Casting news from the TV series

The Blackfish won't show up until the second season.

Where did you hear that from? I hope he turns up in the first season because he's vital in planning the Battle of the Whispering Wood and breaking the siege of Riverrun. Also Robb seems very pleased to have him on his side before these battles take place so it wouldn't be fitting if he turned up in Season 2, after all the action, to just go off with Robb to raid the Westerlands.

Charles Dance is Tywin Lannister.

Just so much awesome contained in one sentence.

I remember quite a few people wanted him to be Tywin in the speculation threads!

GRRM's blog a few days ago. Martin confirmed that the cast list for Season 1 is huge and expensive, but that they wanted to get a really good actor for Brynden. To be able to do both, they've moved Brynden into Season 2 (along with Hoster and Edmure Tully). Vardis Egen now has a larger role where he escorts Cat to the top of the Eyrie, taking the Blackfish's role there, and the information and backstory on the Arryns and Tullys that comes out through Cat and Brynden's conversations will now come out in discussions between Cat and Rodrik instead.

Sibel Kekelli will paly Shea (meowww...)

Amrita Acharia will play Irri (double meowww...)

Roxanne McKee will play Doreah (triple meowww...)

I need to go take a cold shower now. If you don't believe me, check out GRRM's blog, especially the "adult" content.

The role of Pycelle has been recast due to Roy Dotrice's illness and now Julian Glover will play that role.

The guy at work who got a job as an extra is off for the next week or so for filming (he's only playing a guard at the jousting tournament)

but I'll let you know if there's any goss when he gets back :)

Okay the guy is back so some little spoilers about the scene he was human scenery for

***SPOILERS***SPOILERS***

So it's the jousting scene and he gets to stand behind Mark Addy (the King). Who has a line about getting it started before he p***es himself and Lena Headley storms off .

There's a bit where the horses head gets cut off and also one of the jousters gets a lance through the next (bloody apparently :p)

***SPOILERS***SPOILERS***

Not a lot I know but he's going back for another couple of days later this week.

I think one of my sister in laws relatives might also have an extra role in it too (although I'm unlikely to be seeing him anytime soon)

Apparently Steven Erikson, of Malazan fame, will be working as an extra on Game of Thrones. Unconfirmed, but apparently he told fans at a Czech fantasy convention that GRRM had invited him to appear and he'd agreed. Apparently he appears in the background of an unspecified scene as a horseman.

From the same link, musician Wilko Johnson (former guitarist in the Blockheads) has been cast as Ser Ilyn Payne.

it just occurred to me that when it comes time to cast for Brienne one would have to feel sorry for the actresses that read for it.

That's funny. It's one person who just came to mind. Have you ever seen that ugly girl from "For love of the game". I use "ugly" loosely as that was how she was portrayed. However, I'm sure she wouldn't meet the height requirement.

For some reason I thought of Charlize Theron when readinmg your post. Her tansformation in Monster is really astounding. I don't think a lot of makeup was used either. I suppose they'll need someone with a large and muscualr body and will be able to do the rest with makeup and maybe a prosthetic or two.

Another little update from my colleague

***Spoilers***

The next scene he's in is in an inn and is to do with Ned having to kill Sansa's Dire Wolf (it was Sansa's wasn't it?) because she had teased Joffrey

***Spoilers***

Again not much and it's his last day of being an extra too :(

I guess he hasn't read the book, or it's been so long he's forgotten about the butcher's boy incident.

I noticed that PK's post (post#407) was referenced by Winter Is Coming.

(I'll have to check to see whether her latest post is mentioned.)

I actually lent him the book but I don't think he's actually read it no (I couldn't remember exact details either to be honest :D).

So Sean Bean is very serious and generally just paces and doesn't interact

Mark Addy and argh the guy from the wire *runs of to internet search* Aiden Gillen are a bit more friendly.

oooh-er I feel all famous :D

Unfortunately probably no more inside gossip from me :(

New GoT material will air as part of the 20-minute preview of new HBO shows just before tonight's True Blood S3 finale, so US posters may want to tune in for that. HBO will apparently post the footage to their website ASAP afterwards for those of a foreign persuasion.

Check out the new trailer and production featurette for Game of Thrones

I'm shocked this hasn't been linked to yet...

My thoughts - everything looks fantastic. Except for the brief glimpse we get of Dany, Viserys, and a Dothraki. That all looks really, I don't know, cheap? Badly executed, I guess. The hair in particular, but the whol feel of that section of the book. I hope I'm proven wrong by the final product...

Good news, my colleague has been asked to go back for a couple more days. Might have more (albeit slightly rubbish :p) goss :)

I didn't get any hint of cheapness in any of that traiiler. I wish they had themed (is that even a word) it around a dire wolf rather than a crow, but I guess then they wouldn't have been able to use the effect at the end where the title is created. Overall though I liked what i saw.

Yeah, cheap probably wasn't the right word. Unconvincing or unrealistic, maybe. Everything else looked so good, in comparison Dany looked wrong. As I said, I really hope that it's just a result of only seeing a glimpse.
