Okay, Waters and the Wild, I have finished a very drafty first draft. I know the end! Huzzah! 36,000 words which is really long for a first draft for me.

Waters -- now up to 41,912. Yay! The first 25,000 are close to final draft. The other 16,000 are being approached and better expand til they're closer 45, or I have a novella and not a book. I do have about four new scenes to add, though, so that's 6k sorted.

My romance is now 19,250. Not bad, not bad...

Space Captain Flight, R.S.N. in Return to Planet Asbo! A satirical sci-fi parody sequel (second part of the first wartime Captain Flight trilogy) currently stands at a mere 1670 words, but that's only just into chapter 2.

The first part, Space Captain Flight, R.S.N. in Perils of the Death Moon! weighs in at a tad over 50 000 words, a little light for a novel but I can't really add more to it without it looking like I've gone out of my way to add more.

"The Many" - still at 16k as I digest some more.

RoboCarer, a short about robots. It was 11,745, went out to readers and generally got panned, especially the start! Anyway, I'm a big boy so I dusted myself off and got stuck back in and I've fixed my very weak start and I'm almost ready for another kicking from my readers - why, oh why do we do this??? Currently at 9.5k and falling, words being killed all the time, getting tighter and hopefully better with each new edit.

Having not lost my whole week's work... now at 44,729. Lots more layers appearing. I'm still in a mild panic this isn't going to be long enough, but this 2000 have been added over about three chapters with none of the new scenes added, so let's hope so.

My romance is now 22,700. Which I thought was pretty good, but apparently that's only 3450 words since I last posted. Which is about 490 words a day. Hey, that's better than my usual 300 words a day though.

Well, I've only added a couple of hundred words to the main part, but in terms of extras, I've written 1011 words of the Lazer Webley Mark IV instruction manual, including the rather obscure joke - "Webley Lazer Armaments GmBH accepts no responsibility for any harm which results from misuse of their weapons.", my favourite line from this particular part so far.

Getting back into the mood, after a short hiatus from this WIP.

Seems I had an even longer hiatus. Got some new ideas down on paper (well digital) whilst I let the main wip simmer for a bit. Been a year since I've started this I see! Looks live I've averaged about 3,000 words per month.

Another 435 words today, all Head Librarian Kitty Davis arguing with the city council about opening the city arsenal in order to prepare for invasion. This in turn is leading to them opening the arsenal only to find it empty. A few jokes about bureaucratic process, obfuscation and prevarication, to be topped off with a retro in-joke type sequence where Kitty has to send messages to Space Captain Flight via a machine that sends data packets of up to ten seconds of speech, but has been fitted with a coin-operated system by the tightwad of a head councillor.

All scenes are planned, some done in detail, some sketched. So, back to the beginning and hopefully this time, I'll get it very close to finished. Huzzah!

Another five hundred words, plus the realisation that Kitty can be rather violent when she's not in a good mood. She just smashed the Head Councillor's face into a steel door to shut him up.

Good job it is in character for her.

At the suggestion of some members here, I have decided to return to the original - Space Captain Duncan Flight, R.S.N. in Perils of the Death Moon! in order to weave a few new scenes and plotlines into it. As a result, 645 more words as of now. Quite pleased with that. Also planned out where this plotline is going and it's giving me a chance to reinsert an idea I'd had at an earlier date.

Anyway, I've returned to this demanding WIP, just in time for an up coming house move so my timing is spot on as ever!

The baby alien scene is humming now, the joy of editing and of course all the great help I've got on here - thanks everyone.

Still going upwards. Hurray! At 57, 828 words. A lot of work done on the tricky middle section -- next week I start work on the end game and hope to add about another 12,000 words. I'd be happy with 70 for this little one.
