Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

Congratulations Chris! A well deserved win.

This makes me intrigued and worried (in a good way) about next months parameters!

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

Well done Chris, a well-deserved win against incredibly tough opposition. I really found it so hard to separate you from Mosaix, but many congrats. Change your style completely, and win the challenge... hmm...

And thank you to all those who mentioned my effort.

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

Congrats Chrispy! And thank you for the mention, TJ :)

This month's challenge was the toughest so far for me, especially considering I took a punt and had a go at being autobiographical. I think I simply tried to cram too much into those 75 words, so a little backstory/explanation for anyone who's interested (I won't be offended if folks skip this, I swear :p)

As a teen I spent a massive amount of time in my own company, wandering around my neighborhood and along the beach at the bottom of my street, willing the world to be more than the mundane that seemed to satisfy my friends and family. I had a number of supernatural experiences in my formative years (ghosts, freakishly strong deja vu et cetera), and consequently I think a part of me clung to the hope that I would wake up one day and find myself a mage, or a psychic or something. One by one, consciously or unconsciously, those preteen dreams and illusions fell away, and now there's only the one 'voice' left, my writing. The song reference (good catch, Spurring Platty), for those of you who don't know was Landslide by Fleetwood Mac, written by the lyrical and poetic genius of Stevie Nicks. That sense of sad joy, of melancholy sweetness reflects precisely how I feel about the girl I once was, leaving some things behind in order to grow and move on with one's life.

Anyway, now I have that out of the way... I'm really looking forward to whatever Chrispy throws our way for June. I think perhaps I might have to try my hand at something a little lighter. If nothing else, taking part in the challenges seems to be showing me I have a strong inclination toward dark themes :O

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

I suppose that there's a good chance there could be dragons in Chris's choice. If he does choose them as a subject, I do hope he avoids the Mundane SF sub-genre. ;):)

I never did like Fleetwood Mac or Stevie Nicks. Personally I find lyrical and poetic genius to be more descriptive to Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull...and no, I have no plans for using any Jethro Tull songs in this challenge.

Depending on what genre Chris uses dragons could be a strong possibility for my entry....poor things are always getting a bad rap though, with one or two exceptions out there...

Ha! You know what, Lola? I would never in a million years have guessed it, but that's what the Challenges have shown me about my writing, too!

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

I've worked out my challenge well in advance, although I'm a bit shocked to find myself using it, particularly with that entry; perhaps I should concentrate on "weird" in the future.

Many thanks to everyone who voted for me; I will go back and check who I've not already thanked individually; I think it's The Judge, HareBrain and StormFeather. Thank you all.

So, do we really need to wait all that tiebreaker time (Hey! Grins maniacally. I didn't even get a tie break. For something that was so evidently insane. I'll swear I really believed that getting one or two votes was already magnificent, but I'm afraid I can't hide how good winning makes me feel.) or shall I post my ever so simple subject right away?
