New GRRM Update on ADWD

BFS (as he seems to be known hereabouts :)) would be great though.

BFS. The "B" (for "Barristan") and the "S" (for "Selmy") I get. But the "F"? Is there an actual name, or is it adjectival (as in "Barristan f-ing Selmy" (choose your own f-word))?

I remember reading about it somewhere around here (though the specifics now elude me).

Definately adjectival.:D

BFS was coined by Aegon the Unworthy during Culhwch's hosted tourney and we've used it regularly. Aegon just could not accept anyone underestimating Selmy's abilities... thus, BFS (as in "He's not BS. He's more than BS. He's Barristan 'Freaking' Selmy for crying out loud! The Hound does not stand a chance.") was born. I think AFD was also used once or twice for the Sword of the Morning.

Ah yes Barristan Freaking Selmy...

Maybe it's one of the slave girls, or GRRM gonna drop a huge bomb on us by letting us on in the mind of one of the dragons, like when Silanah silently watches over the city in Erikson book.

Oooops... Sorry, Cul. The tourney was hosted by Wiggum. Maybe your Eddard Stark (Sean Bean) avatar and Wiggum's Johnny Cash avatar blended in my memory. It's not the last time I'll be wrong.

I care that the Meereenese knot is hanging on only by a thread - I hope it isn't Why say Tyrion's a Targ - which means that the book is nearing completion.

Oh and we know that none of Fred, Barney and Yogi are Jon Snow.

I know it is hard to get excited as long as we have been waiting but it did seem to be a very positive update. Anything that gets me closer to getting A Dance with Dragons in my hands is good by me.

From his latest blog, i got the impression he was actually hurrying to finish the book before he sets out for his trips.

On his blog, he now states he won't be attending the New York City Comicon.

"This is purely a time crunch ... And, of course, I have this book to finish."

Good news?

Good news?
It looks like he had more than enough travel on his plate without the NY trip.

I'm not sure the less than two weeks of writing available before he starts jetting off is good news; it doesn't sound long enough to finalise the book. Neither does the couple of weeks between trips.

GRRM doesn't sound like the sort of author who will work to a deadline like this; I imagine that even after typing what he believes should be the last word of the last chapter (that he writes; no necessarily the epilogue), I doubt he'd want to despatch it to the publishers before reading the whole book, with or without letting it lie unseen for a while.

Let's put it like this:

He has either 3 or 4 POV characters to complete and less than 100 MS pages to write/finalise for them, and 2-3 weeks to do it, after apparently finishing two just last week.

So yeah, some cause for optimism I'd say. Although he only has about 5 days to finish it for it to come out in 2010. I'm pretty resigned to him missing that now.

Like Ursa said, I find it doubtful that GRRM will finish the book and ship it off without looking through it some.

Still promising news though, even if a 2010 release is looking less likely. I just hope that someone doesn't decide to push it further back to coincide with the launch of the tv series, as some people have suggested.

Don't know if it's been available before now, but GRRM replaced Tyrion's opening chapter from ADWD with Jon's first.

I won't be reading it, but...it's there.

In the latest entry to Not a Blog, GRRM has this link

http://io9.com/5656513/

to a podcast that was recorded this past Srping. All of the Ice and Fire stuff starts at around the 44 minute mark. GRRm explains "The Knot" in a way that makes a lot of sense, but makes me think that at some point you reach a point where you say "that's a wrap". You'll see what i mean. Really good stuff though.

Anyone who is complaining about how long the book is taking should listen to how frustrated he sounds with the Meereenese knot. Sounds like its doin his head in. He obviously doesn't want to rush this.
