Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

That William and Nancy sure got around, didn't they? I wonder why that pairing of names was thought to be so appealing?

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

Dicken's even let him kill her.

Don't think I've congratulated Ursa yet. :)

I've tried to inject a little humour this month not sure how successful it is.

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

Very successful, nixie. Your story made me laugh out loud. :):)

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

Unlike last month, during which nothing came together for me, I think I have an unusual take on Urban friendship.

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

Hey guys, err... what's the deal with kittens!? :O :) Two stories in the challenge thread are about kittens... O.O

Actually, they're my kittens. I introduced them in the July challenge, and brought them back for September, and they seem to have been going round seducing everyone they come across, as kittens will.

Beware sharp claws.

I've written a little piece, but I'm not sure if it fits the genre and theme. This is my first time to be on these challenges and I tried to do it right, but what if I'm mistaken? What's gonna happen if it's not the way it should be? :/

Then nobody will vote for it. Which, with the number of votes relative to the number of entries, is a very real possibility anyway, however good it is.

If it's the right length, set it up; have you seen how diverse entries get?

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

Not happy , I've had to really think about it this month!

(actually I'm really pleased as I couldn't simply rhyme the first thing that came off my tongue this time!)

Just took a bottle of beer to help bring about a little... inspiration.

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

Loving the theme Ursa - a great choice :)

Not that I have a clue as to what I'll be doing with it just yet.

Hm, kittens you say...?

 O-o... I will be careful!

Oh, okay. Thank you so much. :)

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

Posted earlier than usual this month. Nice challenge, I really enjoyed that. I wasn't sure if ''Metro-males'' would count as one or two words so I played safe and hyphenated it but counted it as two. Don't want to run the risk of another removal, nor do I want to be pestering the Admins/Mods every month.

On that topic, as a relative newcomer I find all the titles above people's avatars very confusing. Is there a list of the staff anywhere? Just curious, no big deal. :)

There is indeed, here -- but to be honest, it won't solve your confusion! Some of the named mods and supermods aren't active at the moment, and of those who are active, not all of them patrol Aspiring Writers. If it's a query about the Challenges, stick with this list (taken from the Writing Challenge Rules):
Culhwch, The Judge, Teresa Edgerton, chrispenycate, nixie, and pyan. If you direct your questions to any other moderator there may be a delay in receiving an answer.

^ Thanks!

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

If their fluffy wonderfulness isn't enough for some of you to desist from threatening kittens in your stories, perhaps this might:

Gregor Samsa, "waking up from anxious dreams", is transformed not into a cockroach but into an "adorable kitten" in The Meowmorphosis, the latest attempt to "remix" classic literature from US publisher Quirk Books.

The pseudonymous Coleridge Cook has married the text of Franz Kafka's masterpiece The Metamorphosis with his own story to create The Meowmorphosis, in which Gregor "wakes up late for work and discovers that he has inexplicably become an adorable kitten". Out next week, the book, revealed Quirk, sees the Samsa family "admit that, yes, their son is now OMG so cute – but what good is cute when there are bills to pay? How can Gregor be so selfish as to devote his attention to a ball of yarn? And how dare he jump out the bedroom window to wander through Kafka's literary landscape?"

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

Aaaaahhhhhh Just two more finals to go! two more and I can actually devote time, energy and brain cells to this challenge. It sucks because I keep wanting to focus on all the twisted . . . er I mean wonderfully friend based little ideas rattling around in my dried up old head but school keeps interrupting me.

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

Good luck with those finals, MstrTal. :)

You know the admins, Bryan, IBrian and Dave. I notice Brian hasn't been around for years; is he one and the same as IBrian or someone else?

Just being nosy:)

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

Adieu, sweet lovely Nancy, ten thousand times adieu
I'm a-going round the ocean, love, to seek for something new
Come change your ring with me, dear girl, come change your ring with me,
For it might be a token of true love while I am on the sea.

Enough of that!

My entry now in - more folklore, I'm afraid, and not much friendship either. Oh well, you can disqualify me if you think I have offended too much against the rules.

I'm not desperately happy with it anyway. I reckon that the end is too abrupt - It could have done with another ten or fifteen words. :)

Know what you mean. Mine's urban enough, but most of the fantasy was cut out with the last thirteen words that had to go. But my outer idea is still developing, and I'll be lucky if I can cut it down short enough to fit in critiques, let alone here.

No kittens, though. Must all have gone to somebody else, fickle little wretches.

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

Well mine's in. I have had some friends look over it after i posted it and they gave me a few pointers which I now wish I had done before posting, but it is what it is!

Re: DISCUSSION -- The 75 Word Challenge May 2011

Bit late but, Congratulations, Ursa! Interesting theme too.
