New GRRM Update on ADWD

I'm thinking more along the lines of Seventy-six Bran Moans....

(Except that 76 isn't a big enough number for some.)

Oh, we've got trouble!

Right here in River City!

That starts with "T" and that rhymes with "P" and that stands for "PUN"!

What the hell happened here? First a veiled criticism, then a love-in of the great people on the Chrons, then some bit on Erickson (whom I like - he is Canadian, eh!), then a whine-fest, mixed in with some actual news from GRRM.

All we need now is Boaz heaping praise on Shogun to continue to derail (while I would agree with him on that praise).

I'm going back to my raft.

A bit chilly to be on the raft today, notwithstanding the Star Wars accoutrements... I live in Eastern Ontario too. BRRRR!

GRRM posted on his Not A Blog. I've excerpted the following...

Meanwhile, I've been wrestling with Kong. For more than a week I've been pounding on the epilogue, but still can't get it to gel. This morning I put that aside for a bit and went back to rewrite a Tyrion chapter, and that's going much better. (Don't get too excited over me mentioning the epilogue, please. I don't always write these chapters in the order you read them. The epilogue will close the book, but it won't be the last chapter written. For instance, the last chapter written on A STORM OF SWORDS was the Red Wedding).

Come July, I'm off to San Diego to teach a week at Clarion. There will be a signing at Mysterious Galaxy as well, I believe.

But, alas, the San Diego Comicon is looking less and less likely, so that will probably be the only visit I make to San Diego this year. On the other hand, there's now a good chance I'll be at the NYC Comicon in October. We shall see.

I need more hours in the day, more days in the week, more weeks in the month.
I take it that he's thinking he'll finish in September... give or take a month.

Also, I'd never heard that the Red Wedding was the last thing written for ASOS. I'll bet it was tough to do...

Or rather a new GRRM's Editor update on ADWD:

"But teasing aside, as I sit here knowing how close A Dance with Dragons is to delivery, I am once again filled with a rush of genuine fan-girl excitement. Like the Starks, I too now have a motto. Only mine is: "The new book is coming!" And it always feels like spring."

Cue hope-raising, cynical scorn etc ;)

WTH?.......

Posted on "Not a Blog"

"The old maester has lived many lives, brief but numerous. In his youth he fought in the wars that some say inspired all of this. He has been a king and a god, but he'll always be daddy to me."

and....

"He doesn't have a lot to say, but he says it a lot. He's not a muslim, not a pagan, not a scientologist, but he might be a town in Scotland."

Not A Blog

Must be clues about the latest cast member.

Clues for certain.

That's promising, Boaz. It's a little sad, but I think I put more weight in the editor's predictions than George's. A little professional distance always helps...

Wert's post is more promising than mine. Posts like that make me lose all reason. I have a strong urge to post... "Gaaaahhhh!!!! Na gi gi!!! Shhhluuuugghhhh..... ssszzzzzz da ba...."

Well... If you cannot tell us apart, then I'll take that as a compliment!!!!

So it looks like it will be delivered in 2010 after all. :):)

Unless the mention of Spring is a hint. :( But that may be the season of publication. :):)

(It's so confusing.)

Unless the mention of Spring is a hint. :( But that may be the season of publication. :):)

Or it could be southern hemisphere Spring! Sure, such an idea is preposterous and nonsensical, but...

Okay, I've got nothing.

Ah well, at least we're not like those fiends who analyse every skerrick said by GRRM or people near him to try and work out a release date.

We're not, right?!?! :p

Right! We're the true fans! We're not weirdos... We've got lives!

Now that that's settled, let us recite together...

Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my bedtime. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory, except for finding information regarding ASOIAF first on the internet. I shall live and die with my posts. I am the geek in the darkness. I am the watcher on the web. I am the fire that burns against the cold, the light that brings the dawn, the horn that wakes the sleepers, the shield that guards the realms of fantasy. I pledge my wit and words to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come.

lol - for a second there I thought "It shall not end until my bedtime" was the actual quote! "I am the geek in the darkness" is another gem. Brilliant.

Excellent, Boaz.

(I may even forgive you for your Martin/Lucas comments in the Arya thread. ;):) )

New Entry

What's happened is, I've decided to move two completed chapters, from Arianne's POV, out of the present volume and into THE WINDS OF WINTER. This is something I've gone back and forth on. Arianne wasn't originally supposed to have any viewpoint chapters in DANCE at all, but there's this... hmmm, how vague do I want be? VERY vague, I think... there's this event that would of necessity provoke a Dornish reaction. The event was originally going to occur near the end of the book, but in one of my forty-seven restructures I moved it to the late middle instead. And the timeline then required that the Dornish reaction happen in this book and not the next one, so I wrote the two Arianne chapters and was going to write a third... and a chapter from another POV that would be a necessary complement to them, and...

So I've got to think that this moves Quentyn up in the dead pool significantly, right?

Wow! That's more info on ADWD than we've had in a long while. Thanks, Illifer.

So what is the event that causes a Dornish reaction? Most likely it involves blood and/or death. Prince Doran is in poor health. Quentyn might develop a severe case of Victarionoma or Lorasitis. Could the Ironborn sack the Water Gardens? Or mayhaps Ser Balon does not arrive with Gregor's head, but someone else's instead?

Martin's last line was...

I am dancing, boys and girls, I'm dancing as fast as I can. But some days it does feel as if I am dancing in circles.
