Discussing the Writing Challenges -- November and December 2010

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

He's not in trouble, we appreciate the joke, but we have to at least make an attempt to be even-handed in the way we apply the rules.

Otherwise, someday, in some other situation where multiple identities are being used for purposes less playful and harmless, there could be an extra layer of unpleasantness if the person we are dealing with is able to say, "You let chopper get away with it."

(And think about my position. Do you think I wanted to do something that caused the number of stories to fall below 40?)

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Apologies to all: that would be me, causing trouble again...

In all the excitement of brainstorming, plotting, writing and posting, I neglected to check some fundamental rules.

TDZ has spotted the point of the story, but both Teresa and Chrispy are right: rules exist for a reason.

Now go and repost that story!

(Causing trouble "again"? Where was I when you were causing trouble before?)

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

I don't know, was it really such a big deal for a temporary account for a story? I thought chopper's idea was pretty cool. It's not like it was used to spam the forums or break other rules. It could have just been left alone until after voting and then deleted. Especially if he kept in the rules of a single entry with that new account.

Rules do have a purpose. But this is The Chrons, where we try and have as much fun with our preferred entertainment.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Hmm... I saw it as someone [...] posting the story from a disguise, thus keeping within the theme--because to me, the story itself was not about disguise, so the part that was in theme was that it was a disguised poster.
One could say that the location of the disguise was axiomatic (at least with reagrd to one meaning of that word).

Apologies to all
No need to apologise.

But who is Steve...?;)

By the way, I suspect that, come voting time, some of us may require recourse to use other "special" uses of the theme, Disguise. (And not just with regard to hidden meanings....)

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Shingetsu: It was cool, we all enjoyed it, now it's gone. He can repost it as himself.

I'm not going to recite the whole history of multiple accounts on this forum, the troubles they have caused, the times when the intent was harmless but they nevertheless caused confusion, etc. etc. etc. ... it's unnecessary, because the matter has already been resolved, and really, you guys don't need or want to know all of the things that moderators have to deal with. We deal with them so that you don't have to.

And this subject is done.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Absolutely you did not. Chris was confusing you with someone else.

And, speaking for myself, I was very glad to see you submit a story in the Challenge.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

chopper's idea still works! Now we'll never know which is real and which is the disguise: chopper or Disc Guy Zed...

Or are both disguises?

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Did I do something wrong?
Not at all. But we are clubbing together to get Chris a new pair of glasses.

And I'm also pleased you've posted in the Challenge, thwilli, and such a neat little story at that.

I see that a strangely familiar piece from that adora-bell Mr St Clements gives us 41 stories altogether. Shall we break the magic 42 this month? Ladies and Gentlemen, I think we shall!

And while we wait for the late-posters, has anyone got the disguised thingummy in Mouse's story yet? Can we have a clue or two here, please, because I'm flummoxed.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

It's not in the actual story... And it's really not that clever! :)

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

I have studied your story and the title of your story over and over, Mouse, and I am still mystified. It would seem to be concealed more artfully than you imagine.

Me too!

And I haven't had any success finding anything that wasn't immediately obvious in Judge's, either. Guess I should hang up my puzzle-solving mantle this month.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

There's nothing hidden - I suspect Mouse dropped that in to get folks to read it over and over and imprint it on minds. Crafty little devil...

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Oh, wait ... I had to cheat, but I now know the hidden thing. Very elegant. Good job, Mouse!

The July entry gives me Stephen King.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Well so much for the writing challenge losing steam this month. I think that what happened is that more and more of us understand that you have to be first rate to even rate around here.

Teresa: I am so jealous!! I've looked at Mouse's story dozens of times and have not come back with a whisper. The closest I got was to suggest that to Mouse that the time "A Face Mogul" was a clever way to call the unseemly hero a "pimple" --- "A Face Mogul" get it? But alas! Mouse just smiles at me and says, "No, that's not it!" Now that someone has actually gotten it I'm terribly downcast.

PS: Can you tell me how to cheat? It's not one of my better qualities.
