re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

You're smarter than I am.

Don't make I laff! When I said you're all geniuses, I meant all of you!

And yeah, you probably don't need to be too clever to write a story (example: me) but you have to be pretty clever to understand the rest of the stories in this challenge! I understand even less than usual this month. Can I blame my tiredness and lack of sleep, rather than lack of brain power? That saves me a slap, right? Right? :D

Even our feet? (http://www.sffchronicles.co.uk/forum/527995-what-shape-are-your-feet-serious-question.html.)

You could pretend to understand them in the way the rest of us do.

That saves me a slap, right? Right? :D
We can certainly save it for later if you want. ;):)

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Cool - I can get in on this thread and automatically qualify as a genius!

Hey Karn, hope you're doing well (the rib's fine btw :)).

Hi Mouse - your story has me stumped with regards to what you're disguising. I can only think there's a Michael Jackson reference in there somewhere...:D

And the Quatermass Experiment was, I believe, a book that was adapted into, possibly more than one version, of Hammer films. With alien, telepathic ants?

It would, if not for this:

Slap.

It's just a little warning tap this time, to show you that we mean business. But next time expect that wrist to be stinging, young lady!

SLAP!

no.

Wake up we don't pay you to be sleepy

As you can see, I'm not the sternest disciplinarian around here.

And (on a completely nondisciplinary note) a reminder to those who are still working on their stories: You have about four days left.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

...at which point all the fun of voting begins.

(And I'm being serious, for once. Honest. I really do like voting.)

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

That's right! And less for you, because you have to put the finishing touches on the poll in the last minutes.

The seconds are ticking away.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

I find it hard to disguise my panic...

Cul, do l detect the seed of a 75 word story here? As far as I can tell (See Mouse, I'm faking it as well) no story out there has the idea of disguising an emotion. :D

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Well that was the direction I was initially exploring, but nothing came together. I'll get something written in time, I don't doubt, but I probably won't be able to disguise its inferior quality.

Unless I push that's it's an incredibly superior story, disguised an an inferior one!

That could work. If you make it obscure enough, we may all decide that it's simply too deep for our shallow intellects.

But I'm hoping you will continue the story you began in the last Challenge ... if not this month, then soon.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Every time I picture the word 'disguise' my mind goes blank and there's this THWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP noise. Maybe next months challenge.

(Still gonna vote though, impossible a choice as that is)

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

As far as I can tell (See Mouse, I'm faking it as well) no story out there has the idea of disguising an emotion. :D

My initial story was based on that notion, but I discarded it in favour of the junk I put up. I felt it wasn't conveying the emotion as richly as I had hoped.

But now that I think about it, perhaps it would have been good to stick with it, if only to help it stand out...

For me (like J-WO) this month's theme was the hardest. The first three months I had an idea almost instantly (not that they were necessarily good), but it took me a while this time.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

I found this month's theme very tricky as well, but I finally found inspiration in my current WIP (as usual). I was even inspired to write a longer piece about how my main character really feels about his queen, which taught me a lot about him and his current predicaments.

...with the risk of going off-topic, raise your hands if you feel sorry for your main characters and what you're making them go through!

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Okay, I now have seventy-five words, put together in such a way as to not be immediately offensive. I'll give it overnight, and see if they remain unoffensive in the morning...
