I have quite a large cumbersome list of favorite tales this month that I have a pondered and pondered over. I think I have can chip away at it a little more and get it down to 3 or 4 absolute, maybes. Oh, and I hope for my sake, that no one submits anything brilliant last minute because it will throw off my whole process I've got going :)

Actually, I am quite astounded that folk are coming up with so many ideas in so few words.

Voting has begun!

The rules for the voting are as follows:

***Any member of the Chrons may cast a vote, even if they did not enter a story for the challenge***

*Please do not vote for yourself*
*You may only cast one vote*
*The poll will end at 11:59 pm on Monday, May 31st 2010 (GMT)*

The winner will decide the challenge theme for June!

Good Luck Everyone!!!

The Stories!

Vote!

I for one am glad we settled on 75 words.

Imagine reading 500 words x 43 entries.

Now don't cause people to panic at the number, TEIN. There were only 42. I am amazed that we were able to equal the number of entries that we had last month, since I was sure there would be a sharp drop.

Congratulations to everyone who entered. Once again, you met the challenge!

My vote went to Mouse, with Talysia running a close second.

Looks like we start this month's voting as we left last month's - neck and neck, with five stories sharing six votes.

whoo I got a mention. BS I really hope mine didnt inspire the nightmares that i get on friday evenings!!

I didnt need to roll dice this month. I went with Seph's and Bookstop ran a close second for me.

Aw, thanks for the mention, Cul.:)

My vote went to Seph, but it was a tight thing - Chris, Mouse, Stormfeather and HJ's were a very close second. Well done everyone!

I voted for Mouse, but both Harebrain and Talysia's stories were very close contenders, and there were several others I really liked as well - Devils Advocate, Lenny, TheDustyZebra, Moonbat, TEIN and HJ's stood out for me, but lets face it there were so many good stories it was hard to pick just one...

But I managed it in the end ;)

I also voted for Mouse, but it was very difficult to make that final decision. So many good stories to choose from.

I found this even tougher than last time. Mouse's was great (and deserves special mention for ruining Disney forever with one word: "things"); Quokka's elicited a very loud groan; I didn't get what was hidden in Parson's but found it strangely compelling anyway; I liked The Judge's for its rhythm, neatness and reversal, and Boneman's made me laugh with its doomedness. The list could go on ...

But in the end, the power of Teresa's just stood out too much not to vote for it.

Thanks to those who've voted for mine. I must say I was surprised -- since it got only one, late, mention before the close, I was resigned to it having sunk without trace.

Thank you, HareBrain!

My short list was 13 stories long (yep, that was my short list and there were six or seven stories that barely missed being included on that).

I'm not going to give the whole list, but in addition to the stories I mentioned earlier in this thread, I really liked "Home Again" by mosaix, and both "The Moment of Truth" by ctg and "Solitary" by The Procrastinator struck strong sentimental chords with me.

And thanks to pyan's hint to look for something, I found the poetic device in TheDustyZebra's and was much impressed with how beautifully that was done, without seeming forced at all. (I've seen that sort of thing done before, and the result was very artificial.)

Still trying to find the secret of Parson's. I've identified the parable -- which, considering the name, can hardly be the mysterious something -- but several attempts have failed to turn up any hidden word-play. If it's an anagram, I'm pretty hopeless at those.

i had a list of 6 or 7 myself, but in the end i just went with gut feeling and HJ's Kipling-esque escape took the cake (as t'were).

Had an initial shortlist of 20

Now almost have it down to 6, or 7 . . . maybe 8.

Really hard to decide - maybe a decision made by the dice. . . or the coin . . .

I think that the calibre of stories this month are just brilliant, and there are great ones from some new names too. If I listed all of the ones I liked, I'd be writing up pretty much every entry.

Going to have to think about it some more:eek:
