The End of Time (pts 1&2): Final DT episodes

re: The End of Time (pts 1&2): Final DT episodes

On the falling issue - the presumption was that because the Master was using his "lifeforce" to almost fly in the first episode, that the Doctor therefore did something similar to slow his own fall to be survivable without using up too much lifeforce.

But as Dave pointed out much earlier, it was a fall of a couple of storeys from a satellite dish that killed Tom Baker's incarnation!

re: The End of Time (pts 1&2): Final DT episodes

Wait a minute! The master was 'flying' like a hopping flea using bright flashes of something (electricity) to push himself up off the ground, the doctor had no such flashes coming from his hands, he was just falling (As far as I could see). Maybe the Doctors life force that was coming from his hands was invisible to BBC cameramen!

What happened to the Master, by the way? Did he die from using up all of his life-force? Get whisked away back to Gallifrey with the rest of the Time Lords? Three adults watched the show in this house, and as far as any of us could tell he just disappeared during the commercial break. (I watched that part a second time, and I still couldn't see what happened to him.) Maybe there was some editing done before the episode crossed the Atlantic?

Nope, it was the same here.

It's my guess he was sucked into a plothole which, if you know your science, is a a greater menace than a wormhole but not quite so serious as a blackhole...

The Master will, of course, return. The Cult of Saxon was a bit silly, if you ask me. Hope they don't come back.

So you think the Master will return, but with a new Angle, perhaps.

Better acting in the part would be my wish; I'm not holding my breath.

Was reading today that Moffat is going to make the series a lot scarier than in the past. Lots of death and dark fairy tales. Can't wait

I was wondering the same thing, and watched it a second time; the last you see of the Master, he seems to be within the sphere of influence of the Timelock, as his outlines begin blurring in the same fashion as the rest of the group, until he becomes nothing more than a vague blur. It is very easy to miss, but it does seem to be there.

Which, is correct, means he is now trapped in the same situation as the rest of the Time Lords. (Of course, the likelihood of that remaining the case is somewhere around nil....)

Too true, after all it was never explained how he returned from his disintegration.

Exactly what I want to hear. Less silly manic-ness and more creep, please.:)

re: The End of Time (pts 1&2): Final DT episodes

Me too.

(But nearly anything that would reduce the 'silly manic-ness' would be a big improvement.)

It looked like it from the trailer, didn't it?

JD, I'll have to watch that scene a third time then so I can see the blurring. (Then I can tell the rest of the family, "Ha! He blurs." As I remember it, the Doctor was between him and the other Time Lords, in which case he would have been within the sphere of influence, too. I'll have to check to see where he is standing, too.

The Master uses his inexplicable lightning attack on Rassilon (interesting name, I thought, given the Five Doctors appearance) and moved towards him and the big medical thingy. The Doctor was further away. But yeah, then he blurs, and as others have suggested probably fell into a plot hole.

My money's on, oh well, either Doctor's mother, Master's mother, Romana's future regeneration, Donna (somehow)... or just some random Time Lord who still has a sense of decency, honour and duty.

I found this at Wikia Entertainment:

During filming, newspapers The Daily Mail and The Daily Telegraph announced that Claire Bloom would be portraying the Doctor's mother. [1] However, the character was never explicitly identified as such during the special, but the Doctor did react strongly to seeing her.
In commentary for The End of Time part 2, it was confirmed by Julie Gardner in the later commentary that the Woman is the Doctor's mother; Russell T. Davies came to agree with the decision.

Agree, but unfortunately still expect the Master to return.

Actually think the Master has been a very weak character so far - a poor finale to Seasons 3 and 5.

More Cybermen please. :)

I find that interesting because twice now in this "new" series they have also made reference to the Doctor's childhood being spent alongside the Master in the "red grass of Gallifrey". There was some Internet chatter a few years ago about the Master being the Doctor's brother. It seems to me that they may be leading up to this as a bombshell to be dropped into the next series.

Only I was always told to beware the appearance of the "evil twin" in any SF series. It usually signals the tilt towards the end!

The last refuge of soaps, as well, revealing previously unknown family ties ... I seriously hope wiser minds will prevail.

re: The End of Time (pts 1&2): Final DT episodes

The Master in New Who has been pants. A hyperactive numpty who died and got brought back ridiculously. Agree that the cybermen have been a better villain. New Master needed. Better actor, must be equipped with either serious gravitas (Jacobi could've been great) or an evil beard.

re: The End of Time (pts 1&2): Final DT episodes

Jacobi was a treasure of an opportunity that they half-used and half-threw away - imho
