Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Many thaks for the votes, Boneman, Mouse, SJAB, Taly and TEIN. Very much appreciated! And thanks also to everyone who mentioned my little story!

I'm one of those who hasn't yet voted, but I promise I'll do so!

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Well, that's my votes in!!

I had a list which I could have added every story to but this was my cut list:

Perpetual Man
Aun Doorback
Starbeast
Platty
TDZ
Hillarious Joke
Boneman
Harebrain
Gary Compton
The Judge
Cul

In bold are the guys I voted for, I think Mr Compton got me more than any other this tme round! Well done to you and all the stories were very good!

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Another last minute vote? Many, many thanks Allanon, been a bad start to the day (nothing serious just a bad start) but that has put a smile on my face!

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

You're welcome PM and if you have anything you want to vent for you can always msg me and I can be used as a sounding board. Stay happy buddy!

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

I could add everyone to the short list, so there will not be one. Here's who I voted for:

Mosaix' story has been lodged in my mind since the first time I read it, so I always knew I'd vote for it - which I did.

TDZ's story was of the same calibre, an epic tale in less than (or exactly? I didn't count.) 300 words.

Gary Compton's story really tickled my fancy - who knew that is what happened? I would definitely read more.

All in all, I could have used about ten more votes. Or twenty.

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Thanks for the mention, Allanon, and for the vote, Chel!

TDZ's story was of the same calibre, an epic tale in less than (or exactly? I didn't count.) 300 words.

I think I came in at 299 for this one. I'm actually leaving a tiny bit of leeway for the 300s, just in case. :)

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

I know I'm squeezing it pretty tight here, but here are my shortlisted candidates:

Perpetual Man - Oops. Don't most great events start with an accident? I like to think so.
Starbeast - The Late Great Professor's Last Contribution. Ah yes. I love a good tale of retribution.
Paranoid Marvin - The Sands of Time. I like the twist of the aliens being humans. A nice play on expectations.
TheDustyZebra - Honor the Charge. Touching.
mosaix - Anyway, I Think This Is What Happened…. Quite different from most of the stories, which were invariably rather serious.
Thufir - No Fields Left. I had mentioned this before, but I'll say it again. I don't normally like rhyming stories, but this one appealed to me for some reason.

Final three then are:

TheDustyZebra - Honor the Charge
mosaix - Anyway, I Think This Is What Happened…
Thufir - No Fields Left

And to them go my votes. A preemptive congrats to The Judge on the victory. And also a hearty thanks to MstrTal, Highlander and nixie for the votes. That's about 5 more than I expected, so I'm very grateful.

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Thanks, Ursa!

Ten minutes before I close the voting, and the tension is amazing! Who will be our winner?

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Sorry, Cul, no last minute flurry.

Our winner is ...

The Judge!!

And unless I am mistaken, this is the first time we've had more voters than votees!

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Well, after bumping along on the bottom with a single vote from TDZ I suddenly pick up four votes on the last day!

Many thanks Chel, Devil's Advocate, Gary and Leisha. :)

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Thanks, DA!

A shocking finish, I must say. I don't make it on all afternoon, and suddenly, BAM! TJ manages to squeak out the win while I'm not looking. I really thought I was going to get 15 more votes at the last minute and pull it out.

Congratulations on a well-deserved victory, TJ!

Darn it, now we have to wait six more weeks.

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Sorry, Cul, no last minute flurry.

I'm not going to pretend that I'm not both shocked and dissappointed, in equal parts. No, wait, I am going to pretend that. Oh well, on to the next challenge!

Congrats, TJ! I'm going to feel like a dullard saying this, in the face of such an overwhelming number of votes, but I think I kind of missed the drive of your story. Everytime I read it (and it was a good many times) I figured I must have been missing an allusion to a myth or story or something I wasn't quite smart enough to grasp. Which I found frustrating in the extreme, because it was well-written (I'd expect nothing less) and so many other people connected with it...

Since the voting is over, you might check this out, Lucifer

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Congrats Your Honor,

A thorough drubbing of the competition if ever there was one. And thanks to TE I learned something Lucifer=Light bearer; I just want to gag.

"The Prince of Darkness grim, we tremble not for him, One little word will fell him."

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Well it was a bit tight toward the end there but TJ managed to hold on for a very well deserved win. Not just an excellent story, but at excellently told story.

I was rather surprised to find that my votes jumped 50% in the closing stages of the voting, which delighted me no end (Can you imagine if that had happened for TJ?) So a thanks to Teresa, Gary and Anne for those giving me a respectable 6 votes!

Re: Discussion 300 Word Challenge #2

Congratulations, TJ! and it was really exciting to see the tremendous uncertainty for um second place.

I am so delighted to have received my 5 votes (and the mentions!). Thank you so much Mouse, HareBrain, southron sword, Highlander and brev. I love you all :)
