Least Favorite Characters

LOL! I guess there's someone for everyone. I wouldn't want to be there for the bedding, though. :)

Imagine the arguments though?
"Where have you been?"
"What time do you call this?"
"Are you drunk!??"
"Eat Morningstar!" :)

I would have to say I don't like Petyr Baelish, he is very trecherous and I feel sorry for Sansa being with him. Gregor Clegane, Vargo Hoat and all their underlings are monsters and Tywin Lannister is an awful man. The Boltons are also horrible.

Late posting but here goes...

Joffrey - what a spoiled git. Wanted to strangle the book on many occasions because of that jumped up little gobsh*te

Cersei - evil, vindictive, hateful, conceited, narcissistic, just plain grrrrrrrr

Vargo Hoat - not a lot to say, awful

The Mountain that Rides - as above

Raff the Sweetling - as above

Stannis - rigid, stupid, pig-headed, stubborn, full of himself

Melissandre - evil lady, bad advisor, makes me shiver

Catelyn / UnCat or Lady Stoneheart, both annoy the hell out of me

Littlefinger - slimy, thinks too much of himself, wants his way with Sansa

Roose Bolton - for all reasons already listed

Lord Frey and other freys - just heh, plain heh, nasty heh

Think that's it, probably some I've forgotten but hey ho, I'm sure someone else will list them for me.

***SPOILER***

In the case of Arya, I must defend Martin. He is clearly building the character, showing all the events and situations that effect her. In the case of Catelyn, there really is no defense. When it was revealed that she was not dead, and we had this miserable mummy/zombie on our hands I was devastated.

Agree 100% I really liked Catelyn before AFFC and now I hate her with a passion. I hope there is a reason for the new Catelyn and I hope that reason can redeem her somehow. I know for a fact no matter how low I was to sink my Mother would stand beside me and try to help me without question. Until AFFC this is how I saw Catelyn therefore GRRM has to have something in mind for the new Catelyn there is no other reason to foster such absolute hate in her as he did in AFFC, I really do believe that. He took any bad feelings the reader may have had for Catelyn in the previous books and enhanced upon each and every single one of them in what looked to be a vindictive attempt to trash her POV. There has to be a reason for that!

Only a mother can understand the love she feels towards her children and only a mother can understand the utter desperation she feels when she can't be there for all of her children all of the time. She wants to be there for them 100% of the time, make no mistake about that, but a mother is only human and not a god even though some children may see her as one. I think GRRM's POV that was Catelyn the mother was so honestly human and now .... well she didn't ever deserve that, unless he has something else in mind. My god! I was devastated completely there has to be a reason for the new Catelyn that brings peace to the readers mind, there has to be! God someone kill her and make it so she stays dead, PLEASE!

As for Ayra, she is one of my favorite POV's and those would include Tyrion, Dany, Samwell, Davos and Jon.

To answer this question at the present time would mean we would have to look at Beric. Beric was brought back by Thoros as well and he seems to be his self. I believe Catelyn is not a zombie but what is in store for her in the future of the series I would not care to guess.

I would agree with your assessment of Beric "mostly" being like himself.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I got the distinct impression that it became harder and harder for Thoros to repeatedly resurrect Beric. I also thought Beric dropped a couple of comments that indicated he wasn't too happy about being brought to "life" repeatedly. As an extension of that "feeling" or ennui, he eventually kills himself in resurrecting Catelyn. In sum, I don't think Beric was a happy camper about being unBeric.

However, I got the distinct impression that Catelyn's experience is different from Beric's. Thoros (I believe) had said she was dead too long to be resurrected and counseled heavily against it. I assumed that was why unCat has a burr in her undergarments and such a nasty bedside manner (which we didn't see with Beric).

I wonder if unCat has any of Catelyn left in her or if something else is animating her body. Anyone?

It seems to me that Catelyn thinks that all of her children are dead. Losing 5 children would be enough to unhinge any mother.

Hi all :) , this is my first post although I have been following these threads for a couple of weeks. I have very much enjoyed GRRM's books - I read Book one years ago and recently joined an online audio book club and have listened so far up to book 3. I am thoroughly hooked! and I didn't think it could get any worse until this forum, now I wake up in the middle of the night twisting and turning all those plots around in my head. Anyway, belatedly for this thread, my least favourite characters in order of vileness:

Lysa Aryn - Gods! what a ghastly, jealous, clinging, violent excuse for a woman! having her fly was soooo satisfying;

Joffrey - A twisted little arrogant upstart!

Robert Aryn - An 8 year old milksop with a doll for heavens' sake - let him fly I say!!

Tywyn Lannister - award for worst father, uncaring and hypocrytical character - sheesh! he was sleeping with Shay!

Those are the worst so far - more could be added after book 4 :)

I like characters with presence, even Joffrey, Clegor, and Cersei. They've got personality and add spice to the overall mix.

The ones that annoy me are the ones who aren't directly contributing to the story - Catelyn and Arya especially comes across as incidental characters - certainly before Volume 3 - which means they seem pointless to read about.
I am in total agreement with you on this. In some cases such as Cersei my mind is reeling to what in the lords name will she do next. Its thier actions and reactions that makes me go nutty and want to read more.

Okay, if Caitlyn loved her children SOOOO much, why would she abanmdon them at winterfell to go see ned when she couldve just sent Rodrik to send the same message. its stupid. So it caitlyn.

My hated characters.

CAITLYN.(read above, she ruins everything)
CERSEI (the bitch has it in for herself, she tried to make life horrible for everybody! what crawled up her ass and died *spoiler* IM GLAD Jamie abonded her. the evil biotch)
WALDER FREY! - (heh heh, i love being a back stabbing ******* heh heh ROBB WAS SO COOL)
Roose Bolton - also a backstabbing *******
Theon - .... ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
MAESTER PYCELLE - (OMG WHAT A LITTLE BIOTCH, FIRST AERYS, THEN JON ARRYN, THEN ROBERT, WTF, KILLHIM ALREADY! GO TYRION!)
Lysa Arryn - ... psyco.... crazy... isane... lost her marbles..... not right in the head.... PSYCO
Janos Slynt... just... hate him
Joffery - okay... even sansa doesnt deserve to be treated liek that, as dumb as she is.
And finally
ROBERT, ROBB AND EDDARD FOR DYING :(

Well, quite a list RhaegarTarg. I for one, am happy Ned, Robb and Robert are dead. Sets the series apart. I do agree with Pycelle. He does need to bite it somehow but not before all of the information he has is extracted. Maybe Cersei will give him to Qyburn when she gets out.

Least favourite character: Tyron, he's deadly annoyed.
Wow, I dont think anyone hates Tyrion. What is it that really bugs you about his character? Just curious.

I hate Tyrion because he's always making sarcastic comments and acting like a wiseass. I don't like when people try to be funny. Humor is so annoying. I also dislike abnormally short people with different-colored eyes.

LOL. My wife says the same about me.

Of course he's annoyed! Wouldn't you be?! His wife was raped, his father has denied him his lawful inheritance, and he's a thorn among genetically gifted roses, as it were.:p I'd be annoyed, too.;)

-House Frey : i just hate them period that stuff w/ the red wedding ticked me off.
-House Lannister : there too power crazy it gets old, and they had a part in the red wedding.
-Mad King Aerys : that guy had issues, glad Jamie killed him.
-Roose Bolton : turncloak thats all i have to say bout him.
-Lord Of Bone : that guy just gets on my nerves
-House Greyjoy : they just a bunch of messed up peoples
-Robert Arryn : the kid needs to be disaplines hes a brat
-Joffrey : Hated him from very beginning
-Stannis : If he wants the kingdom he should fight for it not resort of magic
-Magei : Drago was cool and she has to go and kill him

I've gotta join this. Here's a mixed list of Like and Don't LIke:

The Freys - Love'em. Although I can't wait to see them all die painfully, brutally.

Cercei - Can't wait till she's dead. I didn't need her POV in Feast. I reread the Feast while skipping her parts, and it read a lot better.

Tywin - Awesome. I was sorry to see him go, although HOW he was killed was great (except for finding Shae in his bed. That was bs, a convenient way to have Tyrion kill them both before he ran. That's o.k. though, no writer is perfect).

Tyrion - The Best. I personally like obnoxious-midget humor. Can't wait to get his new POV in Dance.

Arya - I'm like it, but it's starting to drag (in Feast). Don't over due it G.M., get to the chase.

Jaime - I liked him before, even though he was a dick. Interesting stuff going on with him in Feast, now that he's a crip.

Jon - Jon's been alright. The important thing for him now is he MUST get Slynt killed. If at the beginning of Dance Jon doesn't send Slynt on a suicide mission (payback), and if Slynt has time to "secretly" plot against Jon, then Jon deserves to die slowly and painfully at the hands of the Lannisters for being an idiot (the Others would be too good for him). Being "Good" doesn't mean being an idiot.

Brieanne - She was tolerable in Storm. What a waiste in Feast. All those pages... and in the end... nothing happened.

Catelyn - I couldn't wait for her to die. Now that she did, she may get better.

Rob - I liked him, I was sorry to see him die...but it was cool to read it happening.

Brandon - This is going to be good...(hopefully).

enough for now, more later.

Welcome Wil.

I like Ser Jorah. In some respects he sees himself and the world very clearly, while he obviously deludes himself into thinking every problem and dilemma in his life is not his fault. He painfully reminds me of myself.
