The official ADWD "Pick the Announcement Date" thread

As we know from the page counts the book is nearly done (one way or the other, either completion or getting too long and having to be split), so I think him putting up a 'Soon' comment isn't necessarily telling us anything we don't know. He hasn't said 'imminent', after all, so I wouldn't expect a completion announcement in Chicago, but I also expect more info from there, maybe a page count and more info on what the comment means.

I hope you're right.

(However, as I only read the books in the last couple of years, I'm not so hung up about the completion date as some: I haven't had to wait five years since the last one.)

Most important to me is not the publication date, but that the quality is maintained throughout however many pages it is. (Not that I don't think GRRM can't deliver, it's just I wouldn't want him to produce anything that seems rushed. I think my wish should be granted on this. :))

Ditto, Bear.

Now if soon means tomorrow, then TK wins this contest...

Murphy - the fact that you've reduced TK to 'chump' while leaving Quick Ben happily sitting there with his ultra-optimistic guess suggests you have a particular gripe against TK...

Just made me smile is all.

even funnier is that i've completely misread your list (it's very late here in the Uk and this proves I should probably hit the sack).

I also see that 'chump' is, in fact, someones heading...

Thank you and Goodnight everybody!

I'll go with May 30th for the completion announcement.

Was going to go with September 21st, but realised its taken, so decided to be optimistic and peg this date as the publication release!

Awesome!

Besides, I'm notoriously bad with due dates...

Out of curiosity, is it just dance that he is currently working on for ASoIaF? I had heard he may also be building towards the final installments, or a split installment...?

From what he's blogged, he's also working on the HBO script for ASOI&F.

I don't forget that no year is specified in those latest lists of dates. ;)

I think that A Dance with Dragons has to be the most eagerly awaited novel on the whole of the internet. I've been looking through various fansites and read George's "Not a Blog" and I'm amazed at the amount of interest - and even more surprised by some of the negative comments made towards George by supposed "fans". I have to say I am looking forward to the next novel in the series but there's so much other quality literature out there to read in the meantime. With it taking so long for George to write A Dance with Dragons does anyone knoe if it's estimated the following novel will take a similar amount of time or has George been working on them simultaneously?

Work has definitely been done on The Winds of Winter, although it's unclear how much. GRRM has mentioned that he has moved some material that was orginally intended fpr ADWD to TWOW.

I assume it will be just as long for tWoW, if not longer. Remember, a lot of aDwD was done as well. Not being pessimistic, mind, just realistic, and if it comes early, than it'll be a nice surprise.
