Casting news from the TV series

Dwayne (The Rock) johnson would be perfect, at least physically.

Dwayne Johnson is of middle eastern appearance now? that must have been some
major surgery... talk about an extreme makeover. i'm sure his samoan ancestors would be very proud of his new features.
I couldn't watch this series is The Rock was in it...oh god he's just the worst actor. "actor" he doesn't even act... he just gives the same over-performed over-staged appearances he did whilst still on Smackdown.

dg, Johnson is a great overactor. Kurt Russell is hands down, in my opinion, the greatest overactor ever. I love Kurt Russell. Big Trouble in Little China is undeniably the greatest film ever made. I don't like everything that Jim Carrey has done, but I really appreciate his talent as an overactor.

Have you seen Be Cool? It's the sequel to Get Shorty... anyways, Be Cool is terrible, but the Rock's performance is not bad at all. In fact I like his overacting very much. I think he shows great promise as an overactor... he just needs to apply himself.''

You may tend to think that I'm being facetious, but let me assure you I'm not. William Shatner, Bruce Campbell, Dennis Hopper, Tom Hulce, Robin Williams, Gary Oldman, Kathy Bates, Jack Nicholson, Willem Dafoe, and George C. Scott are my some of my favorite overactors, though Kurt Russell heads the list. Some of these actors overact for a certain part and some do it all the time. I love good overacting. Kurt Russell is in my top five favorite actors... and Big Trouble in Little China is my favorite non-drama.

I guess you missed the part about Middle Eeastern PREFERRED, but since you seem to have seen him a lot more thn I have I'll dfer to your apparent expertise.

Whatever way you want to catagorize him though, and he's half Black by the way, not pure Samoan, he'd be as close as you could get (in a physical sense), and I'm not sure the part calls for great acting skills as much as it does pure presence.

I certainly don't agree that the Rock would be the closest you could get to Khal Drogo. Maybe if you are only looking at A list Hollywood actors, if you can call him A list. He doesn't look nearly convincing enough in my opinion. Everything from the colour of his skin to the shape of his eyes is wrong to me. I'd much sooner see someone with the facial structure of Ken Watanabe (Last Samurai) play Drogo but he certainly doesn't have the body for it.

I'd be put out if Dwayne Johnson got the part of Khal Drogo, but it wouldn't stop me from watching the series.

Straight from the horse's mouth (or email, I guess) - GRRM says he pronounces Jaime as 'Jay-mee'. Its how I pronounce it anyway, so I'm happy to go along with GRRM on this one :)
That's what I thought until someone posted a few years ago that it rhymes with lame. I'll not believe anything else until Wert tells me.

p.s. I think that Wert is secretly GRRM's editor's hairstylist's cousin's kid's swim teacher. How else could he possibly have so much inside information?

I am the Varys of ASoIaF fandom.

Erm, although fortunately not in all respects.

So it wouldn't be thought crass to make cutting remarks, then?

Thank goodness for that.

Bald, castrated and high-pitched?

Not yet, I'm pleased to say (and even though it has been quite a few decades since I was a little shaver).

Back on topic....

Whether Maoris, etc., might be taken as being Middle Eastern depends on whether the producers are looking for stereotypical Middle Easterners. (I'm guessing they are, or why mention it?)

As with any area that has been involved in foreign trade for centuries, there are people born in the Middle East from families that have lived in the region for generations who would look like Lawrence Makoare in that photo on Wiki (although most of them would be a lot smaller).

Wert, thanks. You are truly a fountain, nay... a spring, nay... a veritable geyser of erudition.

TK, from your link... to the next link by that same poster...

Ok, there are 4 pages of scenes in Jaime's sides.

From "Jamie Lannister scene 1 page 20":

FYI: He's described as being in his 30's. His name is typed both as "Jamie" and as Jaime" in the scenes, so if I spell it wrong anywhere, that's why.

Jaime opens a door and interrupts Tyrion and a redheaded prostitute in a whorehouse. He tells Tyrion that he's going north with the King and Queen, and says that Tyrion can go north too if he can find his pants. Tyrion asks why they're going north, and Jaime tells him, "The King has chosen his Hand. And no one's going to be happy about it."

From "Jamie Lannister scene 2 of 2 page 34":

Cersei, Ned, Catelyn, Tyrion and Jaime are in this scene, at a banquet table. As Cersei and Catelyn are talking, Jaime pushes his chair back and stands, blocking Ned's path as he's trying to pass behind Jaime. Ned doesn't want to talk to Jaime, but Jaime keeps blocking his way. Jaime mentions that the King has promised a tournament to celebrate Ned's new title. Ned says he doesn't fight in tournaments. Jaime says that he hopes Ned takes the King's offer but he knows the court hasn't been kind to Stark men. He reminds Ned that he was a witness to the tragedy involving Ned's father and brother. Jaime says he supposes it's some consolation that justice finally came to their killer, and there's no need for Ned to thank him. Ned asks if it was justice he was thinking of when he shoved his spear in the Mad King's back. Ned pushes past Jaime as Jaime gives a final remark: "The worst king in a thousand years... and people treat me like some back-alley cutthroat."

Tyrion has overheard Jaime and Ned, and he grins at Jaime and raises his tankard in toast

I'm not really familiar with the nature and lengths of scripts, but if Jaime's still in KL on page 20, then how are they ever going to fit AGOT into ten episodes?!?!

So in that brief description... I've learned that Jaime is a kingslayer and a jerk. I also learned that Tyrion likes to drink and screw. Looks like they're following the script... except for the fact that Eddard claims that Jaime killed Aerys II with a spear.

I think we can be pretty certain that Bran will be dropped; and in the pilot. ;):)
