Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

No, TJ, I much agree with him, though of course I know of Kipling.

*sigh* I'm attempted this about five times now and everything I've come up with doesn't meet the requirements. :(:(:(:(:(

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

Wow. There goes my attempt at a perfect 12 months for 2011! Don't even know who that is!

Consider this an opportunity to continue your English Literature education. :p

Yes -- and if you start looking through his works, you may just find that you recognize some things you didn't know were his! Way back in this already long thread, there are some recommendations for where to peruse his works online. It's all public domain now, so you can find everything out there without laying out any cash.

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

Yes, well after reading the early entries, I am not at all encouraged. They all sound a lot like Kipling.

"Woe is me. I am undone."

or is it

"Is this a dagger I see before me?"

Er... Parson... either you have unclean lips or you're hallucinating en route to killing a king...

How about settling down and reading a nice story? Try The Butterfly That Stamped -- very calming.

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

Howdy,
I could not allow my brain to dwell on this any longer, so I knocked out something in 15 minutes. I know none of the rules of poetry, I spent nearly an hour doing research on that Kipling fellow. I probably should have spent at least another hour but it's sunny out today, anyway I threw in an IF and a 'ave at the end just for good measure.
I'm not sure if I captured the style of Rudyard ol' chap or Merle Haggard, might even be some Bob S.
Remember , it doesn't cost anything to be nice.
Bob

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

Great to have the poems beating prose this month (in quantity at least). I do think that the 75 word limit suits poetry better, especially - as has already been said - where Kipling is concerned.

Some great entries already - and such diversity considering the limitations imposed in style and theme ; I particularly like PM's follow-up to the Jungle Book , something I would never have thought of.

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

Alright, I have something out. I think it follows the Jungle Book, or what I know of it, closely enough to be considered in a Kiplingesque style, and it does have, an undertone at least, of nourishment....

Oi. Challenge indeed. I needed to break out of my comfort zone as far as genre went, I guess. And it's even in a different tense than I usually use. :D

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

Thanks for the mention PM.

I've not read any myself yet, thinking I'd start reading when I'm ready to start making my comments, but Chris' little twist this month has caught me out a bit. Should I make those little comments as I normally do, as I see the stories/poems or do I mention how Kipling I think they are, or do I do them in the style of Kipling himself???

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

Whatever you feel confident and capable of. Seeing replies in Kiplingese would be great though!

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

Or you could just put up pictures of cakes. :):)

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

That bad? You sure it's not the icing on the cake?

This is one way of filling the time before the voting starts, I suppose.
