The chronicles word counter!

Novel: HTTN (MC1)
Genre: Warlocks, dragons and rabbits
Word count: 136500
Status: The road goes ever onward... no, wait, that's something else. Chapter 16 now complete, which means there's just one more chapter to write from scratch - and five more in various stages of uncompletedness. i nearly almost have a working first draft.

refreshed word count: 138500
status: having fun in Marrakesh (aka Galliarca) and the medina (aka the mede); not sure this chapter has a point yet, but i know where it's supposed to finish....

Partial update:

1) Out of the Frying Pan (working title), novella, novel, gargantuan series, whatever ...
Genre: Sci-Fi or off-world fantasy ... no ... starts like a thriller (and not as "literary" as some other things I write)
Current Word Count: 7038 and rising rapidly.
Status: I'm obsessing on this right now. This will probably have a lot of short chapters. I'm into chapter 4 and introducing the antagonist/antihero.

Finished Ravenous, to give the short I was working on a title, coming in at 7,800 words.

That can join the others in the waiting file.

I now have three more stories to finish in this stage of things before moving on. Not quite sure which one to go with yet:

A Ghost story
A Fantasy or a light SF

1) Out of the Frying Pan (working title), novella, novel, gargantuan series, whatever ...
Genre: Sci-Fi, or off-world fantasy ... no ... Sci-Fi ... starts like a thriller (and not as "literary" as some other things I write)
Current Word Count: 11,500.
Status: I'm still obsessing on this well into chapter 6

2) Novel: The Cry of Angels (provisional title)
Genre: Fantasy/Magical Realism, possible series
Current Word Count: 68,950 (includes about 500 words of synopsis of the next 7 chapters) of 100,000
Status: I'm into chapter 17 of ca 23. I'm stuck on whether to include a transitional scene. I may just skip it and move on.

Novel: The Last Days
Genre: Epic Fantasy
Current Word Count: First draft: 20,000 out of a projected 120,000
Status: Detailed plan worked out (essential as it is the final part of a trilogy), weeks (make that months!) of research carried out, now working through the first draft. Hope to have first draft completed by end of year - then ten months of revising, proof-reading, and then all ready for December 2012. That's the plan...

Quite pleased that I have finished the humorous SF tale, now titles Plymouth Through Yesterday Part 2, a short story that came in at 4,800 words.

Fantasy Harder Than Cold Steel has also reached the end of the preliminary stage as well, very different style that seemed to come out of nowhere, which I think is excellent at the moment, so will be appalling on a reread later. This was approx. 4,400 words.

So I've got the ghost story Two Boys to complete and then I can move onto stage two with all these shorts.

P for Pleistocene...

Re-written same short combat scene in chapter #42 about eight times, tweaking text and shuffling stuff around in hope of improving the mess...

Seems to be working-- It now reads better, though that's not saying much...

Ah, well, back to the scene to see if I can comb out a few more snarls...

Started something new today. Have been playing around with an idea for a month or so, doing some research, thinking it over, etc..

Working Title - 'Beached' modern day fantasy - Prologue 1300 words Done.

Progress as of 29 June 2011

3) Novel: The Cult of Hahn
Genre: Epic Fantasy (creation myth/parallel universe)

Status: Some of my best writing, but it is on hold until I have fully contemplated my navel.

Hello. Mind if I join in.

First would like to say that reading this thread, has been pretty much enough to inspire me to write more. If i'm having a slow day, i just read through a litte more of this thread then get right back at it.

I have many projects in various states of completion. Half a dozen short stories finished, a novella done and awaiting a third edit, novels half written and others with weeks of world building and planning. But I tend to concentrate on one thing until it's either done or i really lose enthusiasm for it (temporarily though, always)

Novel - Untitled (I'm awful at titles)
Genre - Fantasy
Current word count - 47389
Status - This is my current WiP, started it on the 13th of June. It was kinda my own personal NaNoWriMo experiment, and I guess I found out i can do them. Been writing about 1000 words an hours when i actually write; 3000 words a day, give or take. I have no idea how long it's going to be when it's finished, maybe 100,000??

Hi LittleStar welcome to the thread and the Chrons for that matter.

Feel free to jump right in, we're all a friendly bunch around here, or at least we try to be. This thread is for everyone who writes, and as much for encouragement for ourselves and each other.

Right, for me I've just finished the last of my short stories (although it's grown a bit outside of that now) coming in at 12,000 words.

SO all my shorts are now in the completed file (which is about to be renamed my 1st draft file) and I shall start going back through them, doing what needs to be done and then think about actually doing something with them.

I am sure there is still a long way to go with these things, and substantial rewrites will be in order, especially that last one.

But...

Before I go jumping back in I might have a little look in the spider-web filled drawer at some of my old novel attempts and see if their is anything there that might take my fancy to play with...

welcome aboard LittleStar!

time for the latest update, post-AltFiction.

HTTN (MC1)
large epic tragic fantasy
140k and rising
status: once this chapter is done, i have one more to write from scratch and an ending to rejig, and then it's all about the edit. wow - i'm nearly there!

Hi, this seemed like another sensible place to drop in!

Current Project: Three chapter submission for the Black Library, currently totalling 17,612 words at approximately the half-way point of the third chapter.

The story is entitled "The Black Saint" and follows the exploits of a caustic and highly reluctant hero in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

I have submitted a total of eight short story samples thus far for their current "open submissions window", each consisting of a few thousand words.

After the end of July it's out of 40K for me and into original fic for a few months, hopefully completing my first novel and being well into a second by christmas. Perhaps a little optimistic, but there's nothing wrong with that!

So, now that I actually have a new computer and all the segregated parts of my WIP have been collected in one document, I figure I should jump in.

The Barbarians' Key is now at 61,600 words.

Started a new thing too, which is at about 1000 words so far but I should probably forget it until I finish TBK or I'll never finish the damn thing.

'Beached' is up to 8000 words, (four chapters) and about the same again in notes...

Slow due to research...stories set in my own Fantasy world are so much easier, I can just make it up and not worry about readers questioning the realism.
