Book Covers

Well, as I mentioned in an earlier post, I would not have been exposed to the exploits of George Simenon's Maigret or for that matter Hugo's great novels or Jean De La Fontaine's Fables, De Balzac or indeed Tintin and Asterix as early as I did if it had not been through my father's European background.

Indeed, if not for his specific interest and knowledge of German, I clearly would not have been exposed to such philosophers as Nietzche, Kant etc. and of course important literary figures like Goethe, Mann, Sturm, Hesse etc. during my formative years.

Yeah the Van Vogt's I have are mostly from the same era as your copy of Null-A (Sphere). They are fantastic covers that remind me of that Spacewreck book I bought.

I really like the site you posted. This is a great cover (I'm going to have to look for the book now) :D

The covers for THE YEAR OF THE QUIET SUN and THE WORLDS OF NULL-A are very evocative; QUEEN OF K'N YAN creeps me out --- not sure why --- and THE GOBLIN RESERVATION looks fun.

HMMM....given those latest 2 covers Conn, I begin to see why you spend so much time at the library.....;)

Post a cover of the excellent Black Lizard antholgoy we've chatted about once you obtain a copy OK?

Actually the second cover is all mine its one of best Hard Case Crime books i have in the shelf.

The first cover was so sexy that there was 4,5 girls behind in the library cue looking it admiringly and wondering what kind of book i was planning to read :p

My first thought was its Noir and not Romance, erotica or something hahaha...

Sure that wasn't you they were all looking at?...:p

Perhaps all that reading about Howard's action characters has started to have unexpectedly positive side effects......;)

So how does Max Allan Collins compare to Hammet, Chandler etc... ?

Hehe :p

Max Allan Collins is more like Richard Stark,Jim Thompson. Twisted criminal Noir but he has great dark humor, full of irony. I mean the lead character is an assassin but he is very funny too.

I havent laughed so much reading Noir when i read that book except Ken Bruen tragic noir books thats more morbid humour though.

Those Don Maitz covers are beautiful! I love the way each composition makes for a very strong design looked at from a distance and then resolves into equally compelling details on a closer view. A lot of modern covers for fantasy fiction overlook the importance of good composition.

You know I think that fellow with the cat is definitely on to something. It's official! Steve Vai must surely have been doing a spot of moonlighting. Even the release dates more or less match up with Vei's timeline and that girl looks suspiciously like Pia....:)

That cover on The Silver "Metal" Lover is actually quite revealing.....

Gosh, I'd forgotten about Tanith Lee...

 Don't let Tanith catch wind of you saying that, Stephen... She'd be mortally offended!

Mind you, since you go on to say that you loved one of her books, she might just forgive you. :)

I really like both of those dask! Especially the PKD one! Here's some more from my collection.

This seems to be a 70's thing, but a few novels had nudity, especially Edmund Cooper.
