Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

Bah, I still have five days... but I rather like my current idea so I'll work on it!

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

Well, either that third idea came very quickly indeed, or you pruned the story down very neatly, Chel!

Welcome to the Challenge, Aty! A nice little story of friendship there.

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

It's actually the second version of the second idea. I ended up scrapping everything except the title and one sentence and rewrote the whole thing.... and that would sound very dramatic if it wasn't so short. ;)

As a note, my word count tools would see this-and-that as one word, so I had to be very careful. Now the word count ends up at 70, but my eyes say 74. Be careful.

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

Ah, April may have been the cruellest month, Teresa, but think of the inspiration for this month... and The Waste Land is as good a title for Urban Fantasy as I can think of!

I suppose I could write about the Red Rock Cafe in Rat's Alley: where the dead men left their bones and the cricket brings no relief ...*

Instead, I think I'll just stop brooding over the story I do have, cease tinkering with punctuation and obsessing over conjunctions, and post the darn thing.

*Although, when one thinks about it, just what sort of relief might a cricket have to offer anyway? Perhaps one of our poetry experts can explain.

Perhaps it's not a cricket, just cricket. Though, frankly, the way the England team plays at times, that doesn't bring any relief, either...

And moving from Eliot to Milton, at least so far as the title is concerned, I love the story!

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

Wow, is that SEVEN stories today!?

Probably a bad time to post then, but as usual after being on the verge of conceding defeat I get an idea that's a bit of fun, so I ran with it. At 120 or so words I thought I'd sit on it and see if anything else came up. That was before fragmenting the sentences brought the count down and, I hope, helped improve the context of the story.

In other news, despite earmarking many stories, I've yet to find a clear favourite (with a few stories to come of course). Another difficult few days of voting ahead...

Something regarding the challenge popped into my head a few moments ago, but it was only a tumbleweed (one of the ordinary sort).

:(

A Tale of Two Tumbleweeds?

I know I know, I'm a veritable font of ideas...

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

"Yes, our friendship was blown up out of all proportion, but when he deserted me, it still came as a blow."
I'm not sure that could be edited to give it a more urban feel, really.

There's plenty of room in there for it to blow about a bit:)

Oops wrong thread

Sorry

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

GOODNESS. Just realized I had my dates mixed up. Was thinking I had until 5/28/11 to post. I better get into gear. I'm pretty lost this month. I just can't seem to wrap my head around "friends in a city with magic"... well at least I have two fall backs to select from.

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

Now that's all posted, I might actually be able to sleep...

Well now, strictly speaking, you don't just have to have magic -- fantasy is a wide category. :)

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

What's with all these sudden posts? I'm going from complacent because I'm on top of things, to suddenly being behind by a long shot with my comments.

I'll have to work like a tumbleweed in a whirlwind.

(Don't know where that image came from)
