re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Nice try, No One, but no one else is buying it. If, however, it is simply that curiosity is killing you, and you would like a private hint ...

It looks like Mouse and The Judge were the only ones who included hidden messages. Or at least they're the only ones who have owned up to it.

Well, if ever I included a hidden message in any of my stories, I would very much like someone to point them out to me. :p There's nothing that needs to be taken beyond face value as far as I know.....

But, who knows how someone will interpret something? :( If that's the case, I'd best be cautious about some things I post over....other places. :D

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

A few more interesting stories, and a good one by Cul, but I must sadly report none that have swayed my decision to change my previous decision for my vote for this month for the challenge for stories.

Yes, I said "for" four times. :p It's befitting for such a word. :p :D

I'm sure it's not your fault Karn. I wouldn't mind betting 'for' was one of the one's Cul had locked up in his dungeon. Now they are free to breath the smell of a 'fresh' new page and see the clear blue light of phosphorus let them enjoy themselves I say; the poor little fellas. Who knows what they were put through to give Cul that excellent entry; it must have been hell.

But should we be encouraging him, especially after what he's done?

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Hey, I was never anything but exceedingly pleasant to those words! Three squares a day, morning and afternoon excursions into the yard, phone calls to their loved ones once a day. Better treatment, altogether, than they'd get at the hands of some of the published hacks I've read...

Buying it? I don't even know what I'm selling! Now I'm really confused. And Judge has a hidden message too? Terrific.

And I initially thought Sleepless' story might have a hidden hint, but now I'm not so sure. And Learning, though that might be a case of deliberate ambiguity.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

If anybody does want to know, just PM me! :) It's really not as clever or exciting as people are making out though! :p

I'll take your word for it. :p :D

Honestly, this was a difficult month for me, and not only with this challenge. My submission wound up on page 2 as we remember, and that should mention some sort of....

Well, in either case, I've made my decision, and not even the Jaws of Life would be able to move me. :p

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

No One -- she says, in an unashamed bid to get a vote -- look at the title of mine and ask yourself why anyone would want to write something so damnably long...

And writing quickly, before shame can appear, just in case my pome was too obscure for those fortunate enough not to have suffered the same kind of classical education like what I've had, and more importantly so people can understand the brilliance of Chris's poetical response, here is a brief plot run down (should I put *un-spoiler alert* at this point???):

Zeus the King of the gods likes women. His wife Hera isn't happy at this, so when he plays away, he goes in disguise. He comes to Leda in the form of a swan and she eventually gives birth to two sets of twins (in two eggs, naturally). One of the daughters is Helen aka the eventual Helen of Troy who runs off with Paris. (He has been promised the most beautiful woman in the world by Aphrodite when he is judge in a goddess beauty pageant.) Cue irate husband, a large Greek Armada and ten years of the Trojan War including the killing of Hector.

As for Mouse's hidden message, No One, it's a story taken from Mage of Luca about an Italian wizard who travels around the Tuscan countryside in disguise... or perhaps not... ;)

Uh-Judge?

I do have to point one thing out-why did you use Zeus' greek name but his wife's Roman name?

:p I'm kind of picky about that sort of thing, actually.....I tend to see Roman mythology as the work of usurpers. :p Which is why I never use Roman names.

Cos I like to mix'n'match?

Changed now to appease our more sensitive patrons.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

I suspect that the answer may be about (or in) a periodical (hence clue of a mag).

Has he a Hera tic?

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

That's it! Mouse (hello by the way) expect a PM soon because Judge and Teresa (and Ursa in the time it's taken to write this) seem intent on compounding my confusion. Especially as I'm only very vaguely familiar with the Mage of Luca.

I do, however, know my Ilium from my elbow. I love mythologies and am more than familiar with the Iliad. That's why I was confused, wondering if there was something hidden within the interpretation (looks like I chose the wrong month to jump on board with the Disguide theme and all :D).

And a good spot from Karn (re: Juno/Hera). I wholeheartedly agree with Karn's use of the word usurpers!

Bloody Romans :D

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

OK, Judge's got now (finally!)

At this rate, we'll need a separate "Musings on the Hidden Meanings" thread.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

If we all see the hidden meanings, does this mean that they'll no longer be hidden?

(And I thought I was hinting heavily, not trying to confuse. In fact, No One was confused, on this at least.)

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

It's such a conundrum, Ursa! ;)

Or have I missed the boat on that one?!

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

*he reads Mouse's PM. Followed by head slamming on desk*

May I suggest the theme of disguise is never used again.

Mage of Luca, indeed! :D

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

You can't claim you weren't clueless, No One. ;):)

:D

This is me we're talking about. I don't even know what the Mage of Luca is! :p

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Doesn't he own the Magic Money Tree I've seen mention of in newspapers' readers' on-line comments?
