Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

Wait, does this mean Kipling had nothing to do with Robin Hood either? Damn, there goes that story idea...
Holy nerds, now that Cul made the connection I just realised how much the snake from Robin Hood is a rip-off of the snake from The Jungle Book!

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

I can't post it because the June challenge thread seems to be locked......

It's locked because we thought people might like a little extra time to write their stories, but we're not opening the thread for the stories to be posted until June 1 or thereabouts.

Right now, it isn't thereabouts even in the Antipodes.

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

Robin Hood was largely cobbled together from animation from The Jungle Book, digs, merely sketched over with new clothes and accoutrements. Disney were always stealing bits and pieces of their own animation - do a Google search or look on youTube and you'll find plenty of examples, I'm sure...

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

I think this Challenge may not be as difficult as I thought. Already I have my first sentence:

There are nine and sixty ways of cooking scrambled eggs
And every single one of them is right.

No? Ah well, back to the collected works ....

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

Kipling: Obviously he was big at Disney and some other Hollywood studio's.

I assume the remarks about the cakes must be a joke and there isn't a factual connection, which is sad given the topic.

However was/is he famous outside the movie making industry?

I realise I could look him up on twitter, but I wouldn't want to go charging about, all guns blazing, and make a fool of myself.

If, any of you lot could throw some light on the matter, I'd be grateful for some guidance.

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

To see what Kipling is all about , read 'If' ; a truly remarkable poem and just as relevant today as the day it was written.

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

Love this month! I might not actually get anything finished, but at least I have ideas this time.

Would "Bi-Coloured-Python-Rock-Snake" count as one word or four/ five?

Incidentally, alchemist - loved your two extra stories, especially the second (although a troll talking about valid lifestyle choices was pretty wonderful too).

The two PM's think alike, I was about to suggest the same thing. If has been one of my favourite poems since I was first read it at school years ago.

And I think, when the BBC did the vote for the best poem a few years ago it was the clear winner.

Whoops, sorry! I was obviously being a bit over-eager there. Its just that (for once in my life) I had a good idea straight away. It can wait.

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

Some half-baked ideas coming through already...

Not a lot of people know this, but Michael Caine met his wife-to-be on the set of The Man Who Would be King... There's a 75 worder there, if you think obtusely enough!

LIES! They were married in '73. Film came out in December '75 :p

edit: (And yes. Sadly I did know this without having to look it up.)

Wasn't it something to do with an advert for coffee**?

** - Which is, allegedly, nourishment.

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

Well , that's certainly an eye opener.

Indeed. I believe it was a case of

Stalker sees girl on coffee add
Stalker obsesses over coffee girl
Stalker marries coffee girl

Truly one of the greatest love stories ever told. (And a prime example of why stalking is a good thing :D. Not that I...well you see...Crap...Wait for me Rachel McAdams!)

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

I assume it's called stalking because the head is not really involved.

Back to the main thread topping.... I can see I'm going to have to visit Gutenberg before I even bother to have an idea (not that I'm having to consciously block any :().
