Some of your favorite stories in the Writing Challenge -- NOT for voting.

Thanks to The Procrastinator for considering my entry. I appreciate it.

As for my favourites? I must say, unlike last time (where Boneman's had been my fav from the get go) I'm really having trouble this time around. A lot of good entries. I'm going to think over it a couple of days, but here's the seven that made my shortlist (in no particular order):

> Home Again by mosaix - I like the contrast with other stories, i.e. that the protagonist wants to get back in, as opposed to get out. By the way, is he a prisoner or a patient in a mental health facility? I can picture it both ways...
> Seduction by Teresa - Beautifully written, and very evocative.
> To The King by Leisha - Another one I found quite evocative, and a little sad.
> The Final Escape by Robin Goodfellow - For the sheer daring in writing only 19 words.
> Centrifugal Force by TheDustyZebra - I missed the wordplay the first time I read it, and only just saw it two minutes ago. I loved the way it was done, and for the moment, this is my leading contender.
> A Fairy Tale Ending by Mouse - "She made us do... things" Now there's a side of Snow White we weren't familiar with...
> A Hopeful Case? by Sephiroth - I love the way it's written. I don't understand a word of it (not your fault; I'm just a bit thick ) but I love the writing.

Decisions, Decisions. ;)

I just had to vote for Family Matters by Crystal Haven - for me, "escape" is something positive, so all the gloomy stories had to go... now, if the subject had been "death" or something else gloomy, I might have made a different choice.

Anyway, I liked the hopeful tone in Family Matters, as well as the depiction of why the escape was happening. There were a lot of very good entries, though, and it wasn't an easy decision.

...I'm rambling, I tend to do that when I'm multitasking!

Edit: Come to think of it, maybe I'm just too simpleminded and a lot of the seemingly gloomy stories did have a lot of hope in them - if so, I just didn't get it. ;)

I have a problem seeing the voting!

I voted earlier, on a different machine, and now when I go to see the votes I am asked to vote again, which I can't do of course without voting twice!

Any way round this?

Thanks for the mentions BTW. Talysia got my vote this month, I almost voted for Chris again but 'Breaking Free' won it in the end.

Mouse was a close one for me this month, but in the end I decided my mood was set for something a bit darker - so I went with TE's.

Right down the bottom of the page you should see an option to 'View Results' or similar.

HareBrain for me. Mouse neary had it but in the end I liked HB's double plotline.

Aww, thanks Teresa and Devil's Advocate! I'm honored to be in the "mentions"! And thanks to Parson for sneaking me out there. :)

I don't know what on earth I'm going to do with my vote this month--my short list is sitting at 16!

Some that I like that haven't been mentioned yet are Quokka's "Domain", Chel's "By Chance", Lenny's "The Temptress", Chopper's "Now, Voyager", Digs' "Shadowless", Mygoditsraining's "Weigh Anchor...", and Ursa Major's "...Execution".

I must confess, though I wrote incomprehensibly myself, there are quite a few that I am still scratching my head about.

Thanks for the mention, The DustyZebra.

Okay, the choice for me is between, in order of original posting:
  • Labyrinth by chrispenycate (and not only because it's a story about something we face every day).
  • A Fairt Tale Ending by Mouse. ("They said I was grumpy." :D)
  • A Hopeful Case by Sephiroth (who was boxing clever with this poem).
Honourable Mentions go to:
  • Home Again by mosaix
  • Escape, or, Now Voyager by chopper
  • The Words by Boneman (which really made me laugh)
  • Solitary by The Procrastinator

Okay. Decision Time.

A Hopeful Case by Sephiroth. Cleverly put together and it hides its explanation in full sight (even daring to use a name). Excellent.

No, I'm sorry, I've just got to have three votes next time - it's impossible to separate so many good stories, and I want to reward more than one! (Thinks to self - join the chrons with three different identities, and have my cake and eat it too...)

Has anyone else noticed that, as soon as the 'edit' period runs out after posting, you get a truly great idea of how to improve it?

So the three I would have given points to, are:

Weigh Anchor Muttley - MyGodItsRaining
The Wrong Escape - Harebrain
Labyrinth - Chrispenycate

But they were only a gnat's whisker in front of:

It's all in the execution - Ursa Major
Home again - Mosaix
A Fairy Tale Ending - Mouse
The Temptress - Lenny

And there were others that were just a micron behind those...

Thanks to everyone who's mentioned me! :) I seem to be getting 'a close second' a lot. Always the bridesmaid, me... *sigh*

Anyway, I've not voted yet as I haven't read them all through yet. But I do know who I'll vote for, unless I see a better one when reading again!

I do like HareBrain's, Chris's, and The Judge's at the mo.

I found this even tougher than last time. Mouse's was great (and deserves special mention for ruining Disney forever with one word: "things")

I forgot to add to my last post: MWAH HA HA HA HA! *cough* That's my evil laugh. :D

Here's my list to choose from, although I haven't made my decision yet:

Talysia - surprising, beautiful - an interesting take on the theme
Chrispenicate - LOL! Really did make me laugh. There is no exit - we just stumble around the corridors until we turn up in the Lounge again. :D
Sephiroth - intelligent, thought-provoking - one of the highest standards this month
Teresa - Well written, interesting, with a tale that's bigger than the 75 words
Ursa - can be read on different levels, smartly done - brilliant execution

Parson's entry gets a special mention from me, for the fun "escape" (took two reads before I got it, though); the same for Mosaix, for his twist.

Thanks for my mention, too. It's always a nice surprise to read your name listed. :)

I'm with Boneman - I want more votes!!

My final 3 were:

HareBrain - The Wrong Escape
Mouse - A Fairy Tale Ending
The Judge - Living the Dream

Those that made the longer short list were

mygoditsraining - Weigh Anchor Muttley . .
Boneman - The words
Teresa - Seduction
Talysia - Breaking Free

And honourable mentions go to:

dwndrgn, EmilyMarie, Heoru, Robin Goodfellow, Digs, ctg, Crystal Haven, Vector7, Lenny . . . . the list just goes on!!

Can you tell that I had a hard time deciding?

After another read through, and last minute changes of mind, I finally voted for Mouse, because your story made me laugh out loud the first time I read it, and still makes me smile.

PS - Thank you The Judge & Taly for mentioning me. I did a little dance of joy!

StormFeather, you've just made me smile. If I could hug you through the internet I would.

Thanks for all the mentions in this thread. I feel out of my depth as a writer here, but I thoroughly enjoyed all of the PM's I got from people who let me know that they found their "escape" in my story.

Leisha: Two reads?! Your eye must be the only thing sharper than your wit.

Yes, it was Harebrain's for me, hands down, because I could only laugh and shake my head about his character's situation. One slip of the tongue and bam, your life is over. It often does happen that way, does it not? :D

If we had been allowed two votes, however, TE's would have been a good second choice in my book. :)

Parson - I read it through once, got to the bit about sending you a PM, and went through it again to see what stood out... and the certain word choices did. :)

But wow, I wish I could say I was sharp! Most days I'm sluggish (probably the most sluggish person you're ever likely to meet). I love puzzles, though. Your entry was fun - reader participation.
