Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

The thread's locked for the moment, so hold on a while longer.

Ok, will do.

Discounting the Just So stories ,I've not read Kipling before. I did find a number of his poems fascinating to read , and it's a pity that my entry will be a poor representation of the great man's work.

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

But you have 3½ weeks to perfect it and will still be posting something earlier than many of us.

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

Wow. I've always been a big fan of Kipling, but I have to admit I've never tried to write in any of his styles. Should be interesting!

I do wonder if perhaps the Kipling part ought to be larger type in the Challenge thread -- I knew I should be looking for it, having come to the discussion thread first, and still it didn't jump out at me. People who don't know they're looking for it might miss it entirely!

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

Hmmm Someone already mentioned Riki Tiki Tavi. I guess one could do a story about gaining nourishment from the gobbling down their defeated enemies. Those dang dirty snakes.

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

Well, Kiplings Wiki entry will have risen in popularity, perhaps Chris get's royalties from Kipling sales? Do we have some Chron deception and intrigue!? :p

What ever happened to Seprioth?

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

Howdy,
I'm with Karn on this one, what the heck do we have to do? Home Work !! I don't feel so good, I think I'm catching a cold or the flu, I might have a fever, can someone else do it for me, PLEASE !

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

Well, you certainly won't get Robert to do it, as he's off on a fishing trip! :D

Thanks, Karn, that's much better, although ...urm... not quite in the place I imagined?

I did find what appears to be the complete works of Kipling for my e-reader at Project Gutenberg, titled "Works of Kipling" -- 714 pages, and of course free. I have some Kipling around the house, but I think most of it is in boxes I don't feel like digging out today or any other day this month.

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

Howdy,
Hello Dusty Zebra, if the kid is busy maybe you might provide some info. I'm still trying to get a handle on this Kipling dude. Do you think that somewhere in that 714 pages of (did you say seven HUNDRED?) stuff It might mention if Mr Kipling may have written those Levi's commercials? Oh Pioneers, O pioneers, etc.?

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

I think my exposure to Kipling amounts to even less than most everyone else - I never even saw The Jungle Book, though I did watch a lot of TaleSpin when I was younger. So I might be able to manage a story about bears flying seaplanes, an orangutan barman and a tiger businessman...

Um, I think TaleSpin was only a Disney creation Cul....I used to watch that myself in my day.

I think I'd have to do something along the lines of The White Seal to really come up with anything....

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

I have written a little something (It's an ungodly hour in th U of K but I can't sleep!) - but I can't post it because the June challenge thread seems to be locked......

I'm off to bed now anyway. Hopefully things will be sorted tomorrow..... 'night all.

TaleSpin was awesome! Why wasn't I born a bear? (Are Kit and Ursa related?)

Well, a bit of strategic googling tells me that the commercials in question appear to be from a poem by Walt Whitman and not Kipling. Sorry about that!

You can actually read the epub files online at the Project Gutenberg site, without having an e-reader, if that would help! Go to http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/2334 and click on "read this ebook online" and it should bring it right up on that page. There are quite a few pages of legalese before the Table of Contents starts, so just keep clicking "next page" or enter "7" in the "go to page" box to get to the Table of Contents.
