Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

I am new here - so I took it at face value.
:DGrim

Me too! Oops.

I was seeing Stalingrad in 1942/3. That's probably one of the great things about 75 words - it's harder to say so much you get in the way of what the reader wants to think.

Thank you TheEndIsNigh. :) It was completely unexpected too.

That is one of the wonderful problems with this challenge. So many great stories that I end up wanting to vote for everyone and when I compare my own story to them I always feel that I come up short. I honestly can not wait to see what is in store for us next month.

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

Voting for me was very difficult. There was such a variety.
Even some song-inspired titles (Mirror in the sky, what is love?, We built this city with rock hard trolls)

I narrowed my list down to nine, and then further down to six.
The End Is Nigh - Urban Meths
reiver33 - Imperfect Day
HareBrain - The Rebels
Moonbat - Blob's Your Uncle
Stormfeather - Friends Forever
The Judge -- Philiapolis (or City 4, Wolves 0)
J Riff - ONLY IF YOU SAY PLEIADES
mosaix - Kindred Spirit
onebigpotato - A mothers worst nightmare

And I truly cannot decide which to vote for. Each one had something I really enjoyed. So I'm taking the easy way out.
Last month I was unable to cast my vote for Stormfeather. (Tornadoes caused a city-wide power outage that lasted five days.) All things being pretty much even, I'm letting that tip it in Stormfeather's favor.

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

My shortlist:

psychotick
chrispenycate
Teresa
BookStop

And I voted for chrispenycate, based partly on 'busked insensitive' (this especially), 'I ooze platform-edgeward' and 'Train arrives, disgorges, reengorges...' So great.

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

Thanks for the mention, No One.

As usual, I have an overlong short list, but I'm sure I'll whittle it down to a winner by the deadline.

Probably.

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

Wow guys! 2 votes, this is gob smackingly-fantasticaroony. I had to make up a word just to say how great it is. Thanks Moonbat and Aun D :).

FYI "gob smackingly-fantasticaroony" can now be used as one word in future competitions.

Hate to be a downer but AD voted for Golden Apples (and deservingly so!). My thanks though remain for commenting so vividly.

Ouch! That'll teach me to type when tired. I did mean to vote for one big potato, but I may have a blind spot with apples and potatos (I was rubbish at French!) Its no (golden) wonder that I am mixed up. Apologies to both, as they are great stories.

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

Ok, there seems to have been another couple of accidents. I have two votes. Crazy people. (But thank you muchly!) :D

As for me, voted for TDZ. <----- there's another poem for you all. ;)

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

Higs Dugs – no, Digs hugs.

That's the mostest votes I've ever had.

So, this is a bit early, but I'm out over the weekend, so;

Submitted but not yet voted:- Allanon, Arkrose, Bookstop, Christian Nash, Cornelius, crys, Devil's Advocate, Evelinn, Goldenapples, HareBrain, Hilarious Joke, Hoopy Frood, J Riff, Michelle Anne, reiver33, Teresa Edgerton, The Judge, and Ursa Major.

Didn't submit this month but still voted:- Hex, Oxman and RSliwinski.

And voted never having entered, Grimbear and L D Warne.

so, there's plenty of time yet; and plenty of opportunity to turn everything upside down, with that many outstanding poll entries.

And that many outstanding stories, too; nobody feels like making it easy to choose, do they?

I'm still vacillating, but I think I'm coming close to making a decision.

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

NO ONE: Thanks for the mention I was hoping that someone would like the story. I thought it was pretty good but it hasn't seemed to be catching people.

No problem Parson. I thought your story had a real gravitas to it, which appealed to me, as well as being excellently written.

Me too! Oops.

That's great! As you say, it's the ambiguity of the 75 words, plus the fact that I didn't want to make too obvious a reference.

A war is a war I guess, whoever (or whatever) is on the other side.

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

Yowza! That's my mostest votes ever, as well!

Thanks to Mouse, Brev and mosaix (and High Eight again, just for good measure) for those lovely votes!

And thanks also for recent mentions from HareBrain, Hex and onebigpotato.

Chrispy, there's one more to add to your "voted without submitting this month" list, as I bullied ...err... talked RSliwinski into voting. :)

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

Thank you, oh dusty one (the other dusty one being involved in maternity); oversight corrected.

I feel those brave souls who come in and comment despite having no direct pressure should be acknowledged somehow. And now I can.

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

I could see who'd voted for which stories before I'd voted, but now that I have I can't see that any more (just the anonymous results). Does this happen for anyone else?

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

Wow, I mean...wow. To even get a mention on a site with this calibre of writers is amazing. But I got a vote? Wow. Thanks Nixie. And thanks to the others who found my simple scratchings worth mentioning. I'm in a genuine state of shock. Telford, grabs chest...signs off with thanks. Arrrrgggh.

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

I've been on a work trip and have to say it's very nice to come back to these mentions. Thanks to all!

Yes, the 'Vote Now' button disappeared after I voted and a message appeared saying, "You have already voted".

Shaken not stirred, I clicked on one of the underlined number in the votes column. Instead of waking the hounds of hell, the names of the voters returned once again. Phew! ;)
