sounds like your chapters are even longer than mine!

double post, but i'm on another milestone on the millstone.

MC:HTTN
massive fantasy revenge tragedy etc
130000 words and rising
ev'ry day it's a-gettin closer....

Novel: All That Glisters
Genre: Chick-lit (I know, I know - but the Time Watchers series is sci-fi - this one is different)
Current Word Count: 31286 out of an anticipated 100K
Status: I aim to write at least 1000 words on the days I get to write. I am a supply teacher so I write on the days I don't get work which is more often than not these days. Am actually averaging 1500 per writing day at the moment - I even have a spreadsheet calculator which tells me that if I carry on as I have been, I will finish sometime in July.

I may start posting excerpts on my blog soonish.

Novel: HTTN (MC1)
Genre: Warlocks, dragons and rabbits
Word count: 136500
Status: The road goes ever onward... no, wait, that's something else. Chapter 16 now complete, which means there's just one more chapter to write from scratch - and five more in various stages of uncompletedness. i nearly almost have a working first draft.

Novel: Untitled (WIP 1)
Genre: science fiction a little mixture of alternative history and steampunk, but I guess I can't call it steampunk becuase its neither steam powered or Victorian setting.
Word Count: 1000 out of 100k-110k
Status: I am just glade I finally just sat and started to write. I have two-three plot problems to work out but it was taking me to hard to figure them out so I figured I would just start and see where it takes me.

Just finished another of the short stories I'm working on.
Word count for the stage One 'completed' comes in at 100,000 words.

Before moving on to actually editing etc., and trying to do something with them got another 4 to finish:

A Ghost Story called 'Two Boys'
A fantasy: 'Harder Than Cold Steel' (This one is starting from scratch)
A Humorous SF: Where My Ancestors Never Trod (Provisional Title)
Horror: Ravenous (Provisional Title - Second version of another story)

*runs in stamping her feet and pulling out fist-fulls of hair*

It's happening again:

Progress as of 20 May 2011

1) New something, novella, novel, gargantuan series, whatever ...
Genre: Sci-Fi, or off-world fantasy ... no ... Sci-Fi ... starts like a thriller ( and not as "literary" as some other things I write)
Current Word Count: 4700 and rising rapidly.
Status: I'm obsessing on this right now. This will probably have a lot of short chapters. I'm in the third now. It's probably FF so I might post some of it.

2) Novel: The Cry of Angels (provisional title)
Genre: Fantasy/Magical Realism, possible series
Current Word Count: 67,400 (includes about 500 words of synopsis of the next 7 chapters) of 100,000
Status: Not exactly on hold. I'm into chapter 17 of ca 23.

3) Novel: The Cult of Hahn
Genre: Epic Fantasy (creation myth/parallel universe)
Current Word Count: 57,257 of 125,000
Status: On hold until I finish 2) or get stuck on it.

4) Novel: The Fantastical Adventures of S-69 Lost, working title
Genre: Epic Sci-Fi, first of possible series
Current Word Count: 27,545 of 100,000+
Status: On hold, until I figure out a new plot arc, rereading. Not family-friendly, or I'd post for comments.

5) Novel: The Wind Whisperer (I'm going to have to change this title)
Genre: Literary Supernatural Fantasy
Current Word Count: 17,745 of 100,000?
Status: Some of my best writing, but it is on hold until I have fully contemplated my navel.

Novel: All That Glisters (you wouldn't believe the number of people who have told me categorically that my title is wrong and that it should be 'glitters' or 'glistens'!)

Genre: Women's fiction (I have 'upgraded' the genre as it's not fluffy enough for chick-lit)

Current Word Count: 52997 out of an anticipated 100K

Status: It might well end up being more than 100K as I have now got past the half way point numerically, but I haven't finished telling the first part of the story. With my Time Watchers book, I just kept writing it till the story was told and it ended up being about 140K. However I don't yet know if the second part will be as long as the first part, and I may do some vicious editing, depending on how the first read-through feels when I've finished.

Two short stories...

'Big Bad Bugs', an Alien Invasion scenario.

'Headache', where-in the victim discovers an unexpected side-effect.

Both of these were inspired by fever dreams during my recent, severe bout of viral bronchitis. Now these --And THAT !!-- are out of my system, I hope to get back to 'P for Pleistocene'...

Novel - A Wardens Oath
Genre - Fantasy
Current word count - 120k
Status - First draft done... now onto editing. Have already printed it off and ran over it all with pen. Just got to go it again. 5months taken so far.

Novel: Innocence
Genre: High Fantasy (Dark)
Current Word Count: 22k of approx 250k.
Status: Slowed down a bit due to it being essay time. Constructed quite a bit more lore for the world though.

Also wrote a couple of short stories.

Awakening - 2500 words - rewrite of my 300 word challenge entry 'Sacrifice'
Tome of Ravens - About 4k so far - ex-priest who is fleeing his goddess survives by performing fake exorcisms.
