The official ADWD "Pick the Announcement Date" thread

I gather the "Date" is at the time G. Martin puts it up on his website? Im in Australia, we are ahead of the times. If he does announce things im more than likely going to be a day ahead. Do I still get the credit?????? huh??? well??????

I'll call a meeting of the contest sub-committee that handles entry rules and we'll discuss if for a few weeks, then send it to the full committee for further debate. Once we have a consensus we'll send it to GRRM who will do numerous re-writes of the rules, and maybe even split the entire contest into two separate ones people east of GMT and people after. This may take quite a while, but the end product will be worth it :D

SS, I assure you that if the scenario that you created occurs you'll win exactly the same thing as someone in the "correct" time zone
 
At this time of year, I'm not sure anyone is on GMT. (We here in the UK are not; we're on BST.)

By the way, GMT returns in the early hours of Sunday 31st October 2010.

I I meant the international date line, which.
 
Perhaps the spirits were talking to you. (They do stay in the blood for quite a while. ;):))


So perhaps the announcement will be made on or after October 31st.

I completely missed page six of this thread. Who will post the news first? Going out on a limb and choosing me would mean the limb would snap, down you go. or am I bluffing? I could secretly be George, so ofcourse I would announce the news first. Im currently writing the book.

I'm going to go with Imp, on the guidlines he has had his morning coffee that day. Your my boy, Imp!

I hope you're read up through A Feast For Crows... if you are not, then please be careful here... there are lots of references to peoples, events, and plots that are not labeled as spoilers. Basically, the assumption is that you are caught up if you're here... I think we're friendly to newbies, but these forums are not newb friendly.

Please don't feel bad when the date is August 6, just like I predicted.

I've yet to read ASoIaF; I had trouble finding the series for a long time. I now have A Game of Thrones, but have a couple of books to read before I get to it. So, all in all, I personally don't really mind that it's not out yet, as it gives me time to work my way through the first 4 books (or 5, if you count the fact that Book 3 has been split into two).

However, to put you guys out of your misery: A Dance With Dragons is supposed to be coming out on September 30, 2010.

If you want to re-read the earlier books to refresh your memory, I suggest you start soon.

Since you're new, DA, we'll just smile politely, nod, and wander over to the other side of the room now.

I'm not sure where you got that date (Amazon?) but it's unoffical and highly optomistic. Martin hasn't finished the manuscript yet - and from all accounts he isn't even real close to it (closer than he was, yes, but a ways off still). Even were he to finish it later today, it still probably wouldn't be out this year.
