The chronicles word counter!

I completed three flash stories this week. Each around the 1000 word mark.

I hope to start my short story to submit to Garys Alien Anthology this weekend.

Completed the book-within-the-book on Sunday. Really knackered now!

Do other novel-writers experience a sense of gloom, even depression when they've finished a novel?

It's probably fatigue, like you said, the act of creation can be physically and emotionally draining. Especially when done at such an impressively frenetic pace. I'd take a guess that this one gripped you too, and a bit like a intensely passionate affair, there's bound to be a downer when it's over.

Concentrate on the achievement of another finished novel. Well done for that.

In other news, that's my entire adverb quota for this month used in one post.

I picked up my Allery story again. It was on 16k when I left it, it's now on 22,121 words. Still slow going, but at least it's going at all. I've gained a POV, so I'm now on three POVs.

The Many - 48k. A good month, more so as work has been a little busy. On some feedback from a beta and a section near the start will get the chop which is about 1k. I knew it didn't belong - I liked it and was hoping the section could stay, but noooo.

So 47k.

I, Singularity is now 85,123 words. Our Hero is getting her boyfriend to explain what the hell happened to the $500,000 reward for the capture of that supervillain...

By January 11th...

Bartley (working title)

Urban Fantasy novel

Status:75,000 words. 11k in a month is a lot better than 15k in four months! With a bit of luck and a fair wind, I can get this momentum to carry me to the end. My characters are about to collect for the climactic battle.

The climactic battle is over and Bartley is complete! 15k in a month. My final sentence:

"Tell me more."

First draft 90k words

Second draft (first draft edited and formatted) 55k words

Third draft (submittable -- edited post-writing group) 33k words

Looking back, I started sometime in May 2013. Nine months for a full first draft, most of a second, and 1/3 of a third, is pretty good for me.

Woo hoo. Just passed 50k

Title: Ancient Technologies
Genre: Science Fiction, set in current time.
Start Date: August 2012
Word count: 50,405

And good work to all the others posting in this thread :)

Title: Ancient Technologies
Genre: Science Fiction, near future.
Start Date: August 2012
Word count: 51,456

A thousand words today!

For those keeping track, I have a publication date - 1st September 2014. Technically it will be self-published, but will be a good test of the waters for the publishing company.

Ooooh yes, do tell me more. Soon. :)

Book 1 of my planned First Federation series (individual titles not yet thought of): 46,500 and about 15-20% through.

The Many - 53k. I'm still chopping and editing and I have killed off 3k (maybe more) in total. So good progress, considering that I'm editing out almost as much as I'm putting back in. When I'm finished all this chopping and changing then I can finally start working toward the ending.

Unfinished:

Novel 1: Aurean Legacy Part One
Genre: unsure exactly, but somewhere along the lines of fantasy
Word Count: 5372
Status: Active
Novel 2: Not yet named
Genre: Fantasy (probably)
Word Count: 208
Status: Just Started, so on and off between this one and Novel 1.

Not really a word count but a happy dance. New baby nicknamed 'Cloud' finally has a proper plot that makes sense! I had the characters and the setting but wasn't quite sure what was supposed to happen to it all. Cloud now has a direction to head for. About 3000 words in but had stopped for plotting and planning.

Oh and Cloud is YA, so something new for me. Its also sort of SF-y, so another departure from my comfort zone. Let's see if anything comes out of this.

361 words written today. More than I've written for a long while. I'm aiming to write 300 words a day, so I'm ok with that.

Started my Alien story to submit to Gary. This is my third idea and am going to stick to it and see it out. I have the start and finish planned out, now I just have to write it...that's the easy part right????

At Starbucks and 309 words in.
